Texas Rangers minor leagues...
Just in case you haven't been paying attention, the Rangers minor league system is stacked. Beaven and Holland both had dominating performances tonight.
Holland struck out 6 in 6 innings while giving up only 5 hits and walking none. He gave up 1 earned run.
Beaven gave up 2 hits in 6 innings while striking out 3 and walking none as usual. He also gave up one earned run on a solo jack.

This is looking like yet another good year of minor league talent...will Ranger fans ever see this translate into a Major League Contender...on the field, rather than on the stat sheet?

Absolutely... Actually, they were a contender for the West last year until extremely late. So yeah, it's already starting to pay off even with the first wave of pitching talent just starting to get their feet wet in the majors.

Ogando, Boscan, Main, McCarthy all have nice to great outings. The top prospects are dealing.. Even if they're not prospects but are expected to have an impact on the Rangers staff this season such as McCarthy, they're absolutely lighting it up right now. Scheppers had a great outing.
The future is looking absolutely amazing for the Rangers with regards to pitching.

Would the Rangers be interested in giving up prospects to get Roy Oswalt?

What current beast in our starting rotation do you remove? Geez, these guys are really pitching very, very well right now.

the rangers have the best ERA in the mlb. pitching is far from the problem right now. how about more than 2 runs?
now if they wanted to trade for an actual hitter, i'd be totally down with that.

The system looks like it could provide some much needed help in a couple of areas sooner rather than later.
Smoak is hitting .353 with an OBP of .500. Max Ramirez is finally re-breaking out it appears. I suppose it helps that he's finally healthy. With Teagarden sucking both behind the plate and in the batter's box, Ramirez could get a shot sometime soon. He's hitting .407 with a .500 OBP. And yes, that's what this team needs.. guys that can get on base. Unfortunately, Moreland isn't hitting yet. I'd like to see that guy get on track and help the major league team sooner rather than later.
On the mound, Scheppers is tearing it up allowing an opposing BA of .091 while striking out more than 40% of his batters.
And yes, some of what I post on here is from Newberg's site, Scott Lucas' report or from TexasRangers.com.

the thing that bothers me about bringing players up is that they are unproven on a major league level. they need a hitter that has done something.

Great. If only we needed it.
But a surplus of young talent means trading possibilities, so that's good.

Kirkman at AAA - 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA. He has nearly a 20 inning scoreless streak right
now.
Omar Beltre at AAA of VisaGate - 2.70 ERA with 14K's in 10 innings. He could be in the majors this year.
Holland at AAA - 3-1 with a 0.53 ERA
Zach Phillips at AA - 0.00 ERA in 9.2 innings, 3 hits and 12k's. (I have a feeling that this relieve is just going to fly up the prospect rankings)
Tanner Scheppers at AA - 0.82 ERA in 11 innings. 0 walks and 19 strikeouts (promoted to AAA). He has given up only 3 hits.
Alexi Ogando at AA also of VisaGate - 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings, 2 hits, 14k's and 2BB's. This guy has been amazing by all accounts. Him and Scheppers are seen as starters but could both help in the majors as relievers this year.
Ben Snyder at AA - 1.15 ERA om 15.2 innings, 7 hits, 16k's but 10 walks.
Martin Perez at AA - 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings, 19k's but 10 walks. His control hasn't quite been there so far, but he's still moving along nicely. It won't hurt the Rangers' feelings at all if this guy spends the entire season in the minors. Actually, they would prefer for him to be there all of this year and maybe just about all of next. The guy's just 12 years old.
Blake Beaven in AA - 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 5 starts, 29.1 innings, only 23 hits and 5 walks. 17 k's. Again, he's only 21 and advancing quite nicely up the minors. He's just under 6 innings a start which is fine at this point of the season for a AA pitcher. His K's are up a bit, and his WHIP is way down. All signs look good with this kid.
Michael Main at High A - 0-1 in 4 starts with a 3.63 ERA in 22.1 innings. He has 17k's and 6 walks. He's been a little up and down, but he's definitely showing that he's over the illness that sidelined him for the majority of last year. I'm confident that he'll quickly be back to top prospect level by the end of the year. I don't know what the team plans on doing with him this season with regards to innings pitched after his wasted year last year.

Holland is up and Harrison is on the DL. Hunter was solid at AAA. Scheppers struck out 4 in 2 innings at AAA. Ogando continues to impress.

Man I am excited about Holland's call-up. I sure hope we get the version that shut out the As and not the 7 runs in 2 innings version we saw a couple of times last year.
Too bad about Harrison, but this is why having 8+ starting pitching candidates is a good problem to have - they never all stay healthy all year long.

I sure hope Holland comes up and lights up the Majors!!! If he were to stick along with our other youthful group...this is shaping up to not only be a good year, but perhaps some hope that this team can have some stamina while winning for years to come!!!

Beaven has got to be getting close to being moved to AAA... You'd think that Main would be getting close to moving to AA. Gotta like the way those young arms are throwing down in the minors.
