I. Diogu is better option.

Dont know why everyone thinks we need a PF now that Thomas isnt coming...
its not Marion's natural position but he's a guy most of us agree needs more burn. If he could play 5-10 behind dirk, those minutes would open up and we could really have a defensive expert out there while still having Butler, roddy, etc out there
I mean Carlisle might not play Marion there, but its not like we are desperate for someone. If I were coach, we'd pick up someone like Singleton or Pops as a third string behind Marion and Dirk.

Didn't Ike Diogu have micro fracture surgery recently? I wonder how it will affect his game.

Giving Marion more time at the 4 gives Butler more time at his natural 3 and gives Roddy more time at the 2. Not bad IMO.

I wouldn't mind giving Marion time at the four depending on who we play against.

ooo UD isn't going to like this..
DONUT 8: We’re gonna make a lot of hay this year about hatin’ on the Heat, but at some point, we’ll also acknowledge that the Mavs themselves don’t share that feeling. Case in point: Over the weekend, Dallas’ Caron Butler had a ball hanging out with Dwyane Wade.
“Man, it felt like old times hanging with @realtuffjuice,’’ Wade tweets. “Some people never change. (Butler, his former Miami teammate, will) always (be) my big bro.’’

Bet Butler takes minimum to play for the Heat next season...

I would like to have an extra guy like Pops or someone who can help out at PF and block some shots and rebound. I imagine Marion can be a decent rebounder at PF but he isn't really a shot blocker at that position. He can get us by defensively but I wouldn't want to be forced to rely on him, he was injured some last year and is only getting older. Might need that insurance and idk that Mahinmi is gonna cut it. Maybe he is tho and comes into his own...

This is how the rotation worked last year, there's no reason to think it wouldn't have continued. Marion's been the backup PF from the moment he got here.
You are correct, the only thing this changes is who we have as the emergency PF.

Rotation
Starters
SF Butler 26, Marion 22
PF Dirk 38, Marion 10
C Wood 30, Chandler 18
PG Kidd 32, Boobs 10, Barea 6
SG Boobs 20, Terry 18, Butler 10
Role players, Stevenson, maybe Barea, depending on how well Boobs does, Mahnimi, Ajinca. Would love to see Wood and Chandler together for a few minutes.

After listening to Cuban this morning on The Ticket, it sounds to me as though Jet is starting at the 2 and Butler at the 3.

And that we could beat LA in a 7 game series as currently constructed.

The problem i have with this is that we allready just have two real SF with Butler and Marion. And then just one real PF with Dirk. So actually we play the two forward spots with 3 guys. Imagine injuries or foultrouble. Smallball and 3 guard lineup all the way.
We have a ton of SG (non can really play SF) and center but just 3 guys for two positions...and no i dont want to see Chandler playing PF.

Chandler playing a few mins at the 4 is whack imo. He's strictly a 5... imo.

Might have to be that way to start off the season considering Boobs' injury.
Maybe they're done with starting Butler and Marion together?

Yeah, guy is in no way a 4. Also, you can't play someone so offensive inept at the 4. Why would you ever have Chandler and Wood on the floor at the same time?
Also, I don't think Marion will be happy one bit about coming off the bench.

Absolutely don't start Marion and Butler. We need to break JJB/JET/Roddy apart as subs to kill the 3G lineup.
I'm fine with Marion at #1 for spot PF minutes behind Dirky. What happens if Marion gets hurt? We'll have to put a guy like Chandler in at PF or Butler at PF. Is that ok? I still think we could use an extra body at the 4.

I do not understand starting Butler over Marion. Butler is a perfect scorer to help the second unit, and Marion's one role on this team is to defend elite scorers. Why would you screw up the early game matchups between Marion and the elite scorers?

That's exactly why a few weeks ago I was pushing for Marion to be the starting 3 over Butler, with or without Roddy in the equation.
I'm sure Butler is a very capable defender when he's "at the 3" but Marion has already shown what he can do and I highly doubt Butler can match or surpass that consistently.
The bench does have players who can score (Jet or Roddy, Barea and maybe DoJo). The problem is you don't have scores you can count on with consistency, Butler automatically fixes that issue. If you're defensively sound to start, you can build up a lead and have these scores hopefully keep a lead going or at least keep them in the game for when the starters come back.

Yeah, it looks much better.
Thats why i would love if Roddy could emerge to a 15PPG player, we need another player that is able to create his own shot in multiple ways and cover Kidds defensive liabilities.
Kidd
Roddy
Marion
Dirk
Haywood
You have your 2 main scorer and 3 other guys good for 10-12 points.
And a bench
Barea/DoJo
Terry/DoJo
Butler
i have no idea/some Marion
Chandler
could really destroy other 2nd units. Of course mixing it up with early substitutions, Marion sliding to PF, Roddy maybe some PG to cover Terrys lame defensive ass...

It's only a few people that have pushed for Butler > Marion to start. I haven't heard RC, Mark or anyone important say it was likely. Anyway, That could be considered as two fails, because they wouldn't be starting at the position they were acquired to play.
If Dojo has any decent midrange or outside shot at all, I think he will quickly become a valuable asset. He is probably the best penetrator we have on the team.

He already signed with Houston.
Plus the Mavs are considering Brian Cardinal, Bobby Simmons and Steve Novak to replace Tim Thomas with Cardinal as the favorite.

I read a tweet that said he had signed. But the link says otherwise. Maybe they got it wrong.

Kidd
Roddy
Butler
Dirk
Haywood
This roster is the best option for us.I don't know why you give Butler on the bench.

Someone has to take the role of second option on offense. Butler is in a contract year so I fully expect him and Chandler (also in a contract year) to have good years barring injury. It matters more who ends games between Butler and Marion....that is the tricky part. I say let them earn the starting position. I really like both players, but it just makes more sense to me to start Butler at this point.

Dang, really? Brian cardinal? Wow, I'd rather have a prospect or hell they can use the trade exception we got in the damp deal. I'm sure we can get someone better. James singleton or pops would be nice about now.

Last I heard about Brown is that he would be in training camp with us. He's most likely on a make good contract. Only way I see him sticking with us, if one of our points (knock on wood) go down.....or is traded.
