I'm seriously wondering if having the Damp contract would help us out now with Melo.

Damp/Butler/JET/#1 for KMart/Melo
Stevenson/Roddy/#1 for Smith

Massive cap savings. Cash. They re-fill in their 3 spot and 6th man spot with vets. Roddy/picks present some form of upside.

Meanwhile in Mavs land...

Wood/Mahinimi
Dirk/KMart
MELO/Marion
Smith/DoJo
Kidd/JJB

We've obviously sapped some depth on the team but KMart/Marion are still not bad..

Melo, Anderson, Smith (maybe Balkman). Thats 27 million salary. Damp, Butler, Roddy, DoJo, future first, maybe Stevenson

Chandler's contract isn't instant-expiring, but it could still have similar value (especially at the trade deadline...)

KMart is an expiring but they still have to pay him 16-17M this year. Damp would've erased that (mostly).

If Denver goes for that, I wouldn't worry about Melo past next year. A one year run with this group would put us on even keel with the Lakers. Now, if we're throwing in the future, we need to know what Melo's thinking, why he wants out of Denver, etc. In addition, don't know how favorable it is, but NFL wants Kroenke to unload his Nuggets holdings to take over the Rams.

Very true. But when Houston is being said as a "preferred" destination for Melo, you have to wonder it maybe can happen. What's a sexier choice, Houston or Dallas?

It seems that Jamal Crawford may ask for a trade from the Atlanta Hawks. Maybe we could look into trading for him? I already know some folks around here don't like his game, but he'd probably be our best option at the SG spot. And Terry for Crawford works straight up, even though I don't know if the Hawks wouldn't want more.

No, i dont trade Terry for Crawford. Crawford cant guard a chair either. I would not even trade Stevenson, Barea and Ajinca for him because it would kill PT for Roddy and Jones.

People should stop for marginal SGs like Smith or Crawford. Either trusting Butler/Roddy/Jones/Terry for the 48min there or going for a real allstar SG.

You wouldn't trade Terry for Crawford? Why not? Crawford isn't a great defender but he can guard PG's way better than Jet can. And his ballhandling would be a big help on our team. He is a guy who can create shots for himself and others also.

And you wouldn't trade Barea, Stevenson and Ajinca for him? Now thats just crazy imho. Well I'm sure Atlanta wouldn't even take such a crappy deal like that anyway, so it's a moot point. About Roddy and Dojo I understand we want them to develop, but I still think we should improve our SG spot. It's starting to seem to me that no one wants us to make any more moves to improve our backcourt because of them.

Why not bring a vet that can still play and at the same time still give Roddy and Dojo playing time? The Vet will be able to guide them and still contribute at the same time. As young players Roddy and Dojo will struggle. I'm not sold on relying on them completely. Why not have a veteran to help them and the team when they struggle? It's great to mix both veterans and youth and not just depend on only one.

Crawford like Terry a pure scorer. Beside this he delivers nothing.

Career 40.9, thats beyond horrible. Last year 44.9, the first time in 8 years he crossed the 41.6% mark. He is a taller but even less effective Jason Terry that maybe play slightly better defense than Terry (but still horrible one).

With Atlanta he found the perfect place for him, first time making the playoffs. That he gonna blow up now to squeeze out the maximum bucks for him. He is looking for 4 years 35-40 million. Even if we trade him for Terry or trash Cuban wont give him an extension before the end of the season.

So what will happen if you add such a chucker like Crawford that is in his contract year looking for his last big contract? He will play the way it helps the team most? Hell no. He will play the way he and his stats look good. Will he accept less minutes with Roddy (and maybe even Jones) showing they are ready for more minutes? Hell no, he will cry because he see his stats and $$$ floating away.

And Jason Terry is at least an important locker room guy. I dont change that to add a sore loser like Crawford for a marginal upgrade. Ah and Crawfords playoff FGA% in 11 games: 36%.

Roddy is a bigger key to success than Crawford because we need efficient scoring, guys that are able to go to the line and not getting destroyed at defense (you can even count Jones into this). Crawford is a 6-5 Terry/Barea, no thank you.

Maybe a bit early to put too many eggs in the Roddy basket. I have been high on the guy since he got here, but it seems like a lot of folks are quite possibly setting themselves up for a let down with how high they are already raising him.
