Pretty early to pencil in McGee as a starter when he only averaged 10pts, 7.7 reb per 36. Any center worth his salt can gobble up 10-13 rebounds per 36 and we'll be leaning on our center to put up big rebounding numbers next to Dirk and Parsons.

Rebounds per 36
11.1 - Dally
10.4 - Zaza
7.7 McGee

Rebound rating
32.2 Dalembert (20th among centers)
30.6 Pachulia (28th among centers)
22.7 McGee (lowwwwww)

I think people remember his stats from a few years ago and remember when he was crazy but worth the risk, because his potential was sky high. Since then, he's actually gotten worse rather than better.
What happened is that he got hurt. It's hard for an injured player to improve.

@espn_macmahon: As expected, Mavs are releasing Sam Dalembert despite his guaranteed salary. Salah Mejri beat Dalembert out for a roster spot.

That's the right move. My gut tells me this isn't a playoff team, so we might as well put some development equity into guys that can be pieces moving forward.

Coming into camp out of shape basically ended his NBA career.

his career was dying long before that, but we gave him one last shot and he blew it. Dude looked totally out of shape and uninterested in playing ball.

Most desperate team in the league for a good center and he still couldn't get in shape and play hard for us.

Two words: guaranteed salary.

Dalembert is laughing all the way to the donut shop...
