It's obviously early in the game, but every time the ball has been passed to Melo he has turned it into an ISO situation and shot the ball. Missed them all including a dunk.

Looks like the Knicks are going to be battling for that 1st overall pick. Not because they're tanking, but because they have about 5 players on their roster that belong in the NBA.

Feeling pretty happy to have Smith

Feeling a little bad that Cuban played them so hard.

How awful it must be to be a Knicks fan. Their forum topics are... Frank turns ankle, Joachim Noah mentoring Kanter(lol), Hornaceck starring as IT the clown, and Phil jackson will trade Melo for a bag of chips. I'd feel sorry for them but I rather enjoy taking a giant dump all over New York.

Some of their posters still call DSJ trash. It's sad, really. I think Frank will be ok in the long run, but it doesn't make things any better today.

@wojespn: Sources: Houston's been on phones today, feeling out agents on available point guards for possible 2-to-4 week stretch without Chris Paul.

Justin Anderson only got 3 min of play in 76'ers loss to Celtics. I always thought high side would be J. Crowder type but solid role player - doing the dirty work kind of guy.

@wojespn: Phoenix coach Earl Watson has been fired, league sources tell ESPN.

@wojespn: Suns owner Robert Sarver and GM Ryan McDonough meeting with assistant coaches now, sources tell ESPN. Jay Triano likely interim coach.

@wojespn: Sources: Suns dismissed three assistants w/ Earl Watson - Nate Bjorkgren, Mehmet Okur and Jason Fraser. Okur/Fraser were player development.

Bledsoes agent is Rich Paul....Noel re-signing, Bledsoe trade and Lebron signing next summer confirmed.

I do Powell and Seth for Bledsoe in a heartbeat but the Suns saying of course no.

Probably the Suns are going to ask any team interested in Bledsoe do swallow Knights awful contract too..

I dunno about that... the Suns are below the salary floor right now and they're at least a couple of years/big moves away from making a serious playoff push. I could see them holding firm on wanting a lottery pick for Bledsoe but I doubt they'll insist on attaching any sort of salary dump to the deal.

And FWIW, as much as I love Bledsoe's potential, I don't think he's a fit here.

TLR version

Detroit cons the citizens into paying $863 million for a privately-owned stadium
20,500 seats available.
Pistons tried to give away 20,000 tickets to fill the stadium.
Looks like under 3,000 people actually showed.
Ice for hockey is terrible.

Detroit citizens are paying about $1,300 each for a stadium that fans don't visit and players don't like.

@wojespn: As Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters, Anthony Davis MRI was negative. Another source tells ESPN that Davis will be day-to-day.

Markkanen would have never fit here. He's over 6' tall and would cause us to have matchup problems.

Sorry, I haven't had my morning caffeine yet.

Don't apologize. Great and very true joke.

Wouldn't have been fair to walk in the foot steps of Dirk, but boy he is better than expected so far.

I think what is most surprising is Markannen's rebounding. If he can knock down his shots like most thought he would, the rebounding is what will propel him along. The biggest question is how is his defense? I don't watch Bulls games, as I'd imagine most of us here don't.

@NBA_Math: After their victory over the Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now 3-1. Here's how all their players stack up in TPA:

One fewer guy to watch for in the draft in the coming month. Joel Berry II loses at FIFA to his teammate. Throws fit and punches door. Breaks hand. Out 4 weeks.

@wojespn: Reporting with @ZachLowe_NBA: Alibaba's Joe Tsai purchasing 49% of Brooklyn Nets with future option to become owner.

@ZachLowe_NBA: As @wojespn and I report, valuation is Nets deal is $2.3B. Prokhorov wanted more than HOU fetched, and got it

MP went all-in, didn't win a championship, got bored, and is already selling the team. I know money talks, but the NBA should really be more selective as to who owns a team. A guy like MP made his money off the backs of the Russian people during the collapse of the USSR. He has incredibly corrupt blood in his veins, and I'm glad he'll be gone.

@ShamsCharania: Sources: The NBA has granted Boston an $8.4M disabled player exception for the loss of Gordon Hayward for the season. The DPE expires March 10.

To Mavs fans, for whom it could be a long season:

Follow Porzingis. He's worth watching. (And if you can do so without having to listen to Walt Frazier's inane drunken rhyming, so much the better.)

KP in the middle of a very hot streak right now, with 5 of 6 games >30pts (Boston held him to 12 with constant double-teaming). Hit some insanely long 3-pointers v. the Nuggets the other night as if he were taking 15-footers, the kind that would've turned Steph Curry's head.

He is also a defensive presence with that height and reach. You can see opposing players looking over their shoulders when they go inside.

He is young, still developing, needs more strength; neither his shot nor his game are the thing of beauty that Dirk's were in his prime; but with Jackson and Anthony both departed, KP has a chance to be Dirk 2.0 in a few years, barring injury or MSG-induced psychosis.

For admirers of Dirk, it could bring a sentimental tear to your eye.

He's damn good. It was laughable when people thought the NYK would trade him. I know we can't put it past that franchise to do something like that, but man, you could see it last year. He's taking the next step with Carmelo gone. Hardaway is coming around for them as well. Not a far cry to say they will finish above us in overall rankings, making our pick that much better, and not having to hope they screw it all up again (thanks to them for DSJ!).

Well we've known KP has had the potential to be great for a while.

The bigger surprise among tall white euros that can shoot is Lauri. I think most of us are going to be wrong about him. I remember the trade rumor of Wes/9 for Rubio/7. I'm glad we have Smith Jr, but that trade doesn't look so silly in hindsight.
