I saw this movie last night. Let me be the first to tell you that this is an outstanding movie. I love a good Western. However, I'll be the first to tell you that about 90% of the westerns that I watch do not fall into that category.
Duvall and Costner work brilliantly together. The movie portrays just how akward the cowboy actually was back in the late 1800's. It's a good movie with a surprising amount of humor in it. The final showdown is much more realistic as well compared to most westerns.
It's definitely worth a look. As a big time fan of going to the movies, I can honestly say that this is definitely a top 3 movie for this summer.

RE: Open Range
My dad watched/watches Dances With Wolves so much I hate that movie and have started to hate Costner as well...This does not look good to me at all.
Has anyone seen the previews to The Alamo? Now, THAT looks good.

Thanks for the info. I've been wanting to check this one out for a while now. I loved Robert Duval as my all-time favorite book character Augustus McCrae in Lonesome Dove - I imagine he'll bring the same charm to this western character as well.

Him and Costner worked great together. Costner is more of the quiet guy throughout the movie.... duval was amazing.
Hell, I might go watch Open Range again today and then go home and watch Lonesome Dove.

I saw it tonight. Awesome. But, I did feel like I was watching a buddy flick with Augustus McCrae and John Dunbar (ala Lonesome Dove & Dances With Wolves). The love scenes at the end felt a little forced. B+
