Free agent rolled vehicle, was partially ejected

NEWARK, Ohio -- Free-agent forward Samaki Walker was charged with drunken driving after an accident earlier this month.

Walker, who spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, lost control of his vehicle about 20 miles east of Columbus on July 9, highway patrol dispatcher Pat Snelling said.

Walker's vehicle rolled over, partially ejecting him. He was treated at a hospital and later released. The hospital would not describe what, if any injuries, he sustained.

Walker told troopers he had two alcoholic drinks. Authorities are waiting for the results of a blood test. He was headed home when the accident happened.

He also was charged with failure to maintain control of a vehicle and not wearing a seat belt.

Walker could not be reached for comment. There is no telephone listing for him in Ohio or California. His arraignment is scheduled for July 30.

Walker played three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, then two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before joining the Lakers. Last season, Walker averaged 4.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and one assist.

Lakers spokesman John Black said he was not aware of the charges and had no further comment. Walker is an unrestricted free agent and is not expected to be re-signed

Earlier Rodman wanted to coach for the WNBA. How about lets let him coach that current team there. You have a great coach in Rodman and a great team.

Don Haskins charged with DWI

EL PASO, Texas (AP) Hall of Fame basketball coach Don Haskins is charged with driving while intoxicated.

The 73-year-old coach, whose Texas Western team upset Kentucky to win the NCAA championship in 1966, was pulled over by police Wednesday night. They saw him swerve out of his lane three times, police spokesman Javier Sambrano said.

''He was showing signs of being under the influence, and officers observed two open containers of alcohol in his car,'' Sambrano said.

Haskins was given sobriety tests both at the scene and at the police station, Sambrano said. Haskins spent about an hour in jail Thursday morning but was released after posting a $600 bond.

Telephone messages left at Haskins' El Paso home weren't immediately returned.

He fielded an all-black starting five against an all-white Kentucky team in the NCAA final, and Texas Western, now Texas-El Paso, won 72-65. The victory was credited with opening the doors of universities across the nation to black athletes.

Haskins posted a 719-353 at the school from 1961-1999. Under Haskins, the Miners had 17 20-plus win seasons. They won seven Western Athletic Conference championships, four WAC tournament titles and made 21 postseason tournaments 14 in the NCAA and seven in the 7 NIT.

I think Rick Barnes should get the vote though. Are there any players we are missing. We have three more roster spots to fill.
