Cool Official vBookie Thread

I'm sure some of you have played around with vBookie on other sites, but for those of us who haven't, go ahead and post any comments, questions, etc here

- Any registered user can bet on an existing vBookie event.
- Anyone with a vCash balance of <25 will have their balance reset to 25 whenever a new event is added.
- You can see all current events by clicking the vBookie link on the navbar.

Pretty cool. Should make for some fun bets.

I was hoping it would help with the Over/Under thing, and it may, but it looks like it will be a bit cumbersome for that.

Unless I'm clicking on the wrong link, that wasn't incredibley helpful.

We need to have a way to check someone else's betting (specific games), instead of having to look up each thread. For instance, if I wanted a sure thing, I might want to bet opposite of what Doc is betting.

But I can't pull up his bet history without viewing all the bet threads myself. Is it possible to do this DJ?

I agree with this, and would it be possible to add like the cash to the member list? So you can sort members by rep and posts (like you always have been able to) and by total betting cash?

Yeah, and hopefully DJ will be able to make it where you sort the top cash holders like you can for rep and posts in the member list.

You can already do that. Click on vBookie, then click on bet statistics and the list of top money and bets are listed. It probably own't change much until someone starts winning.

I lost $500 on the spurts tonight so it won't be me.

Yeah, but doesn't that only show the top 5? I meant it'd be cool if it showed everybody's rank like it does for rep.

I didn't bet on that game haha cuz it was too close to call.

The early returns has Fizth dominating with $1500 vCash on a Cavaliers win.

One possible abusement of this vBookie system is this: Say you know that the mavs are going to beat the warriers. But you start a vbet thread setting odds on a mavericks win at 4 to 1. The advantage to you is that you know you were going to do this and you did not have any other bets going at the time using your vCash. But others were not prepared for this and had vCash out on other bets that weren't settled. You clean up on the mavs, while you leave the others in the dust. Your rep might suffer, but you dominate the richest leader board. Is there any way to keep betting odds relatively realistic when the originator can set any odds he wants?

Also, I bet $500 on games that have not been played yet, but because I bet these yesterday, I get $25 free today, even though I have not lost a bet yet. Unfair?

The mods will be keeping an eye out for potential abuse. Any such threads will be deleted. We had discussed perhaps only allowing the mods to create new vBookie events (to prevent "cheating"), but for the time being, we'll keep the option open to all members. I hope the vBookie add-on will be fun for everyone, noobs/lurkers and old-timers alike. One thing I think would be pretty cool is if we could somehow implement real Vegas odds. We're definitely open to suggestions.

How about we all put some money in the pot, and pay the winners off. We could do it through the whole season, or up till the All-Star break and then have a second season, or whatever. Maybe we could put twelve bucks each in the pot. We could send the money to DJ. Two bucks to d-m.com for being so awesome and all, and ten bucks to the pot. Winner take all, or pay the top three...whatever.

Anyone interested? I know I always like it when there is something on the line, even if it's something small.

I've seen this done on another site and it completely ruins the fun. Horrible idea. Seriously...just take it for what it is and enjoy the fun.

If you ever played Party Poker's free games, then you know how meaningless "bets" are when there is nothing behind them. Not they they aren't fun. I certainly agree with you that they are fun. But I think that, given the highly educated nature of the denizens on this board, this particular feature might be more meaningful to many if there was a prize at the end of the day.

This is a proud and smart and cagey bunch.

Sounds just like the rhetoric at the other board right before they went down the road that eventually led to the removal of vbookie. I'm not telling you what to do only what has happened. You can count me out with prejudice. I think it is a horrible idea.

No problem. Just throwing the idea out there. If there were a few people who were interested, we could always arrange it amongst ourselves. No big deal, either way.

It's a long road back from 25 bucks, though, isn't it? When you just shove your 500 out there on a whim? Good game to anyone who fights back from 25 to anything meaningful.

On second thought, Doc, put up or shut up. If you're scared, put on a helmet.

Stop being retarded. You know damn good and well I am right. If you want to do it do it. Noone is stopping you. If you want to ignore the FACT that is has negatively affected other sites that s your shortcoming.

Just curious, why has Spurs vs. Cavs not settled yet? Does the software automatically settle or is it done manually? Thanks.
