It was... it was. One day, I'll tell my grand children the same story making sure to watch their eyes lighting up with joy while they beg me to "tell it again grandpa...tell it again"

Just finished the last season of Sons of Anarchy. I still can't believe Jax shot his own mother.

How's about it for some good acting? How's about Bruce Willis in "Pulp Fiction" in the back of Esmerelda's cab? Nice.

Recently watched movies:

Chernobyl Diaries- or Chernobyl Diarrhea. Seriously awful and not scary.

Cabin in the Woods- Decently entertaining for a "fun" type horror. A movie for people who truly appreciate the genre.

I just saw Cloud Atlas last night and I was blown away. I see it's only getting tepid reviews from critics now, but I think it's one of those movies like Blade Runner or 2001: A Space Odyssey that will be hailed as a masterpiece in 10-15 years.

I don't want to have to see Cloud Atlas, but I think I have to. It seems every single person says the same thing about it. ("A lot of people will HATE this movie, but I LOVED it.")

I wouldn't mind seeing Cloud Atlas, but boy did it bomb this weekend. Projected to make 9.4 million total for three days...yikes. Problem is the 102 million dollar budget. Seems like sci fi movies do much better in the 30 range these days like a Looper or District 9.

Not surprising. It was always destined to be a "cult" movie, hence the Wachowskis financing it themselves.

I thought it was stunningly awful. Incredibly well acted but the script was terrible. It doesn't have a plot or an ending. It's essentially a 3 hour episode of Seinfeld without the humor. It's a movie about nothing

So I finally got around to seeing TDKR . . . yeah it was dog shit. So so so so so so bad. Just so many things that made me question what Nolan was even thinking. The whole Commish Gordon just happens to stumble upon Bane's lair . . . the whole Bane/Tate mythos . . . Bane's voice . . . the "twist" with Tate . . . I liked JGL, but everything else stunk.

Honestly, I am sure someone on this board could tell me how I am wrong, and how each glaring plot hole was really intended, but why bother? If you have to explain it to me, it is a bad movie.

Plus the pacing was horrible.

The Prometheus honest trailer is genius. That movie was basically constructed of plot holes.

Show me a movie without plot holes and I will show you what's in Mr. Wallace's magic briefcase. Say what you will, but TKDR/Prometheus storylines are at least somewhat unique. Storytelling in my opinion is the most important thing in a movie.

There are plenty of movies with coherent plots that only have a few loose ends here and there. Honestly, I didn't hate either movie, but they have some severe flaws in their so-called storytelling....especially Prometheus. Not much of a story if you change the movie's continuity from scene to scene.

Do you actually think that counts as a plot hole?

No. It represents the idea of a mysterious object that may or may not exist. Like a movie without a plot hole.

Hell no to Les Mis? Reviews were pretty good, and it won on Christmas. Hate musicals or something?

I saw Django this afternoon, and it surpassed my expectations. DiCaprio steals the show, and I am NOT a DiCaprio fan. At all... Last 20+ minutes are kinda redundant, but it doesn't steal away from the rest of the movie. Wow.

Django was great as expected, but yeah, I don't think the last 20 minutes were necessary. The plot could have been reworked to remove them. Everyone was great. Foxx was great, Waltz was great, DiCaprio was great, Jackson was great, Washington was great.

I love musicals, but based on the previews for Les Mis, I don't think I could get past the absurd camera angles.

Agree on Django - top notch performances all the way around. Will Smith originally turned down the role of Django - man, i cannot see him in that role AT ALL.

Tarantino's violence has never bothered me, it's all so cartoony. But there are a few realistic scenes that are kind of cringe-inducing (mainly due to the realism and knowing stuff like that actually happened).

Regarding last 20 minutes:

SPOILER
SPOILER

I originally agreed on the last 20 minutes (didn't see the point), but it really does show Django's evolution into a quick-thinking, smooth-talking bounty hunter (Shultz did all the talking in the past). He duped those australian guys with his wits alone (well, then some guns and dynamite).

Well I definitely think those last 20 minutes were for those who wanted some action. I felt Inglorious Basterds was a bit too "talky" and Tarrantino probably wanted to appease the actionites a bit. Although I thought Django had a good mix of action and talking overall. I agree about seeing Django's transformation in those last 20, but they could have easily revealed that sooner. Either way it is still an awesome movie and perhaps best of the year.

Saw Les Mis yesterday. Long and nothing new if you're familiar with it but pretty well done. I give it a solid B.

Zero Dark Thirty worth it for the final sequence alone.

Silver Linings Playbook- Ok...good performances in a decent-ish quirky chick flick.

Zero Dark Thirty- Worth watching just for the subject matter. Kinda one dimensional characters and a little long. Last sequence was indeed heart pounding.

Lincoln- Gosh, I'm a huge Civil War buff and could not get into this one. Talk about dull. I suppose worth watching for the good acting and actually decent dialogue. Needed a better script overall though.

Django is still the best of the Oscar noms that I've seen imho.
