Although right now it seems like doom and gloom, the pattern has been that just when you think all has gone down the toilet the front office pulls off something that is at least interesting and makes for a competitive team. I have no idea what that might be, but still.......

Yes, then we convince ourselves that Monta Ellis or Chandler Parsons will turn everything around for this franchise... Until they don't and we let them walk.
Rinse, repeat.

The problem is that there is still reasonable talent out there, and I'm afraid we will end up maxing them out. Now, of course, you have to fill out the roster, so even if we want to be bad, how would we fill out a roster without Dirk, so the combined money is 80 mill? With Mejri and Anderson on the roster, who earn pennies? I'm honestly curious. Would sign D-Leaguers to 10 million contracts? Give Deron the max? I have no idea.

Barea, Tyson, Parsons, pretty much the championship team. They publicly look to sign better players and expect their own roster to wait in case it falls through. NBA players talk.

Couple of reports out there are saying OKC is looking to dump the contracts of Kanter and Singler in order to make a run at Al Horford. They are looking to take back no money or contracts they could waive. Salaries come to about $22M. Grasping at straws....

Sure. Give us Cameron Payne and I'd do it. They can't trade a 1st till 2020 according to that article. I like Mitch McGary also, just go ahead and gift us McGary too and I'll feel better.

Let Dirk walk and see if the team is somehow good enough to win 5 games?

And despite all the bad news, there is still talent out there. Are the Mavs interested or has the decision been made to tank? I can see both sides of the argument, but whatever the case they still have to spend some money. Might as well try to be somewhat competitive and at the same time pick up some trade chips for somewhere down the line. I think even a $15M contract is tradeable in this market. So, come on Mavs spend some money!!!

I think it's entirely up to Dirk at this point. We could probably still compete for an 8th seed if we bring back Deron and Zaza. Is that good enough for Dirk or does he want to have a real chance at another ring? I guess we won't know until there's nothing but D-league level talent left on the market.

You're really discounting Tyson by saying that. Kanter is basically a faster and younger Kaman, but he has no defensive skill besides getting offensive rebounds. Which would totally make us collapse by the 2nd quarter of games.

Delly and Fournier now gone as well and as McMahon (?) reported, we are not interested in Howard and Biyombo. This really starts to look interesting.

This is actually the only unforgivable for me since 2011. Breaking up the Championship squad-understandable. We had a great shot at Chris Paul and Dwight Howard until Howard inexplicably opted back in. Odom was a mistake but forgivable(maybe do a background check next time? Couldn't been hard to find out he was freebasing) in that if right he would've really helped. I can see signing Parsons to the deal they did. Not any better options really. Almost worked with DeAndre. Even Rondo, which IMO is the second least forgivable decision, you can see why they went for it. Although it stripped us of precious assets.
Passing on Giannis is the inexplicable. To save 500,000. And then miss on Dwight anyway. It encapsulates so much of what has been wrong about Cubans approach as owner. Blase attitude toward the draft, development of players, managing assets and an overinflated sense of self-worth. Thank god we won in 2011.

Just have to laugh and enjoy how much of a trainwreck this is. It's Greek tragedy. Cuban is the tragic hero whose cockiness and obsession with lame cartoons caused his downfall.

I say fire Donnie and bring in Sam Hinkie. His "process" already seems more successful than the Mavs' process or lack thereof.

Watching NBA TV and Haywood is a co analyst. Man I miss him during his spurt here when he played on point. He was the one who shut down Bynum to help us sweep LA
Anyways there is still Lance Stephenson and Mahinmi out there. Plug those guys in to start, we can be pretty scrappy.

Seriously all I'm hoping for now is that we become a dumping ground for bad contracts in exchange for assets. Just waiting for someone to put me out of my misery. Like an idiot I keep hitting f5 hoping for something to give.

I see the route this can go as far as SF position. Cubes or Carlisle might be looking at Evans to do well next season. Trying him on NBA 2k online has actually helped me win more games taking Parsons off the list. Then putting Anderson and Evans at SF. Just a thought!
But do you think Cuban is thinking highly at Anderson and Evans starting the season off rotating the SF. While trying to spend big on Conley?

Love your enthusiasm my fellow Mavs fan, but Conley is gone. He just got offered the biggest contract in NBA history.

I could rephrase that saying or spend big money on Horford now? Bigger gamble to sign Deron back and max out Horford to wait on what he says?

I guess we could try to max Horford out, but I have a suspicion that he wants four years. I would only offer him two years, though the full max, if he wants it. Or maybe three years with a team option in the last year. Then we could sign Bazemore, resign Deron and make Dirk the sixth man.
PG: Deron
SG: Matthews
SF: Anderson
PF: Horford
C: Mejri
6th man: Dirk.
That's probably an improved roster, and I think a 6th, 7th seed. I want to add, I still want a full rebuild, but if Cuban doesn't want to do that, you have to pursue Horford at this point.

Horford is really the number 1 free agent Mavs should have gone for. Cause mix and matching Dirk into center or PF backup. Or starter of course. And then I was like Atlanta might outbid us. But now why not talk to Horford's agent? Donnie should clear even more space trading McGee to free up some more space. Get ballsy here because Horford can really start at PF here the rest of his career. I'd want him franchised.

Lance also a free agent I highly respect on the court watching. The guy once he's focused can be solid. And Carlisle is the main reason why I want to see him here. He can try to work with him.

Horford is a damn good player. But won't a better team/situation just offer him a comparable contract?
