Maybe JJB end up somehow on the roster but JJonhson and Teery should be off limits. Idk about Iwundi but he signed a 2yr minimum deal too. If any of these guys with guaranteed contracts get cut for JJB, then the MBT fuct up. Maybe they will give me some free money since they're just handing it out.

I care that Luka is happy and it's the 15th man on the roster we're talking about.

It's just two years and both yearsa are fully guaranteed.
I'd say that means something, but he got a minimum deal which means he doesn't count toward the cap (if he wasn't on the roster, there'd be a cap hold for empty roster spot for the same amount).
We've given out a ton of those minimum contracts out as a way to assess talent. Most recently Isaiah Roby who is still collecting his money.

If Lukas happiness hinges on JJ B being on the roster, and probably not even really getting minutes, then we have big problems. That would mean we have a supreme head case as the main man our franchise.
I mean it was no secret at all that JJB wanted to play still, so maybe they shouldn't have signed one of these other guys. You're right it is just the 15th guy, so not a huge deal, I just don't see why people even bring up Terry or Johnson being cut. The whole thing is awkward unless there's an agreement or understanding that we don't know of yet.

Iwundu might be the least talked about acquisition this offseason.
He sort of reminds of the Aminu pickup from a few years ago. I really like his defensive versatility and i think he could surprise some people being under the radar.

We will get a nice view of this when he's on another team because we dump him for JJB's last year.

Trey Burke's was good, too, imo. I like how hungry and focused this team seems.

I do like Johnson sort of blowing off the whole toughness thing. It is kinda silly in many ways as if we need guys to start fight or something. What we really need is defense. Bring defense, and I could care less about toughness.

Yeah, it's interesting how we might view Terry as the Curry replacement, but I'm thinking it was really Burke's playoff play that made Curry available in trades.

Yea. He's confident and experienced, I can see him being a calming factor to our guys.
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets plenty of minutes. Its hard to overlook his defense on one side and assists on the other.

Defense is toughness in the NBA from my point of view. Well, that and not backing down which as JJ said, we didnt back down... especially vs the Clips.
Sure a shove or getting in an opponents face here and there is sometimes necessary but the rest is almost a non factor.

For sure. Probably a bit of both.
I think Burke will get a lot of Curry's minutes, especially early on, even if he doesn't play the exact, same role.
My sneaky favorite part of this off-season is that while they seem to have made a commitment to drafting and developing some young, exciting players, they also made sure they're in a position where they don't absolutely have to depend on them to contribute. I think that's important for a playoff team. You don't want to rule out the possibility of rookies contributing, but you also don't want to depend on it, if you can help it.
Burke gives Terry some time.
Richardson gives Green some time.
Johnson gives Bey some time.
Even Iwundu will have to get past DFS to carve out a major role here, imo.
I see lots of redundancy (in a good way).

Redundancy in a covid season with a compressed schedule is essential. The teams that don't have a deep bench can easily be in trouble

That's the beauty of the way this team was constructed. No more veterans on their last legs, and no depending on rookies and second year players to make a huge contribution.
I'm very optimistic about this team. Lots of length, defense, athleticism, and a good balance of youth and experience, but young experience.

Exactly, the Mavs have the recipe to keep Luka happy for a while and things are looking good.
The biggest challenge the FO will have over the next decade or so is to find a way to maintain a tantalizing situation for Luka to keep him here.
Luka loves the spotlight so Donnie and Mark will need to keep the stage as big as possible for him and I think this off-season will help increase the size of that stage.
Welcome to the board embellisher!

Yeah, I see Burke filling Curry's shoes short-term and hopefully Terry will become the long-term solution to fill that JET/Curry/Burke role.
I actually think Terry's ceiling is much higher than Burke's and it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually becomes as much of an impact on this team as JET was during his glory years in Dallas.

He should handle it that way.
If you are really tough you don't have to say it.
I like what he brings.

Has anyone seen Wes Iwundu at training camp? I wonder if he was one of the ones to test positive for Covid.

I THINK I saw him shooting free throws in the background of one of those practice footage videos going around. It was only for a few seconds, and this was based on his hair though, so I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Yeah I saw him running suicides and shooting FTs
Cant find the videos now though.
He’s obviously like 15th on the roster and may be on the block so he’s not getting featured.

Which begs the question why didn't he get more minutes last year on team starving for defense especially rim Protection?
I know there were a few fans last year who stated he doesn't help the offensive spacing but it was clear as day he was a impact defensive player for the Mavs.
Maybe things change for him this year since thy are finally putting a emphasis on defense.
I'm glad Miami and LA were in the finals and introduced defense back into the NBA.

He's a vertical spacer, just like Powell, so that's not it.
WCS, himself, has said that he was just getting into the swing of things here before the shutdown. Learning the terminology, defensive rules, etc.

He made some blunders in the offense/defense for sure and nothing on a Rick-coached team gets you benched like missing a rotation or not being in position, but that was totally understandable for a guy who didn’t have camp or most of the year with us.
Here’s hoping that with a camp he can learn fast enough to be effective— particularly offensively. Imagine if he could develop the offensive chemistry that Doncic and Powell had (1st in the league in assisted TS%) while providing the team-leading defensive win share that WCS provided last year. I don’t see why not.

It’s interesting how some teams just seem calmer and more confident when they have a big guy who has got their back physically.
For example over the past few years, the Australian national team has performed really well with Andrew Bogut on the floor, even though he has been nowhere near the player he used to be. Everyone just seems to grow a little taller when he is out there.

Tyson Chandler effect. Also Shawn Marion and Deshawn Stevenson.
