What can we get for Eddie Jones?
So Eddie Jones is going to exercise his player option, and I really don't want him on our roster taking up space--a young guy in that spot would be better. So what are the possible scenarios for Jones?
Here's what I'm thinking: he's going to make $2MM or so, right? Which costs the Mavs $4MM, even if they cut him, because of luxury tax.
So what if we trade Jones to a team that is under the cap, or under the LT threshhold and has a big enough trade exception, along with $3MM cash? That team can keep him or cut him, it really doesn't matter. Mavs save $1MM on Jones (arguably they about break even if they give a minimum contract to a young guy to fill the roster spot, but whatever). The other team pockets a cool mil for nothing, and gets Eddie Jones if they want to keep him (either to play, or as bait for a deadline deal). The Mavs also get a $2MM trade exception out of the deal, which they could use to try to acquire a player of up to what, about $2.6MM from another team in exchange for a future #2? It's not the trade that puts us over the top, but it gets us something better than Eddie Jones on our roster next year--and I'm bored at work today.

We can't anything--unless we match salaries with someone whose got more than one year to go on their contract.
Most likely, if he is any use, it will just be to balance contracts in a bigger deal.

Trade him to New York for Marbury, they'll give you Starbury for anybody...
Due to New York and Dallas being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Dallas had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only New York met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Oops doesn't work at RealGM...
Uhh, you can't get anybody for Eddie Jones?

You can deal Jones to any team that has an exception or is far enough under the cap to take Jones' salary. Very few teams, but there are some out there, the Warriors for one, the Sixers are a couple of teams below the cap, the Nets have a 3.3 million trade exception, so teams that hold trade exception in amounts greater than Jone's salary can also take him on.
Now for players, I've reviewed some salaries and a player that interests me for Jones would be Thabo Sefolosha. Great on the ball defender, long arms, gets in passing lanes, struggles offensively, but with Kidd, should get more easy looks.

I'd say any two. Except the Land Shark Lager.
And you might get a 2nd round draft choice thrown in if you agree to take the banjo.
