The Last Vanguard: Dirk Nowitzki & Shawn Marion
There were twelve players on the Mavericks' active roster when they won the NBA title. Only thirteen months have passed since then (almost to the day), and yet in that short time, almost every single one of those players has moved on.
They may bring back Cardinal on another veteran-minimum deal. But assuming they don't (and even if they do, he was barley a rotation player), there are only two players left from the franchise's first ever championship team:
Dirk Nowitzki
Shawn Marion
That's it. Those two are your lone remnants from the greatest Mavericks team of all time. And it took only one year.
This isn't really an appreciation thread, as both guys are still around. Nor is it a criticism of management for letting other players go--please, please do not turn this thread into that. I just wanted to briefly note how quickly things change. It's incredible.
Here's to seeing more good years from Dirk and Shawn.
