Dal/Ind
Dallas Trade:
Outgoing
Marquis Daniels
6-6 SG from Auburn
9.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.1 apg in 23.5 minutes
Michael Finley
6-7 SG from Wisconsin
15.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.6 apg in 36.8 minutes
Incoming
Reggie Miller
6-7 SG from UCLA
14.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.2 apg in 31.9 minutes
Jonathan Bender
7-0 SF from Picayune HS (MS)
5.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 13.3 minutes
Scot Pollard
6-11 C from Kansas
3.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 0.4 apg in 17.6 minutes
From a Dallas perspective: Fin's contract off the books. Pollard can give them some minutes at backup 5. Bender has potential.
From a Indy perspective: Miller is retired. Pollard gave them nothing. Bender is injury prone, and has shown nothing since coming to the NBA but potential. Daniels has potential at the 1-3.
Indy would have Artest, Finley, Jackson, and Daniels at the swing postion. They really are getting much more than they would be giving up. The question would be the $$$$.
Dallas would still have Stack, Howard, Bender, KVH, and Terry who could play the swing positions.
Not my first choice for trades, but one that I think would help both teams.
What do you think?

Hence we should NOT do this trade.

RE: Dal/Ind
A reason Dallas might do this trade: Flexibility
Off the books by years end after the trade:
Pollard, KVH, Terry, TAW (questionable), Bradley, Miller, Esch
Contracts past next year: ~45M by first look : below the salary cap limit of 51M
Damp, Harris,Dirk, PPod, Howard, Bender, DJ, Stack
-- Bender, Stack, DJ off the next year. Base of team Dirk, Damp, Howard, Harris all long term signed.

RE: Dal/Ind
Why would Indiana want 2 shooting guards? They have Artest and Jackson as starters with Jones and Granger as backups.

RE:Dal/Ind
artest is not a shooting guard, especially now after his hiatus.. have you guys seen him? goodness, hes huge
and fin would provide 'veteran leadership' for indiana since reggie is gone
unless they are counting on jamal tinsley, stephen jackson, ron artest, or jermaine oneal to be their leader haha =\

They can get a leader for less than 50 mill i am sure. Also there is nothing funny about o'neal being the leader.

RE: Dal/Ind
The Pacers depth chart looks like this:
Foster/Harrison
O'Neal/Croshere/Pollard
Artest/Bender/Granger
Jackson/Jones/Miller
Tinsley/Johnson/Jasikevicius
Alby, where does Finley and Daniels fit in here?

RE:Dal/Ind
I posted this in Around the NBA...
Let's say we trade Devin, KVB, and Stackhouse to Boston for Pierce and Lafrentz (Fair deal right?)
If we trade Finley for Tinsley and Croshere...I would be ecstatic.
Our lineup...
Nowitzki Powell
Howard Croshere
Dampier Lafrentz
Pierce Daniels
Terry Tinsley
Benga, P-Pod round out the rest of the bench.
And oh yeah...we still have our MLE to spend.

I actually think this is one of the possible deals that Donnie has talked about. But, I think Boston wants to get rid of both LaFrentz and Blount. We wouldnt want to take on Blount because we would have Damp/Raef/DJ/Pavel and Blount would get paid for 5 more years doing absolutely nothing at 7 million a year.
I like this deal a little better than the one you posted akaarod.
Harris
Daniels
Van Horn
for
Pierce
LaFrentz
Banks
Depth Chart: Dallas
Terry/Banks
Pierce/Stackhouse
Howard/ FA (Dermarr Johnson?)
Nowitzki/Powell
Dampier/LaFrentz
We get Pierce, backup center, and Banks lessens the blow of trading Harris.
Depth Chart: Boston
Harris/West
Daniels/Allen
Green/Van Horn
Jefferson/(Najera?)
(Nene?)/Perkins
Boston gets a good young player at a postion they need (PG). Van Horn's contract is expiring, and Daniels would be another good young player added to an already young team. They can now focus on finding a team in which to do a Sign and trade for Walker. Davis/Blount to Denver for Nene/Najera/Lenard seems like a great deal for both the Celtics and Nuggets also.

RE: Dal/Ind
Also Blount has a 15% trade kick in. I remember that from last year when he negotiated the contract. That is why Ainge will struggle finding a suitor for him.

If you think that, then you're too busy seeing the benefit of the Mavs side without really looking at why the other team does it. Pacers lose Miller (announced his retirement a year ago) and Bender while adding Granger (draft), Finley, and Daniels.
No room for Daniels, not even at the point. Reggie came off the bench for $6.1 which is a big difference from Finley at nearly $16 million.
The Pacers have a total salary of $27,284,937 going out while bringing in $83,646,875.

These Indy rumors are just silly. The Pacers have no need for Finley. If last year had played out without the major suspensions the Pacer lineup was:
Tinsley, Reggie, Artest, O'Neal, Foster
With Stephen Jackson the first off the bench for Reggie.
The knew full well Reggie would retire soon. Jackson is Reggie's replacement. That's the whole reason they traded Harrington for him.
Now, their lineup is Tinsley, Jackson, Artest, O'Neal, Foster.
They have Freddie Jones off the bench at the 2 already, with several other interchangeable swingmen: the other Jones, Bender, etc.
They would have no use for Finely.
