Went to see a performance of Handel's Messiah last night--a really great work for inspiring the spirit of the season.

Others?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she'd left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.

When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.

Grandma go run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
Drinkin' beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.

It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of pig.
And a blue and silver candle,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.

I've warned all my friends and neighbors.
Better watch out for yourselves."
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

From the legendary REK:

Mom got drunk and dad got drunk
At our Christmas party
We were drinkin' champagne punch
And homemade egg nog
Little sister brought her new boyfriend
He was a Mexican
We didn't know what to think of him
Til he sang Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad

My brother Ken brought his kids with him
The three from his first wife Lynn
And the two identical twins
From his second wife Mary Nell

'Course he brought his new wife Kay
Who talks all about AA
Chain smokin' while the stereo plays
Noel, noel, the first noel

Chorus
Carve the turkey
Turn the ball game on
Mix marguarita's when the egg nog's gone
Send somebody to the quick-pak store
We need some ice and an extension cord
A can of bean dip and some diet rite
A box of tampons and some Marlboro Lights
Hallelujah, everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the family

Fred and Rita drove from Harlingen
I can't remember how I'm kin to them
But when they tried to plug their motorhome in
They blew our Christmas lights

Cousin David knew just what went wrong
So we waited out on our front lawn
He threw the breaker and the lights came on
And we sang Silent Night
Oh silent night

Oh holy night

Chorus
Carve the turkey
Turn the ball game on
Make Bloody Marys 'cause we all want one
Send somebody to the Stop and Go
We need some celery and a can of fake snow
A bag of lemmons and some diet sprite
A box of tampons and some Salem Lights
Hallelujah, everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the family

Feliz Navidad

Edit: I copied this off some site. It obviously was copied down by somebody who wasn't from Texas. I have corrected the errors to reflect the right lyrics.

The Gift

A poor orphan girl named Maria was walking to market one day
She stopped for a rest by the roadside where a bird with a broken wing lay
A few moments passed till she saw it for it's feathers were covered with sand
But soon clean and wrapped it was traveling in the warmth of Maria's small hand

She happily gave here last peso on a cage made of rushes and twine
She fed it loose corn from the market and watched it grow stronger with time

Now the Christmas Eve service was coming and the church shone with tinsel and light
and all of the townfolk brought presents to lay by the manger that night
There were diamonds and incense and perfume in packages fit for a king
but for one raggged bird in a small cage Maria had nothing to bring

She waited till just before midnight so no one would see her go in
and crying she knelt by the manger for her gift was unworthy of Him
Then a voice spoke to her through the darkness, Maria what brings you to me
If the bird in the cage is your offering, open the door, let me see.
Though she trembled, she did as he asked her and out of the cage the bird flew
Souring up into the rafters on a wing that had healed good as new

Just then the midnight bells rang out and the little bird started to sing
a song that no words could recapture whose beauty was fit for a king

Now Maria felt blessed just to listen to that cascade of notes sweet and long
As her offering was lifted to heaven by the very first nightingale's song.

(a very pretty song on the Garth Brooks xmas cd)

Default xmas mood

bump.

already in xmas mood ?

did you rehearse the xmas songs well ?

any song lyrics prefered ?

sounds not bad ;-)...

or more classic

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
With the kids jingle belling,
and everyone telling you,
"Be of good cheer,"
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

There'll be parties for hosting,
marshmallows for toasting and
caroling out in the snow.
there'll be scary ghost stories and
tales of the glories of Christmases
long, long ago.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There'll be much mistletoeing
and hearts will be glowing,
when loved ones are near.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

I love Handel's Messiah. Totally amazing. My two favorites are "For Unto Us a Child Is Born" and of course the "Hallelujah Chorus". Amy Grant's first Christmas cd is pretty good too. My favorites from that cd are "Heirlooms" and "Love Has Come". Good stuff.

A new born King to see

Our finest gifts we bring

To lay before the kIng

So to honor Him

That's fit to give our King

Shall I play for you

GOOD KING JOY
Joy to the world
The Lord has come
Let earth
Receive her king

Now it was long ago
When it all began
Back in Bethlehem
In the promised land

When a single star
Appeared in the sky
And three kings saw
And they each asked why

And they checked the books
Full of prophecy
And the one king said
Why it's plain to me

You see it means
That a king is born
Who will save mankind
On this blessed morn

So they packed some gold
Myrrh and frankincense
On some old camel
With some fancy tents

Closed down the house
Set the servants free
And three kings rode
Into history

It was long ago
In a foreign land
When the Lord looked down
Said to make a stand
So He sent His son
And said, 'through him you'll know me!'

Then the angels came
And when they start to sing
All at once the past

It doesn't mean a thing
And the star comes out
And the wise men say, Hey show me!

And they followed it
Over hills and sand
Til' they found the child
Like it all was planned
And as they knelt before
The newborn king

The angel's were singing
In their angel style
How all of our hopes
Had come down to this child

Then he reached for the song
And he held it in his hand
(It was something that he did
Because angels can)

And he wondered to himself
"Is this the answer that I sought"
But something was still missing
Or at least so he still thought

And so he journeyed on
Through the midnight winter air
When all at once our angel
Felt the touch of a man's prayer

And looking once more to the earth
To determine whence it came
He felt a million souls below
But one was not the same

For there he saw a man alone
Though he was walking in a crowd
And though this man had rarely prayed
Tonight his head was bowed

For even in a crowd, you see
A heart can feel alone
When the night is Christmas Eve
A child is not at home

So from a father to the Lord
A prayer did swiftly race
But the angel saw it first
And he listened to its case

Do you like that one better than A Christmas Collection? I personally like A Christmas Collection a bit more. Just my humble opinion! I listen to it year-round. It's too good to only listen to a few weeks a year!

I don't have A Christmas Collection.

I do have the one after Home for Christmas, but it's certainly not as good.

Just a quick ? though raef... do you mean this one?

? If so, That isn't called Christmas Collection, just The Collection. It's like a best of album. And I do own that one. I couldn't find one called A Christmas Collection anywhere online, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And although that album certainly has some songs that could be passed as Christmas songs(Emmanuel, El Shaddai), it isn't a Christmas album. .

Excellent album though.

No, I meant this one:

I couldn't find a release date on it, but I know it was her first Christmas album. I had the name wrong. It is called Christmas Album (how original!). It has a unique version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" that I could listen to over and over and over again. And I also have The Collection. It's a good one! I love her older stuff.

why this one, sike ? any special reason ?
I really like the last line of the thrid verse..."Lord at Thy Birth"....it remids the Christian that nothing Christ did on Earth earned Him this Title...he was and IS Lord. I would like it even better if it said "Jesus, Lord before even the creation of time"... ( )...but that is not nearly as poetic.
