Wow. Not that the Cavs weren't destined to win the East anyway, but this deal should make them even tougher to beat for any opponent.

The Clips save 700k, which is a few visits to an expensive hooker if you are Sterling. Its expirings for expirings and the Clips take back less than they sent out. There also may be cash considerations.

And with Drew's buyout, what 90 cents on the dollar?

Thats not a lot of money to give up one of your better young players (Thorton) for a veteran that is a backup pretty much everywhere. I really think the Wizards won this trade, they get a number 1 pick, they get a nice young player in Thorton, and they save money

Dallas benefits from this trade as well. We have an opportunity to resign Drew Gooden.
Also, Josh Howard and Josh Howard fantasy owners benefit as well. Without Jamison, Butler, or Haywood, it's hard to imagine Josh not being "the man" for the Wizards during the next 2 months.

Jamison to the Cavs...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4922833
By Marc Stein

Cleveland, Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a three-team deal that will land Antawn Jamison with the Cavaliers as LeBron James' new sidekick instead of Amare Stoudemire, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the deal will also send Zydrunas Ilgauskas' $11.5 million expiring contract and a first-round draft pick from Cleveland to Washington.
The deal also calls for the Wizards to receive Al Thornton from the Clippers, sources said, with L.A. getting forward Drew Gooden, whom Washington acquired in last week's trade with Dallas.
Besides Jamison, Cleveland will also acquire Clippers guard Sebastian Telfair.
Jamison left the arena in Washington before the Wizards' game against the Timberwolves on Wednesday.
After long-running trade talks with Washington and Phoenix, Cleveland opted for the Jamison deal, leaving the Miami Heat as the only known suitor for Stoudemire in advance of Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline.
The Cavs have been chasing Jamison since last season and ultimately preferred this trade in part because they did not have to surrender blossoming young forward J.J. Hickson. The Suns were demanding Hickson along with Ilgauskas' expiring salary for Stoudemire.
Washington relented on its insistence for Hickson because the trade brings more deck-clearing payroll and luxury-tax relief after last week's deal with Dallas that sent Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas.
Senior writer Marc Stein covers the NBA for ESPN.com.

Telfair had a player option (2.5) for next year. Now the Clippers have max money cap for James (hrhr).
Thornton is overrated, he has no bb iq at all and just can score...

Cleveland may not be done dealing just yet. That's a scary thought.

In the Amare thread, Alby said that if the Cavs got Jamison they would be the clear favorites to win the title. I think I agree with him.

Well assuming the Mavericks don't make the Finals, I hope Jamison gets him a ring.

how much money are the Wiz really saving, though, after they have to refund all their season-ticket-holders and lay off all their hot dog vendors? they'll be in a race with the Nets to see who draws the fewest fans from here on out.

Truth be told, it's something they should've done at least a year ago... maybe two.

Bump...
Wonder if Jamison could be had for expirings, given the Cavs are in the midst of a 1-20 stretch. He's been playing the 4 for Cleveland all year though--can he still play some 3? Certainly seems like the guy can still score, and I've always liked him--solid player, solid dude.
Butler plus Cardinal works cap-wise. Add $3MM to make up for the few remaining Cavs season ticket holders demanding their money back...

Jamison is one of the worst defenders in the NBA. I don't really have an interest in him at this point.

Jamison is bad defensively at the 4. He is absolutely atrocious defending the 3. His offense is diverse but not much better than Marion's.
He wasnt a fit years ago and he's less of a fit now. Upstanding and likeable guy, but just not what we need.
