Default Bloomberg

Donald Trump's reaction to speakers at the Democratic National Convention:

Quote:
“You know what I wanted to. I wanted to hit a couple of those speakers so hard,” Trump said. “I would have hit them. No, no. I was going to hit them, I was all set and then I got a call from a highly respected governor. [Chris Christie? Sarah Palin? Tom Keane?]”

“I was gonna hit one guy in particular, a very little guy [Bloomberg],” he said. “I was gonna hit this guy so hard his head would spin and he wouldn’t know what the hell happened.”
Apparently Donald does not like to be reminded of his long record of business failures and unethical-to-dishonest-to-fraudulent treatment of business partners, vendors, and clients; apparently, Donald does not like to have reported that Bloomberg is an actual billionaire, while Trump his not; or have pointed out that his immigration plan for Mexicans and Muslims has about as much chance of success as one of his debt restructuring plans for one of his many bankrupt casinos. I wonder how many buildings in NYC will try to de-brand from Trump's name in the next couple of years.

America, you are not dealing with a mentally stable person in Trump. As Jefferies remarked "Don't be an a$$hole, America."

He refers to so many people as "little people" too as if they're so beneath him.

I don't like Hillary as much as the next person, but come on. You really can't take the risk of a total basket case.

Corruption, ineptitude, bs flip flopping on many issues > maybe the next Hitler

Not voting for either, but I'll still take a typically corrupt politician over God knows what horror any day of the week.

I think calling him "maybe the next Hitler" is just a bit much. I cannot stand the idiot either.. But you're a bit overboard.

True, Hitler was at least competent.

I dunno, Hillary definitely has the skills and connections to bring about that type of tyranny, but Donald is the one running on a xenophobic platform... If only you could combine the two and make the perfect American Hitler!

(maybe I should watch what I wish for, even in jest?)

She's so widely hated... Even here most Democrats that I know saying that they'll only vote for her because she might not be quite as terrible of a candidate as Trump.

Yeah, this is very much an election of voting for who you think the lesser of two evils is... Which is the true sign of a broken democracy.

Default Bad Hair Week

The Weak in Review:

1) Trump gets eviscerated by dead war veteran's father at the Democratic National Convention.

2) Trump responds by insulting the slain soldier's mother, and her religious faith.

3) Trump appeals to Russia to commit cyber-espionage against Hillary Clinton's campaign

4) Trump's denial of having met Putin personally is exposed by videotape of Trump on at least two occasions claiming to have met Putin, "...who could not have been nicer." and deeming the meeting a "tremendous success".

5) Trump's lie about being contacted by the NFL with complaints about the debate schedule is exposed. By the NFL. Which says it never contacted Trump.

6) Trump's post-convention bump evaporates.

All that, and it seems like some things are missing.

7) Oh yeah, Marge and Homer endorse Hillary.

Yeah, it reminds me of when I lived in Austin about a decade or so ago and they mostly-banned smoking from nightclubs (you'd need a really expensive permit to allow it)... It was almost exclusively California transplants who wanted the bill passed, but most Austinites were against it... The bill ended up passing by just a few hundred votes -- only 4% of the population actually showed up to vote on it.

Democracy doesn't work for a lazy/apathetic population, and we're currently living in the laziest, most apathetic nation in the history of democracy (although I'm starting to wonder if that by design...)

It is by design. Issues for our presidential election are abortion (as if that's the end all be all of issues), who can go potty where, how big your penis is, getting rid of immigrants, building a judge dredd wall around our borders, emails, lots of emails apparently, did I mention emails?, emails in the quadrillions, the disappearance of emails, gun massacres, etc.

I mean, why on earth would people be apathetic?

So, Trump just refused to endorse Paul Ryan or John McCain in their respective primaries even though they both (begrudgingly) endorsed him... This comes on the heels of Obama asking them earlier today, "If you are repeatedly having to say what Trump says is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him?"

Then you have lifelong Republicans like Richard Hanna (NY Congressman), Sally Bradshaw (Bush advisor), Maria Comella (top Christie aide) and Meg Whitman (Hewlett-Packard CEO, ran for California Governor in 2010) publicly backing Clinton because Trump is just too loathsome to get behind... The GOP is imploding so hard because of this guy that it's damn-near impossible to shake the idea that Hillary paid him to do it.

It'll be interesting to see what else is leaked concerning Hillary in the next several weeks... Trump continues to prove that he's an unlikable idiot.. He'd be better off just keeping his mouth shut for a bit and let Hillary do her best to sabotage herself for awhile.

That actually seems to be Hillary's strategy right now, and it's working... Trump has foot-in-mouth disease, she's just kicking back and letting him talk his way out of this election.

Also not sure if there's much more to leak on Hillary -- most of the recent leak was private donor information and voicemails from children to their parents. Seriously, out of the 33,000+ files, only about a dozen were incriminating -- and even then, it was shady politics but nothing technically illegal... This was easily the most useless Wikileak to date.

Default Jeb!-n-Ted!

Waiting for the reports from The Donald's "people" that Republican leadership is plotting to assassinate Trump (with assistance from Rafael Cruz, because we all know he's done this kind of thing before), and that they will replace him with a Jeb!-n-Ted! ticket.

Republican party leadership is already planning for contingencies should Trump either drop out of the race, be indicted for something, or be incapacitated or otherwise indisposed to run for the Presidency. This can only feed his paranoia.

Yesterday Trump was claiming that the debates would be rigged against him. Today Trump is claiming the election will be rigged against him. The logical progression of Trump's paranoia is that Hillary and/or Republicans are conspiring to assassinate him.

They might not have been incriminating... but a couple of presidential election cycles back, they would have been damning. We live in a different time. Politics are a sporting event. 20 years ago, I don't know that there's any way she survives the email scandal. At the very least, it showed an incredible amount of incompetence. Criminal?...maybe not.. but worthy of her being removed from her position? Almost definitely.

And you're right. Hillary is letting Trump lose this election. He might be the only "politician" in the US dumb enough to fall into the trap.

There will be more leaked as we get closer to the election. It'll be something that's absolutely damning under normal circumstances but will just slide off of her without leaving a mark.

Default Sad!

Trump campaign promises to officially make Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice ineligible to run for the Presidency, since they both used private e-mail addresses during their tenures as Secretary of State for the Republican Bush administration, just as the incompetent Hillary Clinton would later do. Sad!

This would never have happened during a Trump presidency since he would only have used the BEST people as Secretary of State (i.e. no women, no minorities).

Trump vows that his Secretary of State (Newt Gingrich) will ONLY use a Trump-approved Twitter account to conduct State Department business.

I haven't read any articles on this yet, but I'm hearing from people in swing states who say there aren't any pro-Trump ads on television, or even any Trump campaign offices in their county... Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado -- all silent except for Hillary ads.

Sounds like the guy might be skimming campaign funds (grifter gonna grift)... He certainly doesn't appear to be spending the money where he needs it the most, anyway.

Did Trump just suggest assassination as a means of defeating political opposition? That's not something you "joke" around about...

Just shocking how this is all playing out. Hillary is the worst candidate unless your name is Trump...who is unbelievably worse.

Trump is either bat sh** or he is just playing people for a fool. There really is no other explanation to why he'd just frankly piss this away like he is doing. Seriously, any other semi-sane republican would be killing Hillary right now.

So which one was that? Which one was the semi-sane one? Ted Cruz? Micro Rubio? John Kasich? Jeb Bush? Chris Christie? Mike Huckabee? Rick Santorum? Ben Carson? Carly Fiorina? Rand Paul? Scott Walker? Bobby Jindal? Lindsay Graham? Rick Perry?.....Hell, Mitt Romney? Newt Gingrich?

The closest one to semi-sane in 2015-16 was JEB!, and I'm not entirely convinced about him. But why didn't he get back into the race? Or run an independent campaign, at least? Why did he dissolve like a wet fart against Trump?

Do you think Cruz would be doing any better against Hillary? The difference in Cruz and Trump is that Republicans ALREADY hated Cruz. They had to be persuaded about Trump.

So, why weren't there any sane candidates willing to run as Republicans? Why didn't Romney get back in the game? Why didn't Gingrich?

All of these names, sitting on the sidelines, make me think that the "Anyone-Else-But-Trump-Would-Be-Defeating-Hillary" trope is overblown. Because the Republicans couldn't convince anyone else to run. No Republican could convince him/herself even. (Evan McMuffin, the exception.)

I get the sense that most voters see through the Fox-manufactured nonsense about e-mail servers and Benghazi! These are not faux-controversies that would disqualify HRC from office any more than a covered-up DUI or forged service records from Dubya's time in the Texas Air National Guard should have disqualify him.

The people decrying Clinton are never able to go into any detail about what she allegedly did, or why it would disqualify her from the Presidency. They only scream buzzwords (SERVERS! BENGHAZI!) and are NEVER able to articulate any reasoned argument.

HRC is a terrible campaigner. I can barely stand to listen to her. She sounds like a backwoods bar owner braying above a barroom brawl. (Think Lavernia from the old sitcom Malcolm in the Middle.) She makes even her most natural allies cringe with her inauthenticity, and her propensity to always say the wrong thing, when as an attorney she should instinctively know to say as little as possible, if she can't get away with saying nothing.

But she is the most QUALIFIED candidate since George H.W. Bush, and she will be a competent, if uninspiring, candidate.

Hillary and Trump were nearly tied a week or two ago. So yes, even the Ted Cruz's and Marco Rubios of the world would do better because they don't talk about possibly killing the other candidate.

I don't give a crap about servers or benghazi. I have tons of other reasons why I personally don't like her. I didn't like her when she ran against Obama and nothing much has changed since then for me.

But neither Cruz nor Rubio could get to the point of facing her. Why? Is it just a matter of matchups? Cruz could be Hillary, if only he could beat Trump? But he can't come close to beating Trump? Live by the lie, die by the lie?

And why aren't they running independent campaigns now? Where is Paul Ryan? I don't have an answer. I'm curious what you (or almost anyone else) think(s).

I agree that she has a very difficult public personality to swallow. But her experience relative to any other candidate's in this year's field is unparalleled (not even close), all the more so versus Trump.
