Mahahaha Matt Carroll back to the Bobcats....sorry but that is funny as hell.
Better than doing nothing. I'm fine with him as the back-up. Mavs have good size now.

So the amazing Dust Chip brought us a spare back up center and a French guy?
This can't be the move that is showing Dirk how serious we are about winning...something else will be coming at the deadline.

So we spend our biggest trading asset to get a guy the Hornets were giving away a season and a half ago? What?

I'm grossed out. Do the Mavs want the French National Team to play for us now?

They might have an exception to take on Carroll's contract.

The Bobcats are "very likely" to waive Dampier and his non-guaranteed $13 million salary for next season, a source tells Y!

Bring him back?

Ajinca/Chandler for Carroll/Dampier works.
Najera fits the TE.

Chandler's an 13mil expiring contract. So now you don't have to spend the MLE on Shaq, Chandler is a more than adequate backup center, and you have more ammo at the trade deadline.
Ok. I see the angle. Still a little deflating.

Alright, so let me see if I understand this right.
Chandler and Dampier are similar assets. They could have just kept Dampier to be used later, at the trade deadline, but instead they were able to get Chandler, Charlotte got some instant cap relief, and Dallas got to unload a few bad contracts, namely Carroll's. Since they were set on saving Dampier anyway, because the FO doesn't expect any deals to be made this summer that would benefit them, this trade is purely about getting rid of Carroll's contract and saving a little money.
Its also possible they believe that Tyson Chandler is a better center and a better fit, with Kidd and all, than Dampier.

Yep.
Similar asset, better player...

Yeah, certainly he's not the player that the Mavericks were trying to obtain with Dampier, but he is an upgrade while we are waiting for the trade deadline to acquire that player we really want.
And we've acquired two back up centers, and between the two we're hoping that they can lock down the backup 5 when Chandler is traded, if a center isn't acquired in the deal.
And let's not forget we saved a lot of money getting rid of Najera and Carroll, AND grabbed a trade exception.
Lots of things going on in this deal, and I think it might just pan out. This is dependent on someone being acquired at the trade deadline, but I still have my hopes up real high.

Agree 100% with this post.
We lived to fight another day with this deal, whereas someone like Jefferson would have been an all-in move that would either make or break the team (and does anyone REALLY think he would have put us over the top? Cuban doesn't and neither do I...)

I definitely would rather have Al Jefferson, but better than getting nothing for it.

If it makes anyone feel better, Alexis Ajinca sounds like he could be a really hot foreign chick.

Looks like the bottom line was that we didn’t have an appetite for another very good but overpaid player on a long term contract. That's the guy teams are looking to dump.
We're now really long and athletic at the 5. Unfortunately none of them can score with their back to the basket.

I'm right in thinking this is just the mavs pushing off their big deal until the deadline, right?

Like I said, it frees them up from HAVING to spend their MLE on a backup center, and it creates a potential trade chip this season.
Creating flexibility.

It certainly doesn't look like there are any big deals left to be had right now. So it may not be the worst strategy.
It's certainly not the pizazz we were looking for out of the DUST chip though.

Yes - Chandler's expiring is gonna make for a nice "DUST-lite" (even though it's not an instant expiring...)

LOL.. this offseason has been thrilling!
From the possibility of LeBron, Wade, then to the Paul, then to almost getting Jefferson.... to Tyson Chandler.
I guess the expectations were too high for the DUST chip. It's not a bad trade by any stretch. We are a big long team now. It does create flexibility.

We have three center on the rosters right now. No way Damp's coming back unless they're flipping Chandler, which isn't happening right now.

Tyson is not even a huge upgrade over what Damp brought as a basketball player in recent years let alone contract value. So they used a great expiring contract to get more expiring contracts?

They traded one expiring contract for another one, all while getting rid of some bad contracts and acquiring a young potential center guy.
Not a bad deal, as long as you can cash in on something at the trade deadline.

Ugh, the rumor yesterday was that Chandler was headed to Toronto, along with Diaw. I heard Calderon was going to Charlotte, anyways this morning read that MJ had a change in heart.
Was this brass' reaction to the Jefferson move? Geez hope not.
