@Mike_Schmitz: Mo Bamba was dominant against Kansas: 22 PTS, 15 REBS & 8 BLKs. He's averaging 19.5 PTS, 13 REBS & 7.0 BLKs in 31.5 MPG over his last two games against Alabama & KU. Top-3 prospect to me. "There are things that I do differently that no one else can do."

My End of 2017 Draft Wish List

1) DeAndre Ayton (Karl Anthony-Towns with a better frame)

2) Marvin Bagley (Lamar Odom) - still not sold on him; lack of range and tweener game is worrisome, but can't deny what he's doing in college

3) Michael Porter (KD with less length) - if Mavs doctors clear his injury, he has the most natural, varied offensive game in this draft

4) Mohamed Bamba (Rudy Gobert with range) - will need to get his weight up and continue to develop offensively as Gobert did, but possesses the same defense changing length that allows perimeter defenders to be aggressive

5) Mikal Bridges (better Trevor Ariza) - unselfish, skilled, long, fantastic defender, and lights out from deep; one of the safest players in the draft, but still full of potential despite being a Junior

*Missed the Cut*

6) Luka Doncic (Danilo Gallinari) - seems to possess better handles/ skill than Gallinari, but without Gallinari's size and length... has same questions as Trae Young

7) Trae Young (Isaiah Thomas) - this low not only because DSJ is on the roster, but also because I'm not sold he has the length/ physical makeup to continue tearing up teams in the NBA offensively, while a liability on defense

Dude, thats nuts. Mikal is 22y old when the seaons starts. Doncic is almost three years younger and has allready more experience on every level. No GM is going to take Mikal over Doncic.

Yea I'd have Miles Bridges over Mikal. This top 10 is setting up to be LOADED.

Bamba played fantastic, and that UT team can be dangerous once Andrew Jones gets back full speed. Their weakness has been shooting so far.

I honestly think we will get a franchise piece as long as we stay top 8-10. Win much more than that and you start getting thin on the upper tier guys.

I completely understand. Just my "hot" take. I think Mikal Bridges plays both ends of the floor while shooting just as well as Doncic. He's probably the best perimeter defender in the draft. Obviously Doncic is better with the ball in his hands, but I'm not convinced he has the physical upside to compete on the NBA perimeter the same way he currently does. Mikal Bridges could be next year's Donovan Mitchell.

@MavsDraft: Fun fact: Marvin Bagley III's FG% at the rim (where over half his shots are taken) is 81%. That's mindblowing. Might be the best finisher at the rim in the country

@MavsDraft: Ayton is even higher at 87% on 43% of his FGA at the rim, and Bamba is at 75% on 48% FGA at the rim, while Jaren Jackson JR is only 60% at the rim

Mock Update

http://www.nbadraft.net/2018mock_draft

Ayton
Trae
Bagley
Porter
Bamba
Doncic

Well, Trae trending really up is for sure helping us because it means even with "just" the 6th pick we would be one of the "winner" in the draft.

But i really do wonder which lottery team would take a potential BPA Trae over a much better positional fit. I just see the Bulls and Suns with a strong need at PG over other positions in the roster

Hawks: Schröder
Celtics/Sixers (Lakers Pick): Irving and Fultz/Simmons
Magic: Payton
Grizzlies: Conley
Kings: Fox
Bobcats: Kemba

Trae Young would be an instant improvement over all listed except Conley, IMO. Problem is that Bagley and Ayton and even Porter represent huge upside at other positions that may create a need-lean for one of those teams, too.

I think you’re seriously underrating Kemba Walker. But yeah, a lot of those except Orlando might stand pat at guard and go for a similarly rated big or wing

I also forgot to mention Irving, but that's obvious.

I can agree that I may be underrating Kemba - I just think Young will eventually be better. But yea, Hornets probably have greater needs that can similarly be addressed depending on their finish in the standings.

Luka Doncic and Trae Young Are Changing the Top-Prospect Archetype
https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/1...rry-generation

Quote:
Doncic and Young aren’t typical phenoms dominating their competition by being bigger and faster than their peers. They are average athletes who have made themselves indefensible by taking 3s at rates that would have been unheard of even a few years ago. They are part of the first generation of players to grow up watching Steph Curry, and they are taking the blueprint he provided in different directions. What the teams at the top of the draft have to figure out is whether Curry and his influence are turning points in draft evaluation, or if Curry himself is closer to the exception that proves the rule.

The fact that the NBA needs centers that shoot threes these days speaks for itself. Curry and the Warriors changed the landscape almost completely by themselves.

This is a pretty suspect list (Bamba over Ayton? Young to Sacto when they just drafted Fox?), but I'd love it if Dallas landed Porter.

Yeah, that pick they got from the Lakers just keeps getting better as the season goes on... At this point the only upside to LA winning any games is if they end up outside the top-6, then the pick reverts back to Philly (same thing happens if they end up with the #1 pick). But the odds of LA finishing in the 2-5 range are pretty good, depending on the lottery balls.

I think I remember reading that if its outside top 6 they get SAC 2019 unprotected(or Philly's pick, whichever is worse)

Awful news. I had mentioned Jones here before. He had the wrist injury in December and I was wondering what impact he could make upon his return, for his own draft projections, and to see how it would affect Bamba. Jones had been limited the last couple of games and then recently ruled out of their game against TCU. Terrible to hear, hope the young man gets better and can live a healthy life.

I love Bamba. Gobert is a top 20 or so player in the league and Bamba is better at the same age, longer and probably more agile with potential to have a better rounded offensive game- has a good looking stroke and range to college 3--even though he's not hitting at a good percentage. And he's 19 and by all accounts a hard worker, smart and coachable. He's averaging 4.6 blocks in 29.5 minutes! Ayton by comparison 1.6 in more minutes

Ayton looks like young Olajuwon. Except his defensive rating has been bad. And there are reports of him being lazy or at the very least he doesn't love ball. I'm not saying take one over the other but it may be a tougher decision then we'd imagine. What if Ayton is the benign version of Demarcus Cousins- needs the ball to be effective, not a great defender, takes plays off, coasts on talent. And Bamba is the guy that can make any team a perennial top 3-5 defense, always works hard and improves and doesn't need the ball to impact the game?

I don't see any way we can lose as long as we have a pick in the top-7, assuming Porter is healthy. Back injuries are scary.

Don't think Jaren Jackson is a franchise player but may be an all-star type talent at some point. He's like the prototypical big for todays game with 3 point shooting and rim protection. Can guard PF and Centers.

If Trae Young is clearly BPA where we pick then take him and figure it out later. Or trade him for a kings ransom if you think he's more DJ Augustine than Steph Curry. He looks pretty damn good so far though.

It would amazing if we were "forced" to draft Porter and then he recovers 100%. He could easily be the best player in this draft class.

But that's a big "if".

I’m not convinced we’ll go 1-9

@BallinWithBryan:

Dallas’ record last season: 33-49

If we pick #9 again, we pretty much have to pray that Sexton and Knox climb up the boards enough to even have a shot at high-end role players like Jaren Jackson or Miles Bridges...

Mikal Bridges is next year's Donovan Mitchell. I'll keep saying it until we draft him and he turns out to be Maurice Ager.

Trae Young is a Monster.

His Season Stats are now

30.1 PPG / 10 APG / 4,3 RPG / 1,9 SPG
on
46% / 41 % / 83 % Shooting.

This guy is the next Stephen Curry with better Assists. If he doesnt get picked Top 5 i would be higly suprised.

Right now i see the Top 10:

1. Ayton
2. Bagley
3. Young
4. Porter
5. Bamba
6. Doncic
7. Jackson Jr.
8. Sexton
9. Mikal Bridges
10. Knox

Cant do much wrong picking Top 10 this year tough there is a big drop off after the Top 6.

If the Celtics Keep the #2 pick from the Lakers right now they will pick Trae Young. Than they are stacked on every Position basically for Years.

Can u imagine a Roster of

Irving / Rozier
Young / Smart
Hayward / Brown
Tatum / Morris
Horford / Baynes

+ Open Free Agency omg

Celtics would pick Big with the Lakers pick. Ayton or Bamba. Brown is too good for the bench and Horford is going to be 32.

Irving
Brown
Hayward
Tatum
Ayton/Bamba

Thats like the perfect mix. And they still have Horford for two years.

Honestly it should be illegal the kind of talent that the Celtics are going to be able to assemble. It’s absurd. I mean I’m happy for them, but their fleecing of other teams is now legendary and teams are terrified of being another one of those teams that got fleeced the way the Celtics fleeced ther opponents.

Well, it was pretty much all based on Billy King being the typical retard.

Then you got the talent and assets and then the FA are coming to you

I wasn't sure where to put this, but ...

Given the rules changes regarding draft position next year, what are your thoughts on how hard teams will play vs tank? I'm really interested in watching how many "bad teams" start competing instead of writing off a season in order to help secure a franchise altering draft pick. The Mavs for instance could truly be competing for 8th spot in the playoffs vs being 1.5 games out of last place in the West.

I agree that teams will be trying a little harder next season with the rule change, which is why tanking is so crucial THIS season... If we don't end up with a top-5 pick this summer, then I see prolonged mediocrity for several years without a legit chance to rebuild.
