Bleah.

It's been a long time since I've seen Dirk that lethargic and almost uninterested. He was horrendous on D. That usually mean something is bothering him physically. Somewhat disconcerting.

Dirk still has two hands so that should be considered a positive.

That's what I was thinking (and that the Cavs are a nice to have as an opponent when you need to introduce a new starter). I just didn't think this game deserved a fully expressed thought.

Peja looked pretty good, just a little rusty.

Dirk didn't look interested, but i think it was just the cavs. he was moving pretty well.

Mahinmi is a Chandler starter kit. He's good. Later Haywood.

Overall, a win is a win. Only reason it was close was because Dirk wasn't into it. That won't happen against most teams not named the Cavs.

The Cavs looked so lost on that last possession.

This win was too close but I'll take it.

I feel bad Antawn Jamison the most...he shouldn't have to go threw that but that's how the NBA goes.

LOL at Hollins not being able to go a game without trying to take Mavs player out.

BTW, I'm really growing tired of the NBA's penchant for awarding flagrant fouls based on the results rather than the foul itself. The fact that Haywood's foul on Griffin was a flagrant but what Hollins did tonight wasn't is complete horse doo doo.

He wrapped both arms around Tyson's neck and pulled him backwards.

Uggg.

This tidbit from BG's tweet sounds encouraging.

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/0...-cavs-in-loss/

Quote:
DALLAS – The Cavaliers had a puncher’s chance to end their record losing streak Monday night in Dallas, but it didn’t land. Just as an apparent blow from Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki didn’t connect with Cleveland guard Ramon Sessions late in the fourth quarter.

The problem, at least from the Cleveland side, is that neither of the three referees caught Nowitzki in the alleged act. With the Cavs trying to mount a late comeback, Sessions drove into Nowitzki’s body, apparently irritating the 7-foot All-Star. Replays showed Nowitzki reacting with an awkward punching motion and closed fist.

The punch didn’t land, but that didn’t stop the Cleveland coaching staff from getting on the officials. Nowitzki was called for a foul with the Mavs up 97-87 with 2:35 left. Sessions hit both free throws to cut the lead to eight.

Had the officials called Nowitzki for throwing a punch, he would have been ejected, two technical free throws would have been shot and Cleveland would have kept the ball. That potentially could have cut into the lead even more. The play wasn’t reviewed.

“You saw it, looked like a punch to me,” Sessions told NBA.com. “I never had any history with Dirk, but it was a punch. I don’t know what it was about, but it was a punch.”

Sessions said he didn’t see it coming.

“Real surprised after I saw the replay,” he said. “If I would have stayed there, he would have hit me. You can’t see it all, but I saw it on the replay. It’s behind us now, but it was a punch. It is what it is.”

The Cavs would end up losing their record-setting 25th in a row, 99-96. Nowitzki brushed aside the incident when asked.

“A punch? No, it was nothing,” Nowitzki said after Dallas’ ninth straight win.

Well, he’s not about to ask for a suspension.

Knowing the NBA, they will probably at least review the video of this incident.

I hope he doesn't get suspended.

I thought it was something resembling a punch and wouldn't be shocked if he's punished accordingly.

Dirk on the injury
“Just got caught the wrong way there. I was boxing our and somebody got pushed, and I just got caught in the air at the wrong angle. I took some X-rays, they were negative. So, it will be better from day to day.”

Does anyone have video of the alleged punch? Didn't catch much of the game and that just doesn't sound very Dirk-like at all...

They're playing the kings next. I wouldn't mind them taking a chance losing that game (doubtful) instead of taking a chance with Dirk. The added rest is a plus, too.

don't be so quick to write off the kings, they've been playing some tough basketball the last couple weeks. we barely even beat them the first time with our roster at full strength

His knee was day to day also and that ended up being 3 weeks. Even that was rushed.

It wasn't even close to a punch. For one thing his hand was open and for another he wasn't even really facing Sessions... and Sessions was doing just about as much as Dirk was.

At worst it was a mutual shove.

Pretty pathetic bunch of whining for the Cavs. Sessions was at least as much at fault for what happened as Dirk, and again, it wasn't even close to a punch in any way.

Here's a question: Would the Mavs have won this game if Haywood had played instead of Mahimi?

I don't see how. There's no way Haywood puts up 11/8. He's pretty consistently down for 3/2. Haywood does 10/8 once a month.

Really hope this means Carlisle is done waiting on him. Mahimi ain't perfect but he's a good backup, better than Haywood at least.

Really liked seeing Mahimi at the 4 also... and he looked pretty good there. If Dirk is day to day, hopefully he'll get more minutes there.

The Cavs were beasting in the paint all game long, even with Chandler in there. You could substitute defense for offense, and I think the results would have the same.

I rather see Ian as the primary backup 4 with Ty and Brendan the centers.

That Hollins guy is a jackass. He could easily have injured Chandler with his over the back take down. I think it really disrupted Chandler that the NBA would have players that are out to injure others. Same thing happened to Dirk. The Cavs are such poor losers.

If Dirk gets suspended the NBA should do the same with Hollins. Grabbing his arms around Chandlers neck and taking him down (and simulatneously choking) is not worth a flagrant? Well, likely if any of these two gets a suspension it's gonna be Dirk, because he is Mav... *cough* NBA * cough*

Hollins was just showing his intensity and emotion (like KG does) and being so passionate and kinda stupid they cannot control themselves. The NBA figures that dirk is an intelligent person and can control himself ...ergo the suspension.

How about Hollins (7'0") losing that jump ball to Terry (6'2")?

Pathetic. They should be looping that on Sports Center as punishment for the way he tackled Chandler.

Did you notice how much jockeying went on before that tip? Hollins kept sticking his elbow in Jet's face...the ref had to keep making him stick it back behind the line. The ref may have turned to his coach to tell hollins to do it because he sort of wouldn't? At least it looked like he turned around and talked to someone before hollins would stick that elbow back in.

Haywood doesn't play much more defense than he does offense. And you'd be giving up more than just Mahimi's points, you'd be giving up at least 5 or 6 critical rebounds too.... because Haywood doesn't go get them.
