The Stars were due for a loss bc they totally stole that game in Edmonton on Friday.

It's such a shame when they put that kid Smith in goal, and he gives up only 1 goal until 44 seconds left when you take a dump penalty. You need to give the kid more support than 1 goal on the road fellas.

Either way, it seems all Dallas sports teams are destined to suck here for a while.

And the Ducks are trying to run the table and set a record. Grrrrrr......

So the Mavs march into downtown Phx and the Stars are a few miles away in Glendale to face the Yotes...

Will Phoenix own us in two diff buildings in the same city tonight?

Four Stars on All-Star Ballot

November 10, 2006

By DallasStars.com Staff

The National Hockey League released its fan ballot today for the 2007 All-Star Game, to be held at American Airlines Center in Dallas on January 24, and four Dallas Stars -- center Mike Modano, left wing Brenden Morrow, goaltender Marty Turco and defenseman Sergei Zubov -- are hoping to don All-Star jerseys on their home ice.
For the first time ever, the NHL-All Star fan balloting process will be entirely digital. From November 15 through January 2, fans around the world can vote for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game on-line at DallasStars.com, as well as NHL.com.

"It's a honor being named on the All-Star ballot and it would be an even bigger honor to play in the game in our home building, in front of our fans," said Modano. "Having the game here in Dallas will be wonderful, it's a great reward for the hockey fans in Dallas and I can't wait for it to get here. Hopefully all four of us are selected to play in the game so the Dallas Stars are well-represented."

The 2006-07 season marks the 19th year in which fans will determine the starting lineups for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender for each team. The three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from each Conference receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups. Each of the 30 NHL Clubs has at least two representatives on the ballot. COLD-fX, the Official Immune Enhancer of the NHL and NHLPA, is the title sponsor of the online balloting process, while and 2K Sports, a leading publisher next generation sports video, is the presenting sponsor.

"It would be a huge honor to play in an All-Star Game in your own building, and it's pretty safe to say there's only one opportunity in most careers to do that," said Turco. "I know that the party and festivities are going to meet the high Texas standards, and I'd love the chance take my net and play in front of mostly our fans."

Modano has skated in six NHL All-Star Games, including the last two midseason classics -- 2003 in South Florida and 2004 in Minnesota. Through 16 games this season, Modano has posted eight goals and four assists for 12 points, good for first on the club in goals and tied for first in points. He is also tied for first in the league in game-winning goals (3). With 493 career goals and 1,195 career points, Modano is on pace this season to move into first place on the all-time goals and points lists by an American-born player in NHL history (Joe Mullen, 502 goals; Phil Housley, 1,232 points).

Looking to be selected to his first NHL All-Star Game, Morrow is currently tied for first on the club in points (12) and game-winning goals (3), second in goals (6) and tied for third in assists (6). His three game-winning goals rank him tied for first in the NHL in that category. Morrow is coming off a 2005-06 season that saw him set new career highs in points (65) and assists (42).

Turco has appeared in last two NHL All-Star Games (2003, 2004) and currently ranks first in the NHL in wins (10) and goals-against-average (1.84), second in save percentage (.931) and tied for sixth in shutouts (1). In his first All-Star Game in 2003, Turco earned the win for the Western Conference after stopping 10-of-11 shots in regulation and turning aside 3-of-4 shootout attempts.

Zubov, who finished third in the Norris Trophy voting last season as the league's best defenseman, has appeared in three NHL All-Star Games (1998, 1999, 2000) in his career. Zubov has recorded one goal and six assists for seven points thus far in 2006-07, ranking him tied for third on the club in assists and tied for sixth in scoring.

The 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration will feature live national broadcasts of the Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills event on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and the NHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 24 on VERSUS, starting at 7 p.m. CT. NHL RADIO on Westwood One will provide exclusive national radio coverage in the United States and Canada, while Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio each will provide radio play-by-play coverage of the game

Finally!!! the Ducks lost a game in regulation. They had at least a point in their first 16 games. Tonight, the Stars finally get a game back.

holy crap the Ducks are good. but....everyone has to slip up sooner or later.

Just a reminder folks. The Stars are finally back tonight after 5 days off.

I got invited to a Suite at the AAC for this one. Gonna be there with the snobs, yelling obscene things and acting like an idiot, making them feel uncomfortable.

GO STARS.

7:30pm on FSN

The Islanders have also had 5 days off. Should be a slow start for both teams and maybe another low scoring affair. Then again not everyone loves goalie battles like I do....

5 days off & they go get blanked by the Islanders & Rick "Undeserved Absurd 15-Year Contract He Can Ever, Ever Live Up To" DiPietro. Outshoot the opponent by a wide margin again & can't freaking get one through. This sucks.

Big middle finger to the leagure for scheduling 5 days off.

Im tired, and Ill review the game tomorrow. Lets just say this:

1. Ive never been to a shutout before. That sucked

2. The Stars totally outplayed them the VAST majority of the game, and got nothing for it.

3. If DiPietro would've played like that in the olympics, the U.S. would've won the gold.

oh and the Ducks are getting the crap beat out of them right now 7-3. So SUCK IT.

im going to bed

No I wasn't there....I found it on dallasstars.com somewhere

Good win tonight. Good to get some goals finally!

and Stefan getting to shove it in his old teams face

Turco was a little shaky tonight, but Ribeiro came through big and Mikey mo got a power play goal. Im happy. Go Mavs Go Stars.

Geez the Thrashers have a lot of creative offensive talent. If their D men ever figure out how to play, they'll be REALLY good.

There are only 8 teams in the NHL that have scored fewer goals than the Stars have (50).

6 of those teams are in the West.

Even in todays "new" NHL, the East is still the skill players/scorers conference.

I didn't realize this before. This concerns me. The 3 goals in 4 games are what's to blame for this partly. But still. Good to see 5 goals tonight. bc 2.78 GPG is not going to get the job done down the road.

geez I know you guys are excited about the big win for the Stars tonight, because the flow of a basketball game lends itself to hockey fandom and everything, plus they play in the same building. It's more physical, requires more skill and endurance, is just as exciting , and plus the Stars have a better chance of competing than any other Dallas area team....

but please, stop posting so many hockey opinions.

geez. I know they're extremely deserving but the Stars will be around all season long. just chill.....

Heh. If it helps, Flacolaco, I've got my tickets to the LA game over Thanksgiving break & I'll definitely post on that when I actually get to watch a game. Knowing nothing about the ATL game & not having seen highlights, I will say: I shouldn't be so happy they graced us w/more than one goal. And I suppose we'll have to give the Stefan experiment a little more time...FINE. *sigh*

The problem is (and this is Dave Tippets problem now too) is that I LIKE Stefan. I've watched him play (what like 6?) games now, and the young man really tries to get after it.

Tonight he finally did it on the score sheet.

If he continues, what does Tipp do? You have to put Ott back out there when he's ready....

does hagman get sacrificed? Halpern? naa they're playing well.

Everyones playing hard. This roster is so deep. too deep?

Not the worst thing in the world.

Turco sucked tonight

Stars are hurting.

3 tough games this week coming up. They're slowly slipping down the standings to .500 and about 7th place.

Gonna be a long winter.

Crazy game, as per usual when we play the Avs. I see we have our first "lower body injury" report of the season. Isn't it a bit early? Tipp is so paranoid. Anyway, I was in class, what happened to Morrow?

Im not sure. I missed that particular little stretch.

It was frantic tv tonight with the Mavs and Stars, and then i was trying to fit in some Studio 60 and Heroes, but I need to see Heroes again.

Anyway, they said Morrow is day to day, so it could be worse. But he was the man in the first with two HUGE goals.

Crazy crazy stressfull games in Mavs and Stars tonight.

But we got the W's!

I will be rockin out in Section 326 at the AAC tonight for my first game of the season. Hopefully it'll be a good show. Give me 5-2 Dallas. Leht's Go Stars!

So much fun! I really miss going to games. I was happy there were so many goals...I've never seen a hat trick in person before...it was really cool to hear the whole arena scream BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.

Sadly it's time to go back to cold, miserable Boston. I'm going to catch a Bruins game...will be interesting to see how different the atmosphere is.

Yeah you picked a good one to go to. Last wed was the 1-0 shutout of Nashville. That was fun too, but it's not quite the same as seeing 5 goals, and a hat trick.

bit dissappointed at the number of hats on the ice, but then again, I was impressed with Dallas hockey fans knowing enough to even do that as fast as they did without being told it was a hat trick yet....

and don't forget to go vote for Morrow, Zubov, Marty, and Modano at NHL.com or dallasstars.com people!

well Marty Turco is a worthless piece of shite and as far as I'm concerned he and Mike Vanderjagt can go have a drink together and some gay sex.

Red Wings play a crappy game and get lucky....

the Stars hit 3 posts, and the first Chicago goal was complete BS that was tipped with a high stick, they reviewed it, and still missed the call.

all that being said, the Stars look like absolute dog shite right now, and the power play makes my insides bleed

this team is officially heading in the toilet.

They need their captain back in the line-up.

They need to score goals early in games.

they need their goaltenders to pull their heads out of their asses

They need their penalty kill, which had been great, to go back to great

and they need to SCORE ON THE POWER PLAY.

I am going to 5 or 6 home games in December, and I'm actually not really looking forward to it much

the only reason I dont change my signature....is bc the Mavs are still on the winning streak

Funny Razor blog....
Quote:
WHO'S THE TOP #9 IN DALLAS?

Tony Romo is trying to mow Mo's lawn with all this awe-shucks good guy demeanor and blonde-bomshell girly-friend linkage.

So let's see what a closer comparison reveals:

Years in a Dallas uni
- Modano - 14 as "the man"
- Romo - what? 4 years, 3.3 with a clip board

Body
- Modano - lean, sinewy and tanned like an underwear model
- Romo - lanky, pasty and with the muscle tone of an accountant

Best Asset
- Modano - mercurial speed with hands to match
- Romo - less than Vick but better than Bledsoe agility and wicked accuracy

Girlfriend (rumored or otherwise)
- Modano - Willa Ford (pipes of gold, smoking hot but apparently not much of a dancer)
- Romo - Jessica Simpson (voice of an angel, Daisy Duke-alicious body but supposedly not much of a thinker)

Wears #9 for?
- Modano - Gordie Howe
- Romo - Roy Hobbs (he's make believe you dunce!)

Impersonations
- Modano - Jon Heder
- Romo - a dead on Brett Favre (minus all the wins that matter and the painkillers)

Franchise Records
- Modano - games played, points, goals, powerplay goals, shorthanded goals, game winning goals, assists...etc.
- Romo - most touchdown passes on Thanksgiving by a Cowboy QB (sorry Bill but if that isn't grounds for lathering on the "anointing oil" I don't know what is)

Salary
- Modano - lots
- Romo - not so much

Championships
- Modano - one
- Romo - none

Italian quotient
- Modano - owned an Italian Villa style home in Highland Park
- Romo - ?

Rating
- Modano - shooting % 16% (doesn't lead NHL)
- Romo - quarterback rating 115 (leads NFL)

Favorite Target
- Modano - anything the Kings or Coyotes stick in Goal
- Romo - Jason Whitten (it would be that Owens clown if he would dip his hands in epoxy)

Covers of D Magazine
- Modano - 2?
- Romo - 0

I'll think even Jerry would agree, advantage Modano. Oh, and apologies to Rangers #9 Hank Blaylock, sorry bro but you're out of season.

Modano is the greatest #9 to ever walk the dallas stage. Romo would have to have a haal of fame career to be moentioned in the same breath. Modo was drafted # 1 at 18 years old and has been a star eversince. He is th greatest american born hockey player ever. Love Romo but he just has the wrong #

Saw a quote from Jeff Halpern in the Washington Post today that I liked. Talking about the difference between playing in Dallas versus in Washington... "Coming here from Day One, it's been we want to win the Stanley Cup," Halpern said. "Every little thing is about winning the Cup. I love getting yelled at after the losses this year. Every loss is like the end of the world."

I am actually really proud to be a fan of an organization that has that attitude. A few years ago when the Stars lost three in a row & everyone was freaking out about firing Army & Tipp & holding a fire sale & I remember an interview I believe w/Stu(uuu) Barnes & he was like, he'd never played somewhere where losing three in a row was such a crisis. Some teams regularly lose 10-12 games in a row.

I know they've hit a rough patch now & they haven't done much in the playoffs lately, but I'm just really glad that they always give us a reason to hope. Otherwise it'd be like...oh, I don't know...being a Rangers fan.
