No, the Mavs do NOT!!! For that matter, you can't even really compare the two sports because one has a salary cap and one does NOT... Who knows what Mark would do to win if he had the opportunity that George has in NY... George has the option to out bid every other team in baseball for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER HE WANTS and he does so religiously... He does NOT build up a farm system, he does NOT plan for the future, he only BUYS BUYS BUYS!!! That Visa commercial was funny, but right on the money too...
You might want to look at the youth on the Mavericks and their track record for passing on guys before asking questions like that!!!

Right. I hadn't liked a series like this one in many years. Seriously, it was very good.

No, the "curse" is that they will not win another World Series. Boston has been to the World Series since the "curse"'s inception. So they are 4 wins away from being able to claim that.

RE: The Massacre of the Year Official Thread
(from the New York Times)
October 21, 2004
For Yankees' Faithful, a Defeat Beyond Belief
By MICHELLE O'DONNELL
For New Yorkers who root for the Yankees, until last night every season began with the fundamental belief that their team would win. And win it did, give or take an occasional loss: the 2001 World Series to the Arizona Diamondbacks, or a 2002 playoff series to the Anaheim Angels (in four games) or the 2003 World Series to the Florida Marlins.
But this was nothing short of an article of faith: The New York Yankees would never, ever lose to the Boston Red Sox - when it really mattered.
That faith crumbled last night, as the Bronx Bombers squandered a three-games-to-none lead in the American League Championship Series and dropped four straight games to the rival Red Sox.
While in Boston there was pure elation, across the New York region- from the House that Ruth Built in the Bronx, to the flatlands of Brooklyn to the suburbs of New Jersey - die-hard Yankees fans reacted with disbelief as Boston slammed in run after run to win 10-3 in an unprecedented comeback for a berth in the World Series.
"This is awful, devastating," said Russel Watson, 25, of South Orange, N.J., as he stood outside the Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant there for the last out of the game. "Now I can't watch ESPN or read the sports pages. The Yankees news will be too painful.''
Many shared that devastation.
"I would rather go to the gym than watch Houston or the Cardinals play Boston in the Series, and I haven't gone to the gym in four years,'' said Gary Portnoy, a 35-year-old electrician who watched the game with other Yankees fans at Time Out sports bar on the Upper West Side.
It was an inglorious end for a team with the most World Series championships - 26 - and the fattest payroll in baseball. And what an end: losing four consecutive games to a team that some say is cursed.
But more than that, the outcome was particularly painful for Yankees fans whose collective identity is more in line with the bravado of the grown man from Queens who arrived at the stadium dressed like a baby in mock Red Sox regalia - complete with pacifier - shouting "Who's your daddy?" than it is with losing, especially to Boston.
Even as the Red Sox took an early and commanding lead, Yankees fans refused to think the unthinkable.
"C'mon, we can't lose. It's Game 7," said Teri Buch, a teacher from Manhattan who watched the game at the News Room bar across from Yankee Stadium after she hadn't bothered buying a ticket to Game 7, assuming the Yankees would clinch the series in six games or less. (Ms. Buch does have a ticket to the World Series.)
"We always have a ghost on our side," Ms. Buch uttered in reverential reference to Babe Ruth just before David Ortiz cracked his home run in the first inning. "It would be horrible, but we're not going to lose."
As Boston's runs continued to pile up, that unwavering confidence began to sound like denial.
At the Gaslight Brewery in South Orange, after the Red Sox extended the lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning, Mr. Watson said he was confident the Yankees would come back. "We are not out of the game yet by any means," Mr. Watson said. "I'm not worried. But if it is this way at the top of the ninth, then I will be."
Like fans across the region acting out lucky tics, Adam Castro, 25, a firm believer that the mystique of the Yankees' pinstripes wins games, began his game-watching ritual by putting his back to the television set at the St. Marks Ale House in the East Village. That was the way he happened to be watching when Aaron Boone hit a home run to win the league series against the Red Sox last year.
After Ortiz's home run, Mr. Castro shifted seats, then again went back to his first seat after Johnny Damon's grand slam in the second inning.
Other fans across the city were feeling similarly unmoored as the Yankees continued to fall further behind.
In Washington Heights, in the fourth inning, Julian Kaiser, a photographer, sat in bed in his Yankees pajamas and allowed himself to consider losing. "The worst thing is forever we'll be associated with a 3-0 deficit," he said. "That we blew it. It's not the end of the world, but almost."
Another Boston run was swatted in - who could keep track which one? - and Mr. Kaiser said: "Hope springs eternal."
Down at St. Marks Ale House in the East Village, Jonny Kaloudis, 25, said: "The worst would be losing to Boston fans because they're such ignorant, bitter people. They're so used to losing, all they have is hate. There's no humility. That's what we want to see. We want to see humility."
Humility surfaced, but from unfamiliar quarters.
In the sixth inning, denial on the part of Yankees fans turned to disgust, and some ticket-holders actually began leaving the stadium.
"It's depressing,'' said Joe Goldstein, 34, a self-employed entrepreneur from White Plains, as he left with his father-in-law. "They're not even swinging the bat. Twenty-five million a year in salary and they're just not playing."
In a display of how deeply they were shaken, many Yankees fans left the stadium after the game jeering and booing.
In the East Village, at least one Yankees fan expressed grudging respect for the Red Sox. "It's the best baseball comeback of all time,'' said Griffin Reilly, 24, a mechanical engineer from the Lower East Side. "After this, the Red Sox better win the World Series.''
But other Yankees fans held true to the belief that despite winning the league championship, the Red Sox - who have not won a World Series since 1918 - remained under the Curse of the Bambino, which dates to 1920, when the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees.
Russel Watson, the fan from South Orange, said: "All I have now is that in two weeks, I'll be able to read and hear about how the Red Sox lost the World Series. That's what the curse is all about. Not them beating the Yankees, but losing the World Series."

I enjoyed when the boston fans that were left in the park shouted
"WHO'S YOUR CADDY ..... WHO'S YOUR CADDY ..... WHO'S YOUR CADDY"
A-ROD's looked like he was about to cry. Enjoy the golf Yankees.

ARod can blow me. I have hated that guy since his last season in Texas. It is all about ARod in his mind. That was made painfully clear during his time in Texas.
Suck it loser. You have still not won a championship and if all is right in sports you never will. ARod is a baby.

RE: The Massacre of the Year Official Thread
The funny thing about that play was that A-Rod hit the pitcher's glove so hard that it actually fell 90% off before he could grab it and put it back on... Then A-Rod tried to actually explain that it was the simple motion of running that hit the glove and knocked the ball out!!!
Classic stuff!

funny story about that a-rod play.
i was watching the game downstairs and my wife was upstairs. as soon as that happened, and i saw what a-rod did, i yelled, "you're such a bitch!!!"
my wife heard me and yelled down, "excuse me?!?!?"
i had to explain that i was yelling at the game...

its odd, because A-Rod usually leaves the purse in the dugout...how embarrassed must he be.
