Source: Joe Smith To Join Hawks
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4400517
Joe Smith has agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks, a source told ESPN's Ric Bucher.
The contract is reportedly worth the veteran's minimum.
Smith, the first overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, has played for nine teams.
The veteran forward picked Atlanta over Cleveland, where he played last season.

A little bit of an underperformer, and the same height as Thomas/Gooden, but he could have been a nice little scrapper combo 2/3 string center for us. Not big news but worth mentioning.

I would rather have Smith over Gooden and Thomas for sure. He's a solid player. Nice pickup for Atlanta.

"Here" as in Portland right? I don't know that anyone outside of Oregon really knows what it means.

I love the rip city ones. Never really been a fan of those old ones with Blazers going down the side.

'Motivated' Amaré back on court
"Suns forward Amaré Stoudemire returns from eye surgery to the court." Take 2.
Stoudemire went through his first on-court individual workout Tuesday since undergoing a minor operation six weeks ago to remove more fluid from his right eye. He initially had eye surgery in February to repair a detached retina.
Stoudemire was limited Tuesday to shooting and conditioning, Suns head athletic trainer
Aaron Nelson said. Stoudemire could begin playing pickup games in two weeks, Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said after learning that the All-Star had an "excellent" check-up Monday with eye surgeon Dr. Pravin Dugel.
Stoudemire was cleared to begin working out again three weeks ago and has done so each weekday morning with Nelson. That followed a 10-day stretch in which he had to lay face down for all but two hours of each day.
"He's extremely motivated to have a good year and preparing well for it," Kerr said.

Dodge ball fundraiser ...................
Here's a couple of hilarious videos just put up on DeronWilliams.net. They're both great, but the first one of Kyle Korver getting beaned in the head by Deron is great.

Better Houston then Dallas.
I find Iverson to be over rated.

Welcome to the club, brother. I've never been an AI fan at all. I mean yeah, he's definitely got ample talent to be a huge force in this league.. but that's kind of a null point when you've got his attitude and cockiness. He's on the same level of elitism as Kobe, he just doesn't have the skills.
The funny thing is this; At this point in his career he's hardly better than Jason Terry. He's a tad better on defense (sad), but Jet is a better scorer. Maybe we need a Jet practice rant to solidify this comparison.

Meet the new Rockets center-- and he's a killer
Rockets Reach Agreement With Mensah-Bonsu
Aug 20, 2009 7:04 PM EST
NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday the Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement on a contract with free agent forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who has yet to sign the deal.
Mensah-Bonsu's agent was not ready to confirm an agreement is in place, but he didn't dispute it either.
"We are working to get through a couple of minor things that I'm sure will get resolved," said John Greig, Mensah-Bonsu's agent, in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.
"We are waiting on some things from the league that could impact this."

I'd like to see Pops stick with a team but is he really going to get minutes behind Scola, Hayes, Landry, and Anderson?

It is definately a big + for the NBA, that mediocre teams can afford superstars. Clubs in other countries can only do so, when the owner is a billionaire, from russia or a Corporation or the organized crime.
Ahm, wait...

now that Iverson is headed to Charlotte, it seems like they'll have a logjam in the backcourt. Pencil in Augustin and Iverson, then you still have Felton and Bell. Maybe one of the latter two will be on there way here, and maybe that has some connection with the potential Carroll/Banks deal is being discussed, in order to make another move.

I feel Artest will prove to be a locker room cancer to the Lakers. Add to that the fact both Kobe and Artest are ball hogs this team could very well implode this season.

Artest is dumb. There are rumors that the Rockets tried a S&T with Ariza but the Lakers denied. Of course so they can tell Artest that they "just" can offer the MLE...
In a S&T Artest would have demand of course more...

Why would the respective owners agree to pay more money than they would pay otherwise?

Yeah. Artest is too stupid to see he should blame the Lakers and not the Rockets.
