Default Do mavs want Ostertag?

In the article below it says that Ostertag might be available via trade/pics

"Whatever happens by Feb. 19 — in exchange for assets like a draft pick and/or young prospect, the Jazz could deal Ostertag to a contender preparing for a playoff run, or to a club seeking to clear salary-cap space — it will be his prerogative to seek alternative pastures, should he so choose, when the NBA's free-agency market opens in July."

If The Jazz are willing to accept both our 2nd rounders and cash, DO IT!

Mavs dont have a feasible trade that would work, since Tag gets about 8M in salary this year and its unlikely they have 8M in contracts they would offer that Utah would take. Their real shot at him would be as a FA after the season.

Jamisonite, do you honestly think Utah would trade Kirilenko for Howard? That's just as bad as Wahad/Howard trade.

No way. Those trades do nothing for Utah.

If they keep Ostertag, they have a shot at the playoffs.

Why would they trade him for scrub parts with bloated contracts? I like Najera and Fortson, but they are backups with big flaws - and Ostertag is a decent C. And both Najera and Fortson have nasty contracts that no one would want.

How about this one?
A 3 way that kinda makes sense...kinda?

Atlanta trades: C Theo Ratliff (8.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 31.2 minutes)
Atlanta receives: PF Danny Fortson (3.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 0.1 apg in 11.7 minutes)
C Curtis Borchardt (3.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.9 apg in 16.1 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, +0.9 rpg, and +0.1 apg.

Dallas trades: PF Danny Fortson (3.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 0.1 apg in 11.7 minutes)
SF Eduardo Najera (3.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 13.7 minutes)
Dallas receives: C Greg Ostertag (8.1 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.8 apg in 46 games)
Change in team outlook: +1.1 ppg, +0.7 rpg, and +1.3 apg.

Utah trades: C Greg Ostertag (8.1 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.8 apg in 31.1 minutes)
C Curtis Borchardt (3.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.9 apg in 16.1 minutes)
Utah receives: C Theo Ratliff (8.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 51 games)
SF Eduardo Najera (3.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 28 games)
Change in team outlook: -0.1 ppg, -1.6 rpg, and -1.4 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Add the obligatory $3 million and maybe it works. Fortson wouldn't be that bad in the East as a 4-5 and Borchardt is big and young though injured alot...just a shot in the dark.

That trade might work for Dallas, and maybe for Utah, but it does nothing for Atlanta!

They have no use for Fortson - he is more salary, and they want less. They wouldnt want him, any more than Utah would.
