whoever planned it, it was in poor taste....this is not the place for anything like that..you've gotta think about the parents watching this with their young ones..

three possibilities off the top of my head

1. MTV who produced the halftime show
2. Justin timberlake trying to one up britney for the kiss
3. CBS(pretty doubtful about this one)..

CBS has already apologized for it and said that MTV will likely never produce another halftime show ever again

and it looks like it took all the heat off the lingerie bowl..i haven't seen a single person discussing that

edit: looks like mtv came out and said that it was unplanned and unintentional

Top CBS executives approved a musical skit where Janet Jackson would expose her breast during the MTV-produced Super Bowl half-time concert, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"The decision to go forward went to the very top of the network," a well-placed source explained from New York.

The groundbreaking scene came during the most-watched television broadcast of the year -- and during the dinner hour for the nation's west coast viewers.

Officially, CBS drew distance from the show: "CBS deeply regrets the incident that occurred during the Super Bowl halftime show," the network said in a release. "We attended all rehearsals throughout the week and there was no indication that any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

In a press release before Sunday's game, CBS's sister outlet [VIACOM's] MTV promised "Janet's Shocking Moments."

"I'll get you naked by the end of this song," sang performer Justin Timberlake, moments before he ripped off Jackson's top, exposing a bare breast -- the nipple covered by a tassel.

CBS's main New York switchboard was immediately bombarded with complaints about the stunt, network sources said late Sunday.

The NFL claimed outrage over the stunt:

Statement by NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne regarding the Super Bowl halftime show: "We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced Halftime show. They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the show. It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

Honestly, I thought the halftime show sucked. I really wish they would get some good entertainers on there. I just can't imagine Justin Timberlake or Rhythm Nation doing much for the common football fan. It was the obvious lowpoint to a great night of football.

And yes, if I had children, I would have been offended to have them see that...

This fires up another oft-realized thought in my head.. I'm all for people complaining when they don't like things. But who keeps phone numbers for TV networks on speed dial? On a side note..........In recent years, as an avid football fan, I have been privilaged to attend a string of Super Bowls starting with 33 in Miami. That streak will probably come to an end next year as the game will be in the smallest city it has ever been in, Jacksonville, for some odd reason. Then I will probably resume for Detroit for SB XL.

I was lucky enough to come down to Texas for SB weekend. And aside from almost getting run-over from the killer light rail train in my drunken party-induced state I was in, it was the best SB week I have ever been too. Went to tons of party's (more then I can ever remember for any other SB), saw more movie stars then any of my visits to Hollywood. I had so much fun, like most of the other visitors, I almost forget about the game itself..........which I like everyone else, assumed would bore me to death.

And for most of the first half I was right.............

Then business picked up toward the end of the first half. Then there was the Janet "boob" incident. Before the game, the rumor that filled the stadium was that the "suprise" MTV was going to have was for brother Micheal Jackson to show up on stage with her. At halftime, we all found out it the suprise was Justin. And then we found out maybe the suprise was the "boob" exposure.

It was classic. The showed the "boob" incident UP CLOSE for all to see on the stadiums huge replay board. And that wasnt the only ADULT actiivity going on. Some dancers had literally nothing on but red thongs in the caberet dance scene.

I know Houston is famous for its nudy bars but this is ridiculous. People in the stands were stunned........in COMPLETE SHOCK. After a halftime preformance, normally you get a load ovaition form the crowd. In this case, people were so much in shock, it was all quiet after the performance. Except of course for us Northeastern men, we love that stuff. It was classic and unfrogetable. No Halftime will EVER TOP THIS ONE.

And as if things couldnt get any worse............World reknowned STREAKER, Mark Roberts finally achieved his dream.........he streaked the Super Bowl. He came out undetected with the officiating crew, dressed as a ref! Then as the Cats lined up for the kick, he ran to the middle of the feild and ripped of the ref uniform to reveal a red thong and "Golden Palace Casino" scribbled on his chest........a la some of the boxers now a days. Then he was chased by security before one of the Pats players leveled his ass. Absloutely hilarous stuff.............

And then there was the sudden death, fourth quarter shootout. Man, I can not describe the feeling inside the stadium at this time. Simply the best. I, as did most of the non-partisan crowd, started eventually rooting for the underdog Panthers to pull a Jets/Nameth type upset. And after Proehl's TD with 1:08 left, most of us started preparing for OT! That was untill Kasey blew the whole season for the more-then-gamed Panthers. Sad way to end a great game. But still one of the best SB's ever played in history........

The way everything was done down here was absolutely classy, except for MTV screwing around with the the halftime. All the parites, events, gathererings........Just an absolute blast. In my mind, no city has done it better, yet. Not Miami, NO or SD etc........They cant top this.

I hope more Super Bowls come down to Texas. And after the way this SB went, I'm sure another one will be back in Reliant Stadium very soon.......

I think it is ammusing that everybody has denied it was intentional, when it clearly was deliberate. Viacom owns CBS and MTV, and MTV produced the halftime show. I refuse to believe that the MTV higher ups didn't consult Viacom. If they didn't, they need to be canned.

I am willing to give the NFL a pass, because this isn't its style. And their statement is the clearest: MTV won't have the opportunity to do this again.

even more shocking than the boob was the fact that all those songs were popular about 8 years ago...

i also had a big problem with kid rock. it's one thing to wear something with an american flag pattern. more power to you. but to cut a hole in an actual american flag and wear it? ridiculous. idiots shouldn't attempt to be patriotic.

funny thing was the local cbs station here in nashville was apparently bombarded with calls. uh, the local station has no say in what is aired... bunch of local rubes.

Jackson's unscripted flash of flesh during Sunday's Super Bowl halftime send Internet surfers seeking pictures of the snafu in greater numbers over a 24 hour period than searches for "September 11" or Madonna's kiss with Britney Spears.

Jackson's Web popularity rocketed to the top of the charts on Web portals owned by Terra Lycos and Yahoo Inc. moments after the shocking finale to the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday in Houston.

"The now infamous 'wardrobe malfunction' ... has proved to be the most-searched event in the history of the Internet," said Aaron Schatz, who compiles a daily list of top search phrases for Lycos.

Singer Justin Timberlake, at the end of a duet with Jackson, tore off part of her black leather bustier, exposing one bare breast. The incident prompted a federal probe into indecency on television.
