The vote is in and the NBA has a new face as the most handsome man. Chris Kaman, in his third year in the League, has come from nowhere to defeat the Clippers’ summer acquisition, a Mr. Sam Cassell.

Cassell had won the award the previous 6 seasons and was poised for an unprecedented 7th title in a row, that is until the second year phenom Chris Kaman stole the award from Cassell, backed up by his greasy blond flowing looks and chiseled brow which often draws him comparison to Brad Pitt, particularly when dining on Hollywood’s trendy restaurants on the Sunset Strip.

“I am at a loss for words, to take home the NBA’s most coveted award; well I did not expect this. To be in the same category as such Adonis’s like Dikembe Mutombo, Tim Duncan, Bill Walton, AC Green and my teammate Sam Cassell, of course, it is just such an honor.”

Kaman has been slated to appear on the cover of the April edition of GQ and that is just the beginning. He is already up for some big parts as Hollywood’s next hunky leading man.

So what is next for the striking 7’0” center?

“Well, it’s Friday, I’m probably grab a sixer of Pabst and rent Good Will Hunting.”

Kaman and Nash are in desperate need of some, any, hair advice. Considering that they have to wash it after each game, I would just mow it off.

If you don't care about how it looks, what's the freaking point of having it obstruct your view?

I was thinking, we all know Kaman is wierd-looking, but I think he's seriously one of the more underrated players in the league. 24 years old in his third year and almost averaging a double-double. He's got decent skills on both sides of the ball, can hit his free-throws and runs the floor very well for a guy his size. I'd love to have him on my team.

Quick, who is the second-best center in the NBA? Obviously Shaquille O'Neal is the best, and the name most people put after Shaq is Yao Ming. In fact, Yao has been on fire of late, averaging 32 points and 11 boards over his last five games.
But if you said Chris Kaman, you wouldn't be far off.

Kaman is having a breakthrough season and is one of the reasons the Clippers have become one of the better teams in the NBA. The 7-footer from Central Michigan is averaging 11.7 points and 9.4 boards but had a huge night in L.A.'s victory over Minnesota on Monday, going for 24 points and 23 rebounds. It was another in a long line of outstanding performances for the young center.

He is a traditional back-to-the-basket big man with great hands, a soft touch with either hand around the hoop and quicker feet than you'd think. He's always in good position defensively, clogging the lane and helping teammates, and he has anchored a defense that has been among the league leaders in opposing field-goal percentage all season. His presence has also opened up the game for Elton Brand, who is enjoying an MVP-type year.

In short, Kaman has become a top-five center in the league and may have elevated himself to the top two or three.

In light of the Rockets facing the Clippers tonight, it's a good time to take a look at how the two teams' centers match up.
Recently, former Spurs guard and current NBA analyst Steve Kerr wrote an article about who the 2nd best center in the NBA is.

Kerr wrote, "Obviously Shaquille O'Neal is the best, and the name most people put after Shaq is Yao Ming ... but if you said Chris Kaman, you wouldn't be far off." Kerr, after praising Kaman highly, added in closing that the Clippers center "has become a top-five center in the league and may have elevated himself to the top two or three."

Yes, it's true Kaman deserves praise for his improvement this season (11.6 points and 9.5 boards) as he's filled the middle well for a team with an excellent starting five.

But is the third-year center better than Yao Ming?

Laughable.

Never mind that the Rockets center is now at 22.1 points and 10.1 boards -- which dwarf Kaman's numbers -- but take a look at the head-to-head averages this season.

But Chris Kaman better than Yao Ming? Again, not on your life.

It's good to see Beetlejuice, I mean Kaman get some love. But Kerr's talking out of his ass again. Yao is arguably better than Shaq now, and Kaman isn't the difference maker that either one of those two are. That being said, simply because of his youth and Shaq's apparent frailty, I'd take Kaman at this point. I know that's sacrelidge, but I just think Shaq is breaking down physically.

Yao may be better than Shaq, but the more appropriate question within the context of this thread is:

Is Yao better-looking than Shaq?

I say it's pretty even, both could stand some cosmetic work. Though I must say that that particular picture of Yao makes him look kinda gay.
