PGT: Vintage Dirk defeats the rotting corpse of Kobe
25 points on 10-13 shooting (3-5 beyond the arc) and 9 rebounds in 30 minutes...

Really loving Dirk's effort on the boards so far this season... I know it's a small sample size, but he hasn't grabbed rebounds at this rate since 2009.

Also, congrats to Carlisle -- tonight's victory makes him the winningest coach in Mavs history.

Kobe is making 20+M$ this year. Let this sink in for a while.
Good that the Starting 5 was on the field for the first time. Parsons needs 1-2 Weeks till hes really back but the Game is much better with Deron leading the way.

I really, really like our team. So many guys who know how to play basketball the right way and seem to love being here. Their chemistry is already pretty good considering we've only played three games. We're going to have to tighten up our defense and hope everyone can stay healthy.
PS - Dirk is moving so well out there. Congrats to Coach Rick, love that guy so much. Oh and Kobe should seriously consider retirement. I've never seen him look so bad. The Lakers look much better when he's on the bench.

Dirk got off to such a hot shooting start last year. I hope he can maintain solid Dirk-like percentages this year.

We looked great for most of the game. When you have a new center and a new point guard, it's basically a new squad. As a result I am trying to ignore the projections and power rankings as neither account for chemistry.

The Lakers only wished they had Dirk.
Mavs also haven't been as bad at rebounding as I thought they'd be these first three games.

2 should win games and 1 scheduled loss into the season and we're 2-1.
Now comes a good test against a Toronto team coming to Dallas off to a 3-0 start and looking like a pretty good team. This should be telling. I'll be there for the game tomorrow. Can't wait!

It's obviously super early but he actually hasnt ever rebounded like this for a full season. Nearly 12 per 36 is a really good rate

I think it has to do with something I pointed out a couple games ago -- Dirk and Zaza have really good timing and chemistry when it comes to grabbing rebounds... One thing that bugged me over the past few years, even with Tyson, is that our chemistry around the boards was garbage... Either everybody would box out and nobody would grab the ball, or everybody would try to grab the ball and nobody would box out, usually resulting in the other team coming down with an offensive rebound. I dunno, it's one of those things that can't exactly be quantified, but Dirk and Zaza just seem to be very aware of each other around the basket.
It also doesn't hurt that Powell is a MUCH better rebounder than Wright ever was (footwork! positioning!), not to mention that Deron is probably our best rebounding guard since Kidd.

Excellent pot UD. Powell's improvement, especially on the glass, is one of the stories of the young season so far. He's stronger and more confident and even quicker. Same for Dirk. Dwight and Dirk both in great shape and moving with economy of purpose.

And it's more than just rebounding. The ball movement and where players needs to be is drastically better than last season. Having players that can both pass and shoot obviously helps. I suppose not having ball hogs like Rondo and Ellis helps as well. (Ellis having a terrible season so far for Indiana.)

Yeah, there were a lot of things I loved about Ellis, but ball movement sure as hell wasn't on the list.

The thing that has me most excited about the team is that we are playing like a team already. The guys seem to genuinely enjoy playing with each other. There is an amazing chemistry out there that has resulted in a lot of fun passing and playmaking. Everyone can catch a pass-- even a pocket pass down low-- and everyone is willing to make the extra pass. It's really fun to watch. We're now 4th in assists per game of any team.
Our defense and rebounding may take a hit against the elite teams in the West, but we are going to put on a fun show a la the 2001-2002 Mavs when Dirk was still young. There is something just intensely fun about watching a bunch of guys who like to play the game being creative and having fun out there.

Just saw where we were top 10 in rebounding so far too. Can't wait for McGee to get healthy.
Definitely getting League Pass this season. I'm that excited to watch this group.

The mavs so far are rebounding well while not putting effort into going after offensive rebounds (you can tell getting back on defense is a huge strategy), this is a big thing. Consistently see only 1 guy going after a offensive rebound and guys sprinting back.

Yeah. A strategic thing. Carlisle is having Pachulia crash the glass but everyone else get back on defense, to minimize opponents' opportunities for buckets in transition. Makes sense. And Pachulia has historically been a very good offensive rebounder.

TMAC was on with Steve Denison today and was basically saying that Pachulia is every bit the locker room presence that Tyson was. The guys apparently really like him.

Can someone get Vinsanity to come out of whichever dark room he has been since last nights ass whooping and create the GDT?
