The Charlotte Bobcats and Phoenix Suns have nearly completed a deal in which the Bobcats would take center Jahidi White in the upcoming expansion draft. In return, the Suns would send the Bobcats a future first-round pick and cash, according to the Charlotte Observer. White stands to earn around $5.9 million for the 2004-05 season. The Suns can pay the Bobcats up to $3 million.

These deals are typical of the expansion draft, as Charlotte acts as a dumping ground for unwanted contracts. The Suns need to free up money to go after Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Tracy McGrady, Mehmet Okur, and other notable, available players. The Bobcats normally wouldn't take on White rather large salary, but he does not pose a long-term cap risk while returning the pick and cash. White could probably play decent minutes for the expansion club next season, but we wouldn't expect him to have a fantasy role in anything but the largest leagues.
