Rangers sign ANOTHER pitcher....WTH?
Rangers hope for Thompson comeback
Associated Press
NEW ORLEANS -- The Texas Rangers signed former All-Star pitcher Justin Thompson to a minor league contract Saturday, hoping the oft-injured lefty can return to the majors.
Thompson, 30, has not pitched in the big leagues since Aug. 27, 1999, when he hurt his left rotator cuff. He has been trying to fully recover ever since.
Thompson was 2-0 with a 1.24 ERA for Triple A Spokane last season.
In 1997, Thompson was one of the more promising young pitchers in the majors. He went 15-11 with a 3.02 ERA for Detroit that season.
The Tigers traded him to Texas in a nine-player deal before the 2000 season.
