From my perspective, if I were Dolan, I'd have made Fizdale stay through the year, earn his contract, and be miserable in the process. Now they have a total interim placeholder, until they can reorganize management, and let the next GM make his own coaching hire.

I actually think that Dolan forced Mills/Perry to dismiss their hire as a message to THEM that he's not convinced of their plan, and that further changes are forthcoming. Perry will be next, and Mills, by virtue of his pathologically close relation to Dolan, will likely be 'promoted' to a position in management where he can do less damage.

Supposedly, the Donnie Walsh hiring was made at the behest of David Stern, in the wake of the Anucha Brown-Sanders settlement. Walsh was supposed to enjoy significant autonomy, which lasted until the ill-fated roster-gutting to acquire Carmelo Anthony, who would've been available in the off season without having to give up Gallinari et al.

Similarly, Jackson, hired upon Mills' recommendation, was supposed to have even more latitude to operate. He wanted Kerr as his headcoach, but Dolan reportedly wanted to low-ball Kerr on salary, and Kerr had a competing offer from the Warriors. Jackson's fallback, Derek Fischer, was more of a falldown. Jackson compounded the problem by forcing Fischer to implement an outmoded and archaic offensive scheme (without the benefit of Jordan/Pippen or Shaq/Kobe).

Dolan then reportedly forced Jackson into the re-signing of Anthony, tying up their cap, when the only smart thing to do would've been to let him walk, and look for a better player in FA.

Jackson did manage to make two excellent (almost visionary) draft selections (Porzingis, Ntilikina), but then managed to get crossways with Porzingis, who didn't take to Phil's zenphuckery.

Re-enter Mills, who hired the out-of-his-depth Perry, who has recycled a losing re-build philosophy (The Process 2.0), while recycling many of his own draft mistakes from previous losing stints as GM.

For the most part, Dolan appears to've stayed back, and let Mills/Perry make their own mistakes. But Dolan has become so publicly reviled, that he's looking to hold somewhat acccountable, to deflect blame, and hopefully some of the criticism. As deserved as it was, that's what the Fizdale firing was about.

So fire Perry too, and get rid of Mills, and yes you're still stuck with Dolan. Other than hoping for his early demise, what has caught my attention recently is that the Knicks are said to be currently under-valued by about 30%, with current investors' attempts to acquire a large stake rebuffed by Dolan. Still, when you can frame the problem by quanitifying it in billions of dollars, perhaps Dolan will tire of dealing with the headaches of public enmity, and make a deal that can make him feel like a success as a businessman.
So in short, Dolan is an ass clown, and the Knicks are a dumpster fire.

He may be a terrible sports owner, but hey, on the other hand, he's the world's finest musician and stage performer. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, JD and the Straight Shot.

He's in a state of arrested development, desperate for paternal approval, which will never be forthcoming. Imagine being given a multi-billion dollar asset NOT because you're capable of managing it, but to keep you occupied, and get you out of dad's hair because you're a colossally annoying eff-up. That's gotta be some psyche-shredding pressure.

I've seen him compared here to Sterling, but the specifics of the Knicks problems are totally unrelated to the shortcomings of Sterling. Sterling was a notorious cheapskate, who would not pay to keep actual talent. Dolan overpays everybody, talented or not.

Sterling was a notorious racist, while Dolan cultivates relationships with African-American execs to show how he's one of the guys.

Sterling's dementia (along with a hoochera and a recording device) did him in. Dolan, unfortunately, is a younger man whose paranoia serves him better than Sterling's libido did him.

Watching Morant....damn it sucks so much that we lost the stupid 3-way-coinflip in the past lottery. That was the easiest path to get the third "star"

I'm confused. The only pick we had in 2019 was the 10th pick which went to Atlanta, because of the Doncic trade (trading 2018 5th and 2019 10th for 2018 3rd)

Morant went 2nd. Don't think there is any way we could have secured him.

I do really like him, though. That dunk was ferocious and he has a pretty level head for someone only 20 years old. Honestly think he could be the best player in that 2019 draft and could even join the 50-40-90 club.

We were tied with Pelicans and Grizzlies. NBA did a 3-way-coinflip to determine the order between these three teams. We "lost" and ended up up with the lottery balls for the #10 spot. Pelicans and Grizzlies got the balls for #8 and #9. Pelicans and grizzlies got one of their balls (aka combination) drawn at #1 and #2.

So basically we had a 66% chance to end up with Zion or Morant....blargh

That's not really how it works. For the first round, all combinations are put into a pot and then divided by the number of tied teams and distributed as equally as possible. In the first round, a coinflip can only ever affect the results by 0.01% (1 combination out of 1,000). In the case of the 2019 draft, the coin flip had no effect on the first round whatsoever because the combinations divided evenly.

7th - 75 combinations
8th - 60 combinations
9th - 45 combinations
-----------------
180 combinations total so each team got 60 combinations for the first round.

New Orleans - 60 combinations (hit the jackpot and drafted #1)
Dallas - 60 combinations (no such luck and drafted 10th so it went to the Hawks)
Memphis - 60 combinations (hit the jackpot and drafted #2)

We all had equal odds. Memphis and New Orleans just got really lucky. You can argue that it would have been good to tank harder for better odds and I'd agree, but the coin flip had actually zero effect on the results of the 2019 draft. Two of the three teams we had the same odds as just got super lucky.

Easily the leagues best team if they all stay healthy. I’m not sure the Bucks can score enough in the playoffs to keep up. Lakers supporting cast is garbage aside from Green.

I think you are exactly right - health is key- Kawhi - leg problems, PG - past shoulder issues.
Clippers depth is real key to that team - AND OUR MAVS!!!
And Lakers - bench is really bad... and outside of Green very poor 3pt shooters.

I'm not sure why people think the Lakers' supporting cast is bad. Maybe you've only watched the two Mavs games? I'm pretty confident that I've probably watched them more than anyone else on this forum- I watch almost every game. Caruso, Caldwell-Pope, McGgee, Howard, and the even the infamous Rajon Rondo are all solid role-players who've done really well. Rondo has actually developed a respectable outside shot too. The Lakers have been a well-oiled machine, and it's not just Lebron and AD. And the weird thing is, the guys who should be their two best supporting players- Kuzma and Bradley- have been underperforming. So as good as the Lakers have been so far, they still have clear room for improvement, which is scary to think about.

I still think the Clippers at full strength are the better team, but the idea that the Lakers are a shallow team with only Lebron and AD next to a bunch of scrubs is a misconception.

I see where you are coming from and I too watch a ton of NBA games.
The Lakers bench is rated #21 (Mavs #7) (and rockets at dead last!!!) http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball...s/19/7/diffeff
and the Lakers 3 point attempts are near the bottom as well at #24 (btw - look at the teams below them) not sure they can put up the points needed in a playoff series.

It's a fair point, and I certainly don't mean to suggest that the Lakers' bench is great, or even particularly good. When people say "supporting cast" I take that to mean their starters outside of Lebron and AD as well. My only point is that their team as a whole plays really well together. They do need more reliable shooting and they need a quality scorer off the bench. That's where Kuzma and Bradley have been missing. Kuzma is supposed to be their quality sixth man, but either he hasn't figured that role out or he just doesn't fit there. And Bradley is supposed to be a very reliable 3pt shooter, but this year he's shooting a putrid .235. If and when those two guys start playing to their potential, the Lakers could destroy anything in their path. If not, look for the Lakers to start shopping Kuzma around.

The Clippers definitely have more depth, but that says more about how really freaking good the Clippers' roster is than about how bad the Lakers' roster is. The Clippers have pretty easily the deepest roster in the league. The Celtics are probably the only real comparison.

Lakers, Rockets & Nuggets lose - and all are ahead of us in the standings.

Amazing how many people have talked trash about Dennis Schroeder, and yet he is killing it this year. Love to have him as a backup.

Obligatory reminder that we passed on him, as well as some other pretty good players, to take Shane Larkin 😊

Seriously though, I’m so glad we have Luka wouldn’t trade him for anything. And who knows if we don’t take Larkin maybe we never have Luka. Likely we don’t.

How Knicks interim coach is making David Fizdale defenders look bad

Fizdale well and truly stunk.

Streaking: Knicks on a 3-game win streak, 6-4 over their last 10, after Sunday's 24-point win (117-93) over the fading Blazers.

Ntilikina was a catalyst in relief of Elfrid Payton, with 9 pts and 10 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks, 0 turnovers.

Mitchell Robinson had 22 points in 27 minutes, on 11 for 11 shooting, including 5 assisted alley-oops from Ntilikina (who was the 8th pick in the 2017 draft).

Defensively, Ntilikina helped to stifle the Blazers' backcourt duo of Lilliard and McCollum, harrassing them into a combined 11 of 36 (4 of 15 from 3; Lillard was 1 of 8).

In other news, Carmelo Anthony had 0 assists in 31 minutes for the Blazers.

Frank had a very good game, was fluid when I was watching.

He was very good. Been playing like this for awhile, but yesterday was basically a bigger dose.

Frank Ntilikina Highlights 1/1/2020 v. Blazers

P.S.: To Whom It May Concern: The announcers are saying "Bullock" not "Bullet". Reggie Bullock's debut as a NYK was yesterday. The other guy didn't dress for the game.

Hate both. Have never forgotten Perkins blatantly diving at Shawn Marion's knee. Perkins was a dirty talentless p.o.s. who never really wanted to fight.

Durant = Cupcake

Not a fan of Perkins either, but he’s fully aware he was just a hired goon. I doubt his feelings were actually hurt here.

@tiagosplitter: How crazy is this? I used to have a poster of Vince Carter in my room... then I played against him... now I coach against him and he is still playing!

Kinda sad that Dirk isn't active or he'd be another player to play in four decades

WTF, Minnesota basically just gives Jeff Teague to the Hawks for Allen f'in Crabbe? Amazing how little value your roster has when you're bad.

That is odd. Teague is still a good player. Could be about the best backup point guard in the league for them. If you're not counting FVV.
