Yinka Dare dies after collapsing at home

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- Yinka Dare, the New Jersey Nets' first- round draft pick in 1994, has died after collapsing at his home. He was 32.

A medical examiner determined that Dare, pronounced dead Friday at Englewood Hospital after being rushed to the emergency room, had a heart attack due to an arrhythmia condition that was discovered when he was in college at George Washington.

He collapsed while preparing breakfast after a routine morning workout at his home.


The 7-foot-0 Nigerian center played 110 games in four seasons with the Nets, averaging 2.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. He had only four career assists, none in his first two seasons.

While at George Washington, he led the Colonials to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances under coach Mike Jarvis.

Dare is survived by his parents, Gabriel and Joan, and two sisters and a brother.

Poor guy, had an arrhythmia that eventually caught up with him. Condolences to his family.

Interesting stat, in 110 NBA games he had only 4 assists!

i remember when they kept a running tally on sportscenter on whether or not he got an assist (once it was up to like a year without one). i remember in one game he almost got one, but the scorekeeper took it away because it was more of an outlet pass on a fast break, and the guard dribbled down the court for the score.

Hahah, I remember that too. I feel bad for the big guy, though. That crazy assist tally was one of the funniest sports stories I can remember. I'll never forget it. What a legacy!

Yinka The 9th Wonder of the World I am not making fun of his death but here is a semi comical site of his NBA career.

I feel sorry for him too. I remember when he played at George Washington. He actually played pretty well but he was so lost when he got to the NBA.
