Lakers sign Horace Grant
July 28, 2003
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Horace Grant is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers.
A starting forward on the Lakers' NBA championship team of 2001, Grant signed a free agent contract with the team Monday. Terms were not announced.
Grant, who turned 38 earlier this month, hasn't played since being released by the Orlando Magic last Dec. 11. He played only five games with the Magic last season, averaging 5.2 points and 1.6 rebounds.
Grant is a 16-year veteran who has played in 1,110 games and has four championship rings. He signed with Orlando in July 2001 and averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first season with the Magic.
He played in 77 games with the Lakers in 2000-01, averaging 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.
The 6-foot-10 Grant has career averages of 11.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He played seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls before joining Orlando in 1994. He played five seasons with Orlando and one each with Seattle and the Lakers before returning to the Magic.

another pretty good signing by the Lakers. Grant should give them decent results in small minutes.

I think he can spell Malone for a few minutes. He is not someone I would sign, but I think he is still serviceable.

i wouldn't mind him being the guy giving Dirk some R&R.

Shaq, Kobe, Payton, Malone... and now Horace Grant?
Have you ever seen such a collection of egos in your life? Phil is definitely going to have his zen-tality tested this year.

Grant is washed up on a team like the Magic.
I think he's still got something to give in limited minutes on a team like the Lakers.

Didn't he get cut by the Magic? I don't believe he could even get a NBA team to sign him last season.

Sexual felony, assault in the back court to go with the egos. Seriously have the lakers become the trailblazers? A tremendously talented team but any minute it could explode. All I have to say to this is "Beat LA!"

That was because of his knee injury. Given a choice between the Mad Dork and Grant, I would have rather have Mad Dork. I would have picked Horry over both of them. Losing Horry when all he was asking for was 2 Mil was a big mistake. After getting handed Payton and Malone on a silver platter by Shaq and Magic, Bitch Cupcake still manages to fumble the GM ball. Cupcake should take a long hard look at Jim Jackson considering the uncertainty with the Kobe situation.
