GDT game 9: Mavs (1-7) at Clippers (4-2) 7:30 ESPN/FSSW
Nationally televised game which means my League Pass won't work out. Wonder if ESPN regrets signing us up for this national game after our start.
Go otter!

I signed up for League Pass when I moved from Dallas to LA. It lasted me one season. I think I had the opportunity to watch maybe 10 games. Total BS. Granted, I had the online version only. It was total BS that I couldn't watch a game if I didn't start watching it right on time or within like 5 minutes.
Get home a little late about 15 minutes into the game? Well, tough. Wait 3 hours for the game to be completed and then uploaded to the servers. By then I was fast asleep getting ready for the next day.
One of the biggest money dumps in my life.

@EarlKSneed: Seth Curry, Dorian Finney-Smith & Josh McRoberts are out vs. the Clippers. Dennis Smith Jr. is questionable, but he's expected to play.

Clippers look really good. Mavs have not looked good.
I'll be watching the match ups of DSJ vs. Beverly and Noel vs. Blake/Deandra. Can they hang tough? My bet would easily be with DSJ over Noel but you never know-el.

DSJ "questionable but will play" means his leg is sore and should sit, but won't let Rick completely bench him. Look for him to play like crap and max out at 18mpg

@ESefko: Today is Maverick two-way guard Gian Clavell's 7th day with the big club. He has 38 more to use this season. Has had 1 practice with Legends

The Mavs will win this game simply for the satisfaction of making DeAndra regret his decision to play alongside CP0; thus, St. Noel will have w huge game tonight....
Mavs - 101
Clips - 100

@mavstats: Mavs starters vs Clippers: DSJ, HARRIS, Wes, Barnes and Dirk. It's Devin's 1st start since Nov. 29, 2014 & 4th start in his last 250 games.
@BallinWithBryan: Smith and Harris have played together a total of nine minutes so far this season.
@BallinWithBryan: Mavs had 26 different starting lineups last season. They’re up to five in the first nine games of the season.

Well, Rick knew that Teo isnt playing...no way he plays Dirk at center with a Teo-Jordan combo on the court...

Good find by DSJ. Too bad it was Wes cutting to the hoop who can't elevate and finish.

I still like Smith being decisive even if the plays don't work out.

Smith's other huge problem is that he passes to players that suck monkey nuts.

Oh Espn... Talked up how valuable these minutes are for DSJ and how it's not meaningless etc etc... and RC immediately called TO and put Withey in for DSJ.

Missed the game, but I'm glad to see we got the win...
@BallinWithBryan: Before a question could be asked, Carlisle chimed in: “Turnovers and rebounds. That’s the biggest thing."
@BallinWithBryan: To reporters, Carlisle on the reason for starting Devin Harris: “I have my reasons for doing it, and I’ll just leave it at that."

Our schedule is brutal, and by the time we could actually start winning games with any regularity, hopefully they realize that this is our chance to find our next Dirk, in the last lottery with the old rules. Gotta seize that opportunity.

As much as I love Harris starting, I get the sense Carlisle has lost this team. You can tell he doesn't want to do this on purpose tanking. We talk all of the time about disgruntled players and rarely about disgruntled coaches. He definitely seems that way.

I'm not sure it's "on purpose" at this point. I generally think this roster will not win many games. Curry should help, but doubtful to move the needle. A lot of middle tier teams got better, teams with youth took steps forward, the West is stacked and our schedule tough. I think we are headed to a sure fire top 5 pick type of season. One more impact guy to pair with DSJ, and start from there. Is Carlisle the right guy for the job? Does he want to go through it?

The problem wit RC is he tinkers too much. If we are not a good team then let the young guys play 35-40 minutes and see what they can do...he doesn't do that.
He TRIES to win, but in reality its almost like he is pretending that he wants to win while making the most frustrating substations and decision.
There def. seems to be some sort of disconnect somewhere.

I don't think he is trying to win, but I also don't think he wants to develop the youth the way we want him to.
And NN playing 17 minutes is just a waste of a talented young center.

To be fair, Noel was terrible. 4pts, 4 reb and worst +/- on the the team

Not paying Noel max money might be the best move we have made in a few years.

And I agree he isn't that good, but the team put the writing on the wall the day training camp started. If you're going to be butt hurt about a player not accepting a contract then trade or waive him. Just poor asset management at its finest. This tweener playing him is a waste of everyone's time IMO.
At least Kleber got a good run, but it won't matter if he gets 10 minutes or less next game.

Dude may legitimately be the HAN that Smith may think he is.
Even if he isn't a HAN, he is not as good as he thinks he is. Completely lacks fundamentals and doesn't seem to care to learn. Can be dominant in one game and the worst player on the floor the next. Add injuries to that, and you don't have a recipe for a guy who should earn more than 10mill.

Depends on if you're trying to win or trying to tank...

This!!!
I honestly feel we simply have too many vets on this team and Rick can't help himself but play them because that is what he feels gives him the best chance to win on a nightly basis.
Rick is clearly out of his comfort zone but knowing the type of coach he is it is virtually impossible for him to play players who will be part of the future but can't get an immediate win.
Rick is simply a "Win-Now" coach and this team needs a youth developer like Larry Brown.

It seems to me that RC will come to a crossroads with Noel by about game 20 or so. If NN is not getting consistent playing time somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 mpg, then he will likely become the whiney butt he was in Philadelphia. That could cause chemistry/morale issues with some of the younger players, and a potential long-term problem with personnel. Also, if he goes back to being "Nettling Nerlens" then his trade value might be diminished. The MBT needs to make a decision on his future and trade him early in the season if it looks like his contribution will be less than 20pmg. .

I agree NN is not looking too good but has had some flashes.
The problem is that there is no consistency with anything Rick does. Play DSJ Barnes and NN 35-40 per game and see what they can do. Keep that up for 20-30 games and see what the results are. NN can barely warm up before he is pulled and yes sometimes its his fault but since we are losing anyway let him play through it.

Call me crazy but if I think I'm a max player, the best way to make a case for myself is to play my best against a front court with 2 other max players. Hell just play good in general against anyone and ppl will talk about you. 8 games in and he's so butthurt by low minutes that he's killing his value playing like poo? I just don't buy it, I'm sure he is frustrated but if anything he should be out there overamped and trying to prove something, he looks disinterested and when he is engaged he looks absolutely unremarkable. So either he is the take my ball and go type of person or he's just not good. Neither of which I want to pay.
Also I'm warming up to the idea of replacing RC but I'd rather do it with a new young coach rather than going to last generation coaches. The problem with that is for every Brad Stevens there are prolly 20+ Fred Hoiberg's.
