@WojYahooNBA: Free agent center Sam Dalembert has reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Posted this in the other thread, but it bears repeating... For those of you worried about Dalembert's attitude:
@SkinWade: Heard that after Dalembert was released by NY, spurned offers to finish season w/ others so that he could train and "work" way back to Mavs.
@SkinWade: (Cont) really wanted to get back here and knew he'd have to prove his worth to team. Was driven to do that. That's a positive, hope it works

Not exactly exciting, but if you look at the numbers Sammy D is probably the best of what is left. The past three years he has blocked over one shot per game @< 20 min per. Averages around 6 rebounds per game. He knows Carlisle and the Mavs system. If he can stay awake and focus he will be a solid, yet uninspiring addition.

Sam can play. I know I will get bashed for this but if RC treats him like an adult and doesn't play head games with Sam he can be a decent center. RC screwed with him last time. Let's hope they learned to live together.

I´m fine with this signing. Good to have a solid and veteran option next to Zaza. But, man, we do need a big guy, who can lift his feet from the floor. And Tyler doesn´t count.

Figuratively yes. RC wears on some players. He can't play head games with everyone. Players and coaches can learn to work together. Sam would not be back without RC's blessing. I suspect that there was a meeting of the minds before an offer was made and accepted.

Would like to get rc take on this...I'm sure he is thrilled.
Best of what's left yet it's still depressing because he was signed last time to keep the powder dry. Yet we both still need each other.

I know that Samuel Dalembert is not on the same level as Tyson Chandler by any means, but we could have done a lot worse. I'm happy to have Sammy back. We can always use another good veteran big body. I wonder what the opening day roster will be like. I finally feel like the team can actually compete for a playoff spot. Mavs are lucky that Portland fell apart so rapidly, leaving a clear division winner in OKC. The only question really is can Dallas outplay Phoenix this year?

Sam is a talented kid who just doesn't have the maturity or fire in his belly. He's not a bad stopgap for this stopgap season

Even though he is a re-tread and unexciting, I actually think Dalembert is a pretty solid addition for this team. He's certainly the best center available right now.
I also would not be overly surprised if Dalembert starts and Zaza comes off the bench. It seems like Sam has been better as a starter, and Zaza has been better as a bench guy.

Totally agree, although I could see Zaza as more of a closer.

I think Dirk needs Sam to start. I think that's a good pairing. I'd prefer if we only had one "grounded" big on the floor at a time just to balance it out. Powell can run with Zaza.

I agree...not exciting but solid. At least we have 2 centers who belong in the NBA.

If he is Sammy from 2 years ago this is awesome for the min. Maybe the triangle just put him off and he was disinterested and a poor fit. His per 36 rebounds were pretty close to where they always have been. We kinda need rebounding in the worst of ways.

Well, Dalembert/Zaza is about as good as we could have done after Jordan strung us along until the FA market dried up... I was hoping we could trade for a quality center before the season began, but there's still plenty of opportunity before the trade deadline in February. We should at least have some assets with all these young guys battling it out in training camp.

I'd rather have Dalembert/Zaza than Roy Hibbert...so there is that.

Actually, Dalembert was playing pretty well in the second half of his season here. If he can revert back to that level, he will be a great pick up. He fits the mold of players the Mavs have had good success with---veteran players looking for an uptick in their career. We'll see. Even if not...little harm done.

Look at who Dalembert is doing quite well against in this highlight video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AFnIEsJvYI
If he has just one game like that against you know who this season, then the contract will have been worth it.

Zaza and Sam will be a good tandem. I also think Sam starts and Zaza is the enforcer off the bench. They will probably split the minutes equally though.

I might agree, but Dalembert did better off the bench in his previous stint here. But that was probably as much an attitude adjustment as anything else.

Zaza is a career backup, so Dalembert will probably be a better fit as the starter.

Pretty early to pencil in McGee as a starter when he only averaged 10pts, 7.7 reb per 36. Any center worth his salt can gobble up 10-13 rebounds per 36 and we'll be leaning on our center to put up big rebounding numbers next to Dirk and Parsons.
Rebounds per 36
11.1 - Dally
10.4 - Zaza
7.7 McGee
Rebound rating
32.2 Dalembert (20th among centers)
30.6 Pachulia (28th among centers)
22.7 McGee (lowwwwww)
I think people remember his stats from a few years ago and remember when he was crazy but worth the risk, because his potential was sky high. Since then, he's actually gotten worse rather than better.
