Thanks a lot Cuban!!
if i was dirk i'd ask to be traded.
how can you not at least sign jj or tyson? and give dirk at least a chance at another one.
you found the formula and you throw it away?

You don't change champ roster, Cuban doesn't know it.

ya they got way older with odom and carter.
jj is so young and promising, as was stevenson, and its not like they got mad money.
but i agree, they got a lot older.

There is always next year. At this point, I'm just interested in watching our bench. Our starters are just too old.

another Cuban doubter. Cuban is doing a great thing for our franchise, had we re-signed JJ and Tyson, we still might not win the title this year anyways. Cuban and the FO put us in a position where we are still competing this year (or we can tank for the #1 pick, seeing how we're doing right now) AND we a chance at Deron AND Dwight.

We are competing this year????
Cuban underestimated how destructive his moves would be for this year's team.

looks a lot like 06/07, the year after we went to the finals for the first time..i think we lost the first 4 games back then (2 of them really bad) but went on to win 67 games. this is not the time to panic, it's way to early to judge this team.

So what if we don't win the title this year? I'd settle for the chance of dominating the next 5-10 years over a title in 2012 and waiting for 4 more years of terrible contracts to expire.

I have a feeling resigning JJ wouldn't help our defense.
But yes, thank you Cuban for bringing us a championship. As far as I'm concerned he gets a lot of leeway for the next few years.

i suppose there are a few positives that can be taken from our dismal start this year.
1. crab man is eating well.
2. dirk still looks quite tall.
3. our years of combined experience now with odom and carter could possibly be tops in the league.
4. the lockout is over.
im sure there are more

I've actually started to panic - but I'll wait a week or two to give time for the team to gel first before going into full panic mode...

Dirk should definitely ask to be traded if he ever wants to win a championship.

Always? I'm not sure. I haven't mapped out my posting behavior for the rest of eternity just yet. I'll let you know when I do.

I think they'll be alright once it starts to sink in that they are going to have to play with a sense of urgency and passion if they want to make the playoffs. What made them special last season wasn't really Chandler and his defensive chops. It was that the team never quit, even when key players got major injuries, and they just outworked their opponents because they wanted it more than anyone else. They have got to get that mindset back.

Well you need to get on the ball and get to mapping. Map while you are on the ball.

Lets be honest, Lamar fell into the front office's lap. Lamar asked to be traded to Dallas. Its not like they set out looking for him and had this secret plan other than freeing up money. I believe Cuban and Co. were looking ahead to next season by signing anything that had two legs for this season only and hoping for the best.

I'm sure there was a very similar thread where someone proclaimed "Dirk should ask to be traded" just last year...and the year before that...and the year before that.

That's exactly what happened really. The new CBA really limits roster flexibility when a team is over the cap, and luxury tax threshold. The Mavs FO is doing their best to put the best product on the court this year without completely dismantling any hope of future improvements with this team beyond this year. The Mavs tried to bring both players back on 1 year deals (Chandler being offered 20 million, in fact) but they are not going to give anybody outside an absolute superstar guaranteed money over multiple years, it's just not gonna happen heading into an offseason with a rich FA crop.
The Mavs have a chance next offseason to surround Dirk's last few great years with really, really, really talented players.
