James is very impressive. He moves well laterally, plays with great intensity and he actually has a few low-post moves.

As far as basketball goes though, that Artest comp is very appropriate, IMO. Kid seems to be cut from the same cloth as far as physique and playing style goes. It would be a great goal for him to aspire to as a player.

Sorry BG. Don't buy it. I just don't think he wanted to eat some Crow tonight.
Either that or he was scared. And every one knows Fear does not exist in this DoJo.

He missed the game before this game as well, so don't think that reasoning holds haha.

Dojo's release seems a bit better, but he's still doing the damn foot-clap when he shoots. You don't need to click your heels, Dorothy.

He's a very streaky long range shooter, i'm sure he'll only take them when he's wide open with the big boys, but his mid range game should translate nicely, and of course, he can improve from deep as well. A very interesting player, as UD (?) said, not all-world potential, but a very solid player with a high floor.

If Dojo ever makes a 19 ft turnaround fadeaway jumper in an actual NBA game...
Sucks that Cunningham is out.

I hope like hell Dojo can keep this style of play up in the season. Obviously he won't keep the same stat lines but just hitting the J much more consistently, and finishing at and around the rim. He has already been good at finding open guys and playmaking.
Crowder is a mini-bamf at this point. I have zero question he will get minutes and put them to use.
James looks confident, mature, and honestly ready to contribute some as well.

The main issue for Dojo is getting minutes. The team is stock full of combo guards, and he seems to be at the bottom of the list for playing time.

Crowder just got the first contract of our draftees, even beating out Jared "GP" Cunningham. Im not in the slightest bit surprised after seeing Crowder play and work his way seamlessly into every game situation he's put himself into.
Interested to see if James makes it. He doesnt have the size but he's shown a lot of maturity and skill. He's got good timing for blocks, rebounds hard and has some decent post moves. I'd really like to see him on the roster.
And Cunningham is just a mystery. It's just unfortunate that we can't see "Gary Payton pt 2" in action.

Isn't Cunningham under contract because he is a first rounder?

Not necessarily. As I understand it, his contract amount (963k) counts against our cap as a hold but we simply have his rights and a rookie exception to spend over the cap to sign him between now and draft day 2013.
Of course, he isnt going back to college and he isnt finishing a euro contract so he'll be on the roster next season but he hasn't formally inked his deal yet.
I just thought it was interesting that Crowder was the first one to sign a deal when Cunningham was the first rounder guaranteed a spot.

Not sure about the exact timing of the contractual guarantees for first round picks, but unless something has changed under the new CBA, once you sign a first rounder he can't be traded (until mid-Dec., I think). My guess is that the fact that Jared hasn't been signed yet is probably an indication that the Mavs haven't completely exhausted all their summer trade options yet.
And if that's reasonable, then I also wonder if their having signed Jae first may have in part been a response to teams that they were negotiating with asking for him as a throw-in (which isn't to diminish what he's done to earn his contract or the interest of other teams).

Can't be traded after 30 days after signing as a draft pick.

Is that, can't be traded until after 30 days after signing? That's less constraining than I thought. Though still potentially a major inconvenience.

Bernard with some speed on the fast break, 2 made shots in a row. Nice pass from Dojo to set him up.

Know this has been said before, but have to love the surprising range that Jae is showing on top of the really nice defensive and intangible skill set he has.

He better be working with the free throw coach big time. He can't shoot worse than Haywood out there.

For a guy his size, his footwork is remarkable. His recognition as a defender seems very good. He also works well off the ball, especially on the baseline. I haven't seen too many players with tree trunks for arms shoot so fluidly and with such a quick release before. He's just a truly unique talent. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with a real NBA lineup. He will likely be operating 1-on-1 due to having multiple proven threats sharing the floor with him. He is also showing things that I didn't know he had, like a pretty nice ability to initiate contact with his shoulder in the mid-post and fade away over either shoulder with accuracy.
I'm very pleased with what I have seen thus far. He is an easy guy to root for; he works his ass off, he's smart, he seems to be coachable, and he can do a bit of everything. He has "fan favorite" written all over him.

Cant believe I am saying this but Mavs are out of whack offensively and need Dojo back in to settle them down.

Word. You said it much better than I could. Physically the man has not just an NBA body but an NFL body and knows how to use it to his advantage. Fear the dreads! or maybe dread the dreads!

Im guessing Dojo is done for the day? He didnt start the 2nd half after what looks to be a back issue, maybe spasms?, he was nursing in the 1st half.

back tightness that didnt go away when he came back in for a stretch. Probably minor and only because its the last game of the SL.
