NJ Clears Salary
New Jersey Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Jason Kidd
6-4 PG from California
13.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 8.4 apg in 37.2 minutes
Clifford Robinson
6-10 PF from Connecticut
6.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.1 apg in 23.3 minutes
Incoming
Austin Croshere
6-9 PF from Providence
8.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 22.9 minutes
Anthony Johnson
6-3 PG from Charleston
9.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 4.3 apg in 26.4 minutes
Jerry Stackhouse
6-6 SG from North Carolina
13.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.9 apg in 27.7 minutes
Dallas does the deal to get a legit PG to run the offense. At 6'4" Kidd is big enough and effective enough to play the 2 in the dallas offense. Dallas gets a decent backup 4 to Dirk. In this scenario, Terry goes to the bench to take Stack's role.
NJ does this deal to clear significant salary cap space. The Mavs throw in some additional cash and/or picks to sweeten this deal and are able to upgrade without damaging their core.
Your starting lineup looks like this:
Harris
Kidd
Howard
Dirk
Damp

Thorn mulls next Net move
BY MITCH LAWRENCE
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
The most disappointing team by far in the Atlantic Division takes the court tonight for the first time in 2007, hoping that it will not be not a continuation of the last two months of 2006.
But Nets president Rod Thorn freely admits that he doesn't know if his underachieving 13-18 club - already with nine losses in games they led with six minutes left - is finally going to get its act together starting tonight against Chicago.
Thorn traded for backup swingman Bernard Robinson on Wednesday. But that could be only the first deal for the Nets before the Feb.22 trading deadline.
According to one Western Conference executive, "The Nets are trying to do everything they can" to make a move that will jumpstart their season." The executive said that they would even deal Jason Kidd if the right trade came along, although his age and contract make him difficult to move. Vince Carter has the most appeal, although he can opt out of his contract after this season. Carter's name has been linked to the Clippers, who are trying to move Corey Maggette and Cuttino Mobley. But the Nets don't see them as a sufficient upgrade.
"What normally transpires between Jan. 15 and the trading deadline is that a lot of teams figure out, 'We're not what we thought we were,'" Thorn said. "But this year, it's taken teams longer because everybody in the Eastern Conference - and I'm even including Philadelphia - has a chance, particularly in our division."

Skiles now lavishes his praise on Kidd
By K.C. Johnson
Tribune staff reporter
January 4, 2007, 9:16 PM CST
Apparently, Scott Skiles didn't exhaust his supply of adjectives while raving about Steve Nash earlier this week.
The Bulls face another perennial All-Star whom Skiles coached when they travel to New Jersey, where they rarely play well or experience success.
Jason Kidd typically has a little to do with that.
"He's one of the greatest to ever play that [point guard] position," Skiles said Thursday.
Such comments are consistent with Skiles' take on Kidd, whom he coached in Phoenix for close to two full seasons. Kidd either responds with a shot at Skiles or a no comment.
Whatever the case, there is no disputing Kidd's impact. He's averaging close to a triple-double (13.4 points, 9.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds).
"I've been on the sideline when I've seen him just totally take over a game or several games for a four- or five-minute stretch where he didn't score a point," Skiles said. "But he made every play.
"He rebounds. He goes end-to-end. He's a good defender. He's got great hands.
"To this day, every time there's a loose ball he's even near he gets it no matter who else is near it. He just brings a lot of things that help you win the game."

Although I could see Dallas questioning this one, I don't think it is a "no brainer" because of Kidd's salary.
Dallas might consider it, but I doubt them doing it. New Jersey might consider it, but I would think they would want more.

Why would NJ give away Kidd. The team is struggling now, but in the playoffs they mite be able to get far. IDK it just doesnt make sense to me..and why would you start Kidd and Harris

why again do we need a "true" PG to run the offense?
i mean...we're 26-7 with a 12 game win streak.
any trade at this point is a bad idea.

Allen, Garnett on Nets’ trade radar
Friday, Jan 12, 2007 12:00 pm EST
The New Jersey Nets are looking to trade for Seattle SuperSonics guard Ray Allen and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett. Nets forward Vince Carter and guard Jason Kidd could be included a trade.
When asked what the Nets want for Carter, a league source said, "They want everything." The Nets want a combination of players, including one big man, and draft picks. For Kidd, they would want more.

Good luck with that. Anyone who takes kidd is a nutt. Carter is pretty okay because I think his contract is expiring.

I don't think we could get Kidd without dealing Harris.. and a first rounder.. and expiring contracts. The Nets are in a great position to win the entire East right now, being one of the few teams that actually has a chance to legitimately compete for a championship. I don't see them sacrificing their shot at a championship unless they get a couple of significant pieces in return.

The Nets want Ray Allen or KG but maybe they'll decide Stackhouse, Croshere, and Johnson are just as good.

Well not bad of a trade scenario. Just dont like the idea of putting the Jet on the bench. Kind of a large sum of money being paid for someone to come off the bench. But considering Damp's scenario last season, I might be wrong. Just keeping an open mind people.

I love this trade idea but if NJ is really expecting to get significantly more than that for Kidd then they are just kidding themselves.
By the way, if that trade did go down I would start Terry at 2, Kidd at PG and bring Harris off the bench for significant minutes to keep Kidd's aging body nice and fresh for the playoffs.

I agree completely! But this is in no way ever going to happen. Why mess with a machine in fine working order...Maybe AJ2 for another backup or maybe Cro for someone, but nothing blockbuster is coming through the Mavs.
