Outgoing Players
Josh Howard

Drew Gooden
6-9 PF from Kansas
8.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 22.4 minutes
Jose Barea
6-0 PG from Northeastern
8.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.4 apg in 21.9 minutes
##############################

We get Butler, Haywood and Stevenson at the price of JJ, Josh, and Gooden. We obviously get arguably the two best players in the deal, either or both of which are starters for us (depending on Damp's health) and a guy in Stevenson who can hit threes and would get open looks when playing next to Dirk and Kidd. If he doesn't earn many minutes, at least he's off the books this summer.

This brings Washington's cap figure at about $67.06M give or take (estimating Arenas' forfeiture of his salary being around $9.5M), which would put them below the luxury tax line of $69.92M, with around $16M in expiring deals to give them flexibility this offseason.

this would be very nice considering we could go with a very good big or small lineup.

kidd/butler/marion/dirk/haywood would be a rebounding/defensive machine or

kidd/beaubois/terry/butler(or marion)/dirk would be a very good small lineup

I just hope we are able to satiate Washington's needs more than the Rockets/Knicks fiasco going on right now.

Josh - SG/SF
JJB - PG/SG
Gooden - PF/C

All expiring

compare that to T-Mac, or if we factor in New York, Washington getting Al Harrington + trash .... I think our deal is the most superior in terms of talent/costs. Washington can still win at the same rate it has been.

I am really pushing for Haywood ... he's on my fantasy team, and I think his numbers would get a substantial increase in Dallas ^_^, especially with Gooden traded and Dampier injured

The thing with the potential T-Mac trade is that so much money would be sent around, it would be tough to create a scenario that actually gets Washington out of the red. Our deal helps them this year and this summer.

Imagine if they're able to cut Arenas without owing him anything... Washington would then have tons of cap space available...

as much as i want iggy or martin more..washington has the best pieces available for us right now att the right time and price...

Mavs could also throw in Nick Calathes, Ahmad Nivins, and/or Shan Foster(?,don't know if Mavs still have his draft rights).

Plus we do have a solid history of trading with Washington in that Antawn Jamison deal. They came out pretty good there.

washington looks like our most likely trading partner.. with sac being 2nd most likely. philly iisnt lookin likely with dalembert glued to iggy.

i dont think cuban is too intrigued to make a deal..he seems more interested in this summer..cant blame him..its just a waste of another season in the dirk era

if there's no Martin/Iguodala then it's ho-hum for me. Butler for Howard is like glass for glass, we might as well have gotten Mcgrady. Haywood is a welcome piece but he won't put us over the top like the two men i mentioned earlier.

Anyone who has been a Mavs/Dallas fan for the past decade should not even be cautiously optimistic, someone said that we could have MJ+Dirk and still not win it all, i can't even argue with that.

Marc Stein says the deal is almost done. Its a good trade. The good thing is we keep our cap flexibility.

Damp
Dirk
Marion
Butler.
Kidd

Jet moves back to the bench we get an anchor on defense with Haywood.

it's happening

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

The Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks are nearing completion on a trade that will exchange Caron Butler and Josh Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The teams were negotiating whether to expand the trade to include Wizards center Brendan Haywood, but one source with knowledge of the talks said he doesn’t expect the core of the deal – Butler and Howard – to unravel. Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson is expected to be moved to Dallas in either deal involving Butler.

The Mavericks would send Quinton Ross or Tim Thomas and possibly Drew Gooden to Washington if the trade also includes Haywood.

I'm a big fan of this deal, if it happens.

Ok, it's not the super-sexy LeBron/Wade/Bosh kind of deal...but that wasn't going to happen anyway. What we do have is, a team that's been among the top four teams in the West all season, albeit struggling of late; by making this trade, we add (a) a much-needed kick in the a$$, (b) swapping Josh Howard the has-been for a guy who's basically the same player--but not a total bonehead, and (c) a serious upgrade at the Center position--much better defensively than Gooden, better offensively (and healthier) than Damp. This could be the deal that makes the Mavs contenders again this season. And if it doesn't work, well, we weren't going anywhere anyway, and we still have the DUST chip for the offseason (plus the ability to use Bird rights to keep or S&T Haywood, and Butler and/or Marion as a trade chip).

Why Trade Howard? He has soo much potential. Didn't he go to the all star game twice? I think trading Howard is horrible.

Butler to Mavs, Wiz get HowardComment Email Print Share By Marc Stein
ESPN.com
Archive
The Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks have completed a seven-player trade that launches Washington's long-anticipated rebuilding project in earnest and sends Wizards mainstays Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood to the Mavericks.

The teams agreed on the principal pieces Friday: Butler, Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas for Josh Howard and Drew Gooden. Mavericks reserves Quinton Ross and James Singleton were added to the deal Saturday and are also Washington-bound, with Dallas due to receive cash considerations in addition to the three players.

Washington and Dallas have completed a trade call with the league office to secure the NBA's required approval and will formally announce the trade later Saturday, sources said.

The Wizards have been talking to several teams for weeks about deals involving Butler and Haywood, most notably Houston with Tracy McGrady's $22.5 million expiring contract. But talks with Dallas had stalled in the past week, partly because of Washington's insistence that the Mavericks take guard Stevenson in any Butler deal.

When Washington agreed late in the week that it would add Haywood to the deal, talks picked up Thursday night and only grew more serious Friday, resulting in the trade that is widely regarded as the first major domino needed to loosen things up on the trade market in advance of Thursday's annual trading deadline.

The acquisitions of Butler and Haywood, meanwhile, would be a welcome spark for the sputtering Mavericks, with Butler moving into the spot vacated by Howard and Haywood arriving as another rim-protecting defensive anchor in the wake of a knee injury that has compromised the effectiveness of Mavs center Erick Dampier.

Acquiring Haywood and having the chance to re-sign him this summer would likely fill the void Dallas thought it filled last summer, when the Mavs signed Orlando center Marcin Gortat to a lucrative offer sheet, only for the Magic to unexpectedly match the offer to the restricted free agent.

Washington inevitably wanted Beaubois added to the deal, but Mavs owner Mark Cuban said earlier this week that his young point guard is "pretty much untouchable" as Thursday's trade deadline approaches. But sources say the Wizards are gaining so much payroll and luxury-tax relief -- while also keeping Jamison to either keep or move in a separate deal before Thursday's deadline -- that they couldn't pass on Dallas' offer.

The potential for acquiring two front-line players -- since Butler and Haywood would immediately become key rotation players for Dallas -- renewed the Mavs' interest and convinced them to relent on Stevenson.

Speaking to a group of reporters Thursday, Cuban said: "We kind of know the parameters [under] which we would make a deal. If somebody meets our parameters, we'll pull the trigger. But if not, we're not going to do it. I don't see us doing something just to do something because that'll kill our flexibility this summer. But in the event that there's somebody that really upgrades our talent and really makes our team better, then maybe we'll do it."

Dallas gets cash considerations? Wowzers.

You wonder if Washington didn't want both Ross and Singleton for the added flexibility they give the Wiz as trade assets going forward. Interesting.
