Default Nelson on with Norm this morning at 10:10

On the Ticket this morning at 10:10AM CST, Nelson will be on with Norm. The Musers are asking Norm to ask Nelson why Dirk didn't get the shot last night (instead of Finley).

Don't miss it! To listen on the Internet, click here.

Q: Why go to Finley in that situation when he was cold?

A: Who else was I going to go to? Nowitzki had the ball in his hands and was an integral part of the play. He gave it up which was a good option.

Norm said to Nellie that he would be questioned why Finley got the ball when he was having a bad game. His response was "Who was having a good game?", he pointed out that Dirk "chose" to defer to Finley on the shot... or something to that effect.

Dirk CHOSE to defer? I watched the play. That's NOT what happened. It was drawn up for the ball to be given back to Finley. What a cop-out.

How serious is the injury to Jamison? Nelson said he didn't have a clue.

wow, Don Nelson is an idiot. and he's just coverin his a$$ here once again.

he told Norm that the play was drawn for Finley and then inferred later that Dirk could have taken that shot but chose to defer to Fin. so which is it? was the play drawn for fin or was it drawn for dirk?

nelson is getting old and so are his antics.

Najera seemed to bother Webber, and throw him off his game. Will that be used in Game 3? "Yeah, as long as he plays well".

Well, of course, the play was drawn up for Finley. If he just sends the guys out there and lets them choose, why do we have a coach?

Not only was this play drawn up especially for Finley but we've seen Nellie run this EXACT play in the last seconds of similar games.

Poor excuse by Nelson...im getting sick of this cra*p

Calling Nellie out on not getting Dirk the ball in the second half.

Nellie: There are periods of time where you have to go to other players. Only Chamberlain scored 100 points. Can't have one guy touch the ball every time down the floor. Other guys have to step up and deliver...

What a load of crap.

Reality is, however, that they don't even MAKE a Depends™ adult undergarment big enough to cover Nellie's lard a$$, let alone contain all the $hit he's oozing.

Why can't your best player touch the ball every time down the court in the last 4 or 5 minutes? Why run the pick and roll with Najera instead of Dirk? I wish I could interview Nellie.

He said the only thing he second guessed himself on was an inbounds play where he should have called a zone instead of a man to man.

Would it be unprecedented to go ahead and fire him before the playoffs are over? Yeah, probably, but it might be justified with his ass covering bullshit.

Its not hard to understand that if a player is hot then the other team will exert more effort and give more attention to trying to slow that

player down which in turn will open other players up for good looks at the basket. I understand it is highly unlikely that Dirk will score 100

points for us; however, the only way we will get other players involved is by making Dirk the focal point of our offense through running

more plays that are designed for Dirk to shoot. Instead of trying to force other players to get involved in the scoring, make the other team

work to stop Dirk by double teams and allow our other players to flow in with the game naturally through being open when their man

leaves them to help out.

Well, I'm officially on the 'fire Nellie' bandwagon now; this crap is totally ridiculous. I really know nothing about basketball, but common freaking sense tells you to use your best player to get the best results... Could you have imagined Phil Jackson saying this comment about Jordan??

Oh, and by the way, of course he isn't going to score 100 points, smartass, but Dirk's capable of scoring 35+ on a nightly basis if you'd freaking let him. That sounds pretty good to me, personally.

Nellie is pathetic. Using the old book (who, by the way, never has showed that has worked well in challenging moments, in playoffs) sacrificing your best player, "sharing the wealth", when he is hot and eager to beat them, is the most cheap thing for a professional coach.

This is what Nellie said in the Dallas Morning News:

Quote:
Finley's final shot was the capper on another off night offensively for him (4-of-12). Coach Don Nelson said it was fair to question the wisdom of trying to give the last shot to Finley.

"It just didn't work out," Nelson said. "You might question going to Finley, but he's been really good on that play for us this season."
What I want to know is when that play has worked in the final minute of a game? Has it ever worked? All I remember is failure after failure. It always ends with a turnover or he is trying to hit a fadeaway over a double team.

This just makes me sick.

I wish there were a way for Nellie to go out, preserving his dignity, preserivng his legacy as a significant figure in NBA history, preserving his contribution to rebuiling the Mavericks.

But then he goes and despoils it all with pathetic crap like this.

C'mon, Donnie!....He's your DAD. Stop him from embarassing himself.

You would think that a coach could seperate "this season" from "this game". Good grief. It's not like fin is mike jordan for goodness sakes. And it's also not like finley was going to drive to the hole. ALL we needed was 2 points. I'd much rather see a stevie off-balance hope like heck it goes in circus-shot than suffering through watching mike try to break someone down off the dribble.

Has a headcoach ever been fired during a playoff series? This would be a good opportunity right now.

LOL....it would generate enough publicity that I think Cuban has to be considering the possibility at least.

What a disgrace. Dirk "chose" to hand it off? If you want Dirk to take the last shot then you don't have him 25 feet away from the basket. You have him coming off a screen or pick and pop or you post his ass up.

Dirk didn't even look at the basket, he immediatly passed it to Finley. There is now way that was an option play. I hope Dirk reads that quote.

Nellie has said a couple of different things, I'm guessing. I just heard a clip from him on the ticket where he said the play was for finley.

It was only shown for about a half-second on the UPN21 broadcast, but on the way back down court after Fin lost the ball, you saw a indignant-raised-eyebrows expression from Dirk as he walked back down court.

He didn't like the play that was called, and wasn't surprised when it didn't work. He didn't defer.

But he shoulda been in the huddle calling the shots beforehand.

yeah. an ex post facto raised eyebrow isn't the kind of leadership the mavs need.
He should have said, "Coach, we will win the game if I take the last shot." before the play

Well if we think that unless dirk starts to publicly refuse to run the plays that the coach then he's a failure we'd better trade him now.

I bet Allan Iverson would have done it, let's trade for him. Geezzz.
