I'd be willing to bet that the debate between Dee Brown's training camp invite vs. the nuggets that have been posted on here as of late is FAR more interesting than actually discussing Dee Brown's training camp invite...

Short interview with Tim Thomas from Dallas Morning news:
Quote:
Tim Thomas: On why he returned to Mavericks; his wife's health
Posted at 10:33 PM on Mon., Sep. 6, 2010
SportsDayDFW sports
Tim Thomas left the Mavericks after 18 games last season to look after his ailing wife Tricia and his children.
But his wife is better and he is returning to the Mavs. The 6-foot-10 Thomas, 33, signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum of $1.35 million this past month. Thomas spoke recently to NBA.com about why he returned and how his family is doing.
On coming back to Dallas: "Loyalty is definitely the best word for it. Everything I went through, the organization was just great. From being hurt and having surgery to my wife's health, they were just great. From the basketball side of it, they know what I'm capable of doing if I'm healthy and they know also I just want to sacrifice for the team. I just want to win. .. I've had a long time off, so I have fresh legs, but then again it's been 14 years, so time will tell. I feel great right now."
On the support from all corners of the organization: "That was all I could ask for."
On wife Tricia's health (the family has decided to keep the nature of her illness private)
Tricia had improved to the point where she could care for their two daughters and run the household again: "When things started going downhill, (the Mavs) allowed me to stay home and take care of what's most important -- your family. I really appreciate that from them. I'm happy that everything worked out as far as my wife's health."
On watching the first-round exit to San Antonio from his home in Los Angeles: "It was about taking care of my wife, but I watched basketball as much as I could and I always kept up with what Dallas was doing. I reached out to everybody right before the playoffs and wished everybody well. "Of course I watched the playoff games and thought about situations where I could have helped.
On not deciding to seek out more money or a contract elsewhere: "There were a lot of talks, but nothing got as far as an actual contract. When my agent talked to Dallas and Dallas said they would love to have me back, it was a no-brainer. I definitely wanted to put myself in a situation where you have a chance to win an NBA championship."
Thomas played 18 games for the Mavericks last season and averaged 15.8 minutes per game, as well as 7.5 points and 2.3 rebounds. Those numbers are down from his career averages of 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 824 career regular season games, but Thomas gives the Mavericks depth in scoring and defending.
Mark Cuban said on Thomas' signing: "We knew it was tough on Tim and his family last year. Our policy is that family always comes first. So we certainly were trying to offer any help we could and to stay on top of the situation. With the new season getting ready to get started, we are excited to have Tim back. His size and ability to stretch the court will be a big help to us."

From Star-Telegram:
Quote:
Mavericks prepare for camp knowing their cast, prime issues
Posted Sunday, Sep. 12, 2010
By Eddie Sefko
Special to the Star-Telegram
Rick Carlisle's eyes were wide open when he took the Dallas Mavericks' coaching job in 2008.
Mark Cuban is driven by results. While the owner has shown more patience than most people realize with his coaches and teams, nobody connected with the Mavericks wants the Dirk Nowitzki era to be about piling up regular-season wins.
With training camp for a new season starting in a little more than two weeks, there's still only one ultimate goal. Going into Carlisle's third season, neither expectations nor attitudes have changed.
"Nothing different," Cuban said. "I want to win. The pressures are always the same because the goal is always the same. We're going to put it out there and see what we can do."
Something else hasn't changed much: the roster. The only big difference in the playing rotation is Tyson Chandler will be taking over for Erick Dampier at center.
Other than that, the top nine players are the same at this point, pending the development of rookie Dominique Jones and the return of Tim Thomas, who missed most of last season to tend to his ill wife.
So what are the prime issues confronting the Mavericks?
How can they feel like they are viable in a competitive Western Conference after failing to get past the second round in the playoffs in four consecutive seasons?
Here's a preview of what to look for this year:
1. Home cooking
The Mavericks were 27-14 on the road last season. Nobody was better. But at home, they were 28-13, which was sixth in the Western Conference.
This season, they play 17 of their first 26 games at home. The Mavericks intend to take advantage of that schedule.
"That's going to be our opportunity to re-establish ourselves as a really good home team, which we have to do," Carlisle said. "We need to be better at home. And we need to continue to be strong on the road."
2. Defense matters
The Mavericks improved last season.
They were 17th in total defense -- according to the team's calculations -- and improved to 11th last season.
"This year, we have to get firmly into the top 10," Carlisle said. "That's going to be a priority."
How, considering the roster hasn't changed much?
"We were in the top 10 for long stretches [last season]," he said. "We've just got to avoid the dips.''
The defense lapsed after the trade for Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood. But the offense picked up.
3. Coaching security
If the Mavericks can get off to a good start, it should quiet the vultures that inevitably will question whether Carlisle is on the hot seat this season.
Carlisle is entering the third season of his four-year contract. He's been highly respected for his game strategies and adjustments, in spite of the playing-time controversy for Roddy Beaubois in Game 6 of the playoffs last season.
Pressure?
"Yeah, but that's good," Carlisle said. "You want to be in a situation of high expectations. That means your team is good. I love it and our team loves it. That's one of the reasons we're one of the best teams in the league in close games."
It goes back to the fact that the Mavericks have not been happy with the results of the first two seasons under Carlisle, who agrees with that assessment.
"They're both failures," he said. "One, we got to the second round, so maybe it's viewed as more successful. But we were a better team this past year. We just got beat in the first round.
"Our mission is to stay the course and keep working on the things we have to work on -- defense and getting better at home. That's the difference between ultimate success and perceived shades of success."
4. One sure thing
"We've got to stick with what we've been doing and tweak things that need tweaking," Carlisle said. "But it ain't about blowing things up. That isn't who we are."

This is do or die year for Carlisle in my book. We need to win a couple playoff series at least and nearly as importantly he needs to be working the young guns into the mix. If he misuses the talent again, I will be off the RC boat by Xmas.

He only played 18 games last season, and we know nothing of the details. Basketball means little when it comes to the health of a spouse.
Just means more minutes for Marion, which I believe enhances his bench role. Start Kidd/Roddy/Caron/Dirk/Haywood, but switch off finishing Marion/Butler depending on match-up. I get the feeling that Roddy/Marion/Caron will be juggled position-wise. We may not get a star in that mix, but I'm pretty pleased with the talent of those three. Just gotta make the chemistry work....

Family or team. His choice is family. It's very sad news for mavs fans.We must search another player. This situation isn't funny for us.Free agents list is now very short. So we have two open looks. Underdog is suggests suicide.Maybe suicide is only way out.Who know.

James Singleton is looking for a job...
EDIT: looks like he'll be playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, but I'm sure we could still get him...

Former NBA player Pops Mensah-Bonsu was apparently released by Caja Laboral in Spain due to a pre-existing knee injury that caused him to fail a physical over the weekend, though Draft Express' Jonathan Givony noted on Twitter that it was "an injury everyone & their grandma knew he had" and if the team "had done ANY research at all into Pops' background, they would have discovered this issue with his knee immediately."
The knee injury obviously didn't limit Mensah-Bonsu's basketball skills, either, as he was an absolute stud for Great Britain's hational team during their play this summer in the Eurobasket qualifiers. In eight games, Mensah-Bonsu averaged 19.3 points and 13.5 rebounds with his best game probably being 32 points, 21 rebounds and four blocks he hung on Bosnia as part of a 94-85 victory on August 26.
It could turn out that being released from his team in Spain is a blessing in disguise for the NBA veteran and former D-League All-Star, however, as he will sign with an NBA team this week according to agent John Greig. Greig wouldn't specify which team Mensah-Bonsu is signing with, only revealing that it is "not a team in the Northwest Division."

Cool, I liked him. Great rebounder and shot blocker, isn't confused about wether he can shoot 3's or not.

Boone's a defender, rebounder, not a bad option, can play center as well. Diogu is similar to Bass in stature, gets most of his points on the low block, for 8 minutes a night and the minimum, can't go wrong with either, both have been through the NBA wars on the blocks.
