Default Texas Rangers 2015 Season Thread

Sorry to get off to a late start...

1-1 now

hoping for some breakouts from younger players and that we'll stay competitive enough to get a shot at things for when some of our injured players return.

Nice to see Prince do some damage last night - hope he can get back to regular form and hit the porch about 45 times.

I say 88 wins, a wildcard and hoping for some playoff magic.

More errors than runs through 3 games.
Outscored 19-3 in the opening series against an Oakland team which has its own injuries.
I'll predict 70-92.
I hope I am wrong.

wacky start to the season but can't complain about 2-2 on the road.

hope they keep Andrus out of the top of the lineup for now
Martin, Choo, beltre, fielder is pretty salty esp against righties for the top of the lineup.

Yeah, 2-2 is a decent start. Good to see the homeruns in yesterday's box score.
Andrus has looked awful so far. Can't wait to see what Holland brings in the home opener today.

one nice thing i see is that mlb.com has a condensed version of the whole game - runs like 10-12 minutes but is nice for recapping all the main plays of the whole game and not just the main highlights.

boom! first place baby! Woot!

we need rain outs on odd numbered games and just play double headers on even numbered game days - then we'd never lose.

Disapppinting to see more early season injuries. Does this team have some kind of training problem?

Fielder is mashing right now - really locked in. it's great to see.
Tolleson - looking great.
Martinez - finally gave up an earned run - 0.45 ERA through 3 games. what a lift. that's 1/2 our wins right now.

unfortunately more than 1/2 our lineup is batting <200 now. amazing we're 6-8.
Astros in first place!

Default what a month

it's been a fun month with tons of hitting
Fielder is just lighting it up like crazy - you'd think they'll start pitching around him a bit more
Hamilton back for better or worse...

not sure if they can keep it up but it's been fun to watch

From an 8-16 record to 23-23.
Fielder hitting .371.
I may have to go see them play live before it gets too hot.

Yeah that was a hell of a debut. 3 for 4 with a walk, double, homerun, 4 RBI.
And the homer was a 420 ft bomb into the upper deck in right.
He's gonna strike out a lot before he settles in. But he is fun to watch. I got to see him in Frisco a coupke times. I hope he has a long career in Texas.

I'm excited about Gallo and the other position players that are still in Frisco.. Mazara, Williams, and Alfaro... Plus Telis is in AAA... loaded at the A level as well.

Homered again tonight 439 feet. Understandable that he didn't do anything against Sale. What are they going to do when Beltre comes back?

With Hamilton out a month now and Gallo able to play in the outfield, Gallo gets a chance to stay up a month instead of just the 2-3 weeks Beltre misses.
I still think Gallo goes back to Roundrock when Josh gets back.
But if he just plays ridiculous over the next month, I guess they make a spot for him somewhere.
If Delino Deshields weren't playing so well, he'd be the one to lose his spot. I don't know.

I know nothing about baseball. Is second base that much more difficult to play that Adam Rosales or Hanser Alberto cannot be replaced by Beltre or Gallo?

You'd typically want someone quicker to play second base. Realistically, Beltre could have made the move to second easily enough at one point in his career but not at his current age. Gallo.. He's a great athlete but he doesn't have the quickness to play a middle infield position.

What you might see is Beltre move to first at some point. The Rangers are going to have a problem.. They will soon have too many corner outfielders, corner infielders, and DH's. Not all of them are proven by any stretch, but so many of their top prospects play corner infield and/or corner outfield positions..

Gallo
Williams (could probably play a little center)
Mazara
Cordell
Guzman (who's sliding a bit)
Rua (although he can play a little second)
Plus, you already have
Moreland (can play first and corner OF)
Hamilton (who can play some center)
Deshields (who can play some center)
Choo
Fielder
Blanks (who's probably just organizational filler, but could have upside..was highly regarded at one point)

Some of it will work itself out

Thanks for the explanation, Murphy. If Beltre is moved to first, then I'm guessing you are suggesting trading Fielder?

Fielder will be DH.... and I said that Gallo wouldn't have the quickness..well, he's also not agile enough to play second. He moves very well for someone his size, but you don't see 6'5 guys playing second.

I don't know that they keep Beltre long term. I think they'd like to keep him until he's retired, but he's only signed through 2016. You have to start thinking about how many aging players do you want on the team.. You have Choo that is signed long term. Fielder is signed long term. Hamilton has a couple of years left but at extremely reasonable money.. and then Beltre.

watching rangers and rockies 7-22. tanner scheppers is the worst pitcher in the american league. he blew a lead on 7-20 resulting in a loss after the ranges came back from 7 runs down. today he gives up four in the 8th (a solo and a 3 run homer) bannister is nuts to keep rolling him out there.

-Gallo is a top 10 prospect. He could still use some seasoning in the minors. He'll almost certainly start the season in AAA next year.
-Williams was moved in the Cole Hamels trade. He's one of the top prospects in baseball.
-Mazara is considered by some to be the best pure hitter in the minors. He will be ready to take the next step to the majors next year but will probably stay in the minors simply because there's nowhere to put him. He'll be in AAA to start the season next year. Mazara started the season as a 19 year old. He did not struggle at AA or AAA. Not at all. He's the player I'm most excited about because he's the future best hitter on the Rangers team. He's the kind of guy that could eventually win batting titles.
-Cordell - moved up to AA and struggled for the first time in his professional career. He'll start the season in AA next year.
-Guzman - He had a bit of a bounce back year after a rough 2014. He'll start the season in High A probably although there is an outside chance of him starting the season in AA (very, very slim chance). He's still at least 2 years away.
-Rua - He had a lost season due to injuries. Unfortunately, his injuries will probably keep from him ever getting a good shot here in Texas. Hamilton will be the starting Left Fielder. If he's injured (which he will), Mazara may be the guy to replace him next year with a call-up. Rua might stick as a guy that can play multiple positions.. OF, 2nd, 3rd, and 1B
-Moreland - He's probably your starting 1st baseman next year although you might see him platoon with:
-Napoli - He was brought in late in the season. I can see him back playing some first, left field, and DHing from time to time next season. The Rangers need right handed bats that hit lefties. Napoli fits the bill.
-Hamilton - He'll be the starting LFer going into the season unless there's some type of relapse or he's found dead in a ditch from an overdose. He's injury prone so that'll give other guys plenty of playing time.
-Deshields - He's the starting CFer going into the season next year. He has taken that from Leonys Martin. Martin is vastly superior defensively, but Deshields gets on base. You need that at the top of your order.
-Martin - Maybe Martin will stick as a 4th outfielder. His arm is absolutely electric and plays well from any outfield spot.
-Choo - He's your rightfielder going forward for the next few years. He was perhaps the best offensive player in the league the second half of the season. After the All Star game, he had a .343 Avg, .455 OBP, 1.016 OPS with 30 extra base hits. When he's going good, he walks a ton and works pitchers. He hits the ball with some authority... just a tremendous guy to have towards the top of the order when he's on. He's also another guy that could sit from time to time versus certain lefties.
-Fielder - your DH of the future. He had a great bounce back year but did fade the second half of the season.
-Blanks - I don't know what to expect out of the guy. He produced when healthy, but health has always been an issue. He had surgery on both achilles... The Rangers could use a right handed bat. I don't know if he's the guy or not, but I could see him getting a look in Spring Training.

To further cloudy the waters, the Rangers future CFer is probably Lewis Brinson.
-Brinson is another top prospect that really came into his own this year. He spent time at High A, AA, and AAA. He hit at every level. He has become more patient and has cut down on his strikeouts the past couple of years without losing power. He has a legitimate 20 HR bat. He hit .332 in the minors this year.. stole 18 bases.. and is likely a plus centerfielder. He is a five tool player. I mentioned him not because he's a future corner outfielder or corner infielder. He's mentioned because he'll likely push Deshields to one of the corners or to the trading block. Brinson looks like he could play in the majors as a September call up next year or to start the year in 2017 if he continues to hit.

And, Jurickson Profar is healthy.. Where does he play?

Oh my gawd that game was tense.
26 out of 26 ESPN experts picked Toronto over Texas in this series. It was the only series they could all agree on.
Go Rangers.

Three wins a row possibility by Toronto? If anyone can, it will be them, especially with the way Rangers tend to choke...

Very sad. After the first games, i thought the Rangers could make it.
