Josh Howard:2009 Playoffs
Since 2008 The only Maverick player (outside of Dirk) to step his game up in the playoffs.
This trend of our players shrinking in the playoffs has to end this year.

By that time in Howard's career, his game had nowhere to go but up.

Im really bored. So Ive been looking at old boxscores of Mavs playoff games between 2001 and 2006.
One thing really stood out. In most of these games the Mavs had 3 or 4 guys consistently step up and have really good games.
Whether it be Finley, Nash, Dirk and Nick Van Exel.....then segwayed to Josh Howard, Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse and Devin Harris.
Since 2008 its been Dirk and almost only Dirk.
Jet has had a couple of good games, Caron Butler has had a few good game, but for the most part they've been inconsistent.
The only Mav to play over their head was Josh Howard in the 2009 series against San Antonio.
I realize we arent supposed to praise guys Like Howard, Jet and Stackhouse on this board....but there was a time when they were really good complimentary players.
Shawn Marion, caron butler and especially Jason Kidd have never been able to consistent;y step theirr games up in the playoffs while in a Dallas uniform.

Shawn Marion and Caron Butler have never been able to "consistently step their games up" in the massive six total playoff games they've played for the Mavs?

YES.
I knew some massive homer like yourself was going to come and make excuses for them.
We were a 2 seed last year and got our asses kicked in the first round because no one outside of Dirk stepped up against the Spurs.
Caron had two good games and sucked ass in the other 4.

Exactly.
Maybe if they played better......they would have played more then 6 playoff games.

Yeah we suck.
There are 30 teams in the NBA. Because you obviously got no love left for this one, pick another you can actually cheer for. I think both sides would benefit.

A small sample doesn't mean that data are wrong. It means data are unreliable. You can and should make some judgments on small data sets. The simple fact is that our players need to step up and play better than they have in several years worth of playoff games. That'd be true if they sucked eggs for 50 playoff games or 1 playoff game. If you screw up at work, your boss says "do better next time" or even "you're fired." He doesn't say, "well, let's wait till you screw up 15 out of 20 times because then you will have met my criteria for rejecting a null hypothesis that you are not a screw up."

I think this year the team could show what a difference a year makes. We had a major roster shakeup last year but this season the core has stayed the same. Not necessarily has to have an impact but I am pretty confident it will. You already saw this season that the ball movement improved a lot. This indicates that communication and play-routine has been automated to a greater extend. This is not the team that has lost last years series in terms of knowing each other and by far not the team that has lost all the other series since 2006.
