.c The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Mike Batiste scored 33 points, with four of his last six in the second overtime, to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 119-116 win over the Seattle Supersonics on Friday night.

Seattle's Gary Payton had 40 points. He played 46 of the 58 minutes, making 18 out of 29 attempts as Seattle went to 0-4 in the preseason.

Payton scored all 10 of his team's points in the first overtime that ended 109-109. His layup gave the Sonics their last lead of the game, 109-107 with 59.4 seconds left in the first overtime.

Batiste's jumper with 22.8 seconds to go then tied the score at 109-109, leading to the second overtime.

Batiste's two free throws with 1:44 remaining put the Clippers ahead for good at 115-113. Marco Jaric added two free throws with 26.8 seconds left and Batiste's breakaway dunk with 6.6 seconds left made it 119-113.

Andre Miller's layup with 11:19 left in the third quarter gave the Clippers a 61-39 lead. Seattle battled back in the third quarter behind Payson's 10 points to cut the Clipper margin to 77-65. Los Angeles led 57-39 at the half.

Clippers 101, Lakers 99

.c The Associated Press

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Mike Batiste scored 11 of his team's final 13 points, including a baseline jumper with 6.6 seconds left, to give the Los Angeles Clippers a 101-99 exhibition win over the champion Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.

Batiste ran down a loose ball in the right corner moments before he hit his winner.

The Lakers were led by Kobe Bryant, Jannero Pargo and Kareem Rush with 13 points apiece. The Lakers were playing without Shaquille O'Neal, who is recovering from foot surgery, and forward Rick Fox, who was out with back spasms. Robert Horry played only nine minutes, all in the first half.

Pargo hit two long jumpers, including a 3-pointer, to rally the Lakers from a 97-90 deficit in the final two minutes. Corey Maggette had 23 points for the Clippers while Batiste added 19 and Eric Piatkowski 14.

Pargo and Rush missed desperation 3-point attempts in the final seconds. The Lakers led 59-51 at halftime, using a 13-2 spurt to open a 57-47 lead late in the second quarter. Nick Sheppard had all six of his points in that late second-quarter rally.

I never hear much about him out of college, but WOW!
