What about James Posey?
As New Orleans is in financial trouble, can we steal James Posey with Stack & 2M? He's a dependable defender and shooter which fits in nicely in the starting spot.

James Posey is a tough sumbitch who would be a welcome addition to our roster. Kinda like a turbocharged Devean George.

Posted it in the NBA Thread:
I'd love to have him, I just think the contract might run a little too long for their liking. He's a player that would make you consider it though. He's an awesome role player and he'll bring some toughness as well.
He works out straight up for Stack.

I think it's ok to have some contracts that are long right? I mean almost everyone's off the books by the end of 2010. Are we going to assemble this entirely new team that's going to be a contender? Highly unlikely.

Ugh, all he does is camp in the corner and shoot threes.
And it is somewhat effective in New Orleans because CP3 is so good at getting into the lane.
Who is good at getting to the lane for the Mavs?
His toughness and intangibles are nice, but I'm looking for more than intangibles.

Well, I think they want sure-fire guys to be the only guys still on the books. 2-3 years down the road, you might not be so sure about Posey. His contract isn't terrible, it's just I think they might be stingy on that kind of thing. If they are, then he's probably out of the question.
I might have it as 60/40 that they'd be interested, 70/30 tops. That's below my liking, I would have it higher. I'm just making an assumption about our FO.

That might be what he does...but he's pretty darn good at it. He's hovering in the upper 30s/low 40s for 3 pt %...which would put him as the best shooter beyond the arc on our team.
Who is good at getting in the lane? Wright, Josh when he wants to.
He plays good defense and can guard guards or forwards. I would take him.

I would love him or Stephen Jackson. Straight up thugs on and off the court. We used to have that in Josh Howard but now he's just a thug off the court.

He also plays tough D and really gets in his opponents' heads. I'd get him here in a heartbeat, if given the option.

Trade Stack for Posey
Trade Kidd for Kaman/B. Davis
Trade Josh/Bass for Shaq
= win

Why would we want to have Shaq, who might have another season left in the tank above Kaman's level, instead of Kaman who could be a great addition for years to come and has a very reasonable contract? You can't really hope for a better package of age, production, and salary than Kaman these days.
Davis/Kaman/Posey for Kidd/Stack sounds better to me than Davis/Kaman/Shaq/Posey for Kidd/Howard/Stack.
Kaman/Dirk/Howard/Wright/Davis as the starting-lineup with JET, Posey, and Bass coming of the bench would be quite nice. On top of that, we would still have Damp's expiring $12 million contract next February. And imagine Dirk decided to opt out of his contract and sign for considerably less money in 2010, we could go for another nice piece.
If things fall into place, the future could be bright for the Mavs.

Josh/Bass does not = Shaq. That scenario included Stack to make the money work.
If you did the Josh/Bass in this scenario, then you would have to include Damp. Josh/Damp/Bass for Shaq.
Then you would have
Baron, JJB
Wright, Terry, Carroll
Posey, George
Dirk, Singleton
Shaq, Kaman, Hollins
If Kaman is an option, then I don't think you do Shaq, IMO.
I don't think Kidd is an option though.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Kidd and Baron would be fun though. Josh, Stack, Bass for Baron/Camby would be a fun attempt. Kidd, Baron, Terry, JJB --- Wright, George, Green, Singleton, Carroll --- Dirk, Camby, Damp, Hollins. I am not sure you would have enough D, but that would be fun to watch. Smallball with Kidd, Baron, and Terry on the court, with Dirk, and Camby.

In general, my philosophy on any trade that might be made between Dallas and NO is that unless it represented a significant talent-win for the Mavs, it wouldn't be worth doing. And when I say significant talent win, I'm talking stuff like Carroll for Posey and Damp/Stack/filler for Peja/Chandler.

You don't think Stack for Posey would? I think so...
Better health, better age, better defender, better clutch player, rebounder, etc.
I think scoring might be the only thing Stack might still have Posey on.

It's not the on-court production that would be at issue in a Stack/Posey swap. Unless Jerry's found a fountain of youth over the past few months (quite hoping that he has at the moment, actually) he's past being a useful contributor, and while I'm not too enamored with Posey, he'd probably at least help some. I don't think he's worth the contract, though, and for that reason and that reason alone I would say no to swapping the two of them.

Yeah...that's the ONLY problem I see with Posey, the contract. The price isn't bad, slightly above the MLE, but for 4 years? That makes it a problem.
He's on the short list that would be worth it though.

As insane as this is... it would win the Mavs a championship without question. This is the type of stupidity that the Heat pulled to get them their first ring...
