Default New York interested in Walker...fine...lets make a deal

Apparently, New York is interested in Walker. I'm assuming Dallas in interested in Dampier. Indiana is interested in NVE. Golden State wants to get rid of NVE and get something for Dampier. Let's make a deal...

Dallas trades Antoine Walker and Tony Delk

Dallas receives Erick Dampier and Austin Croshere

Golden State trades Nick Van Exel and Erick Dampier

Golden State receives Kurt Thomas, Scott Pollard, Jonathan Bender, and Tony Delk

Indiana trades Jonathan Bender, Scott Pollard, Austin Croshere

Indiana receives NVE and Shandon Anderson

New York trades Kurt Thomas and Shandon Anderson

New York receives Antoine Walker

Why Dallas does it? I really believe Dampier could help us win a championship. Call me crazy...but I think he's the missing piece. Of course last year we probably win the championship if Nowitski wasn't hurt for the final 4 games of the Spurs series...but thats beside the point. What has Dampier done against the power teams in the West? Let's take a look:

Dallas - 10/29/03 - 14 pts 17 rbds 3 blks
01/07/04 - 15 pts 8 rbds 2 blks
02/03/04 - 13 pts 12 rbds 1 blk

Lakers - 11/02/03 - 14 pts 23 rbds 2 blks
12/23/03 - 17 pts 11 rbds

Kings - 11/16/03 - 11 pts 15 rbds 1 blk
12/26/03 - 8 pts 9 rbds 1 blk

Spurs - 11/18/03 - 17 pts 11 rbds 1 blk
11/29/03 - 9 pts 16 rbds 1 blk

Timberwolves - 12/09/03 - 12 pts 8 rbds
01/28/03 - 21 pts 19 rbds 5 blks

Against Dallas...he's averaged 14 pts, 12.3 rbds, and 2 blks
Against Lakers..." 15.5pts, 17 rbds, and 1 blk
Against Kings...." 9.5 pts, 12 rbds, and 1 blk
Against Spurs...." 13 pts, 13.5 rbds, and 1 blk
Against Timberwolves...." 16.5 pts, 13.5 rbds, and 2.5 blks

Folks...the numbers may be bloated since he's on Golden State...but that's pretty damn good against the Power teams in the West.

Why Indiana does it? To get NVE. Anderson and Croshere's contract are essentially the same...although I think Anderson could play a much bigger role on the Pacers than what Croshere is currently playing.

Why New York does it? They get Walker for Anderson and Thomas? Nuff said.

Why Golden State does it? They get salary cap relief this year with Thomas most likely opting out. They get a decent center who simply hasn't found a niche in Indiana in Pollard. Bender is a nice young player who could finally devolop into something in Golden State if given more playing time. Delk is a nice role player. 2 years from now...both Delk and Pollard contracts are up...so they could be used as trade bait then. If the Warriors don't want Delk...Bradley could be inserted instead. I know the Warriors would be interested in Bradley because most likely Foyle will not resign with them. So they would have a center tandem of Pollard and Bradley...not too bad. From Dallas' perspective...I'd still pull the trigger...I mean Dampier/Williams/Nowitski/Fortson isn't too shabby. Of course, I think we can address the backup center position with Ostertag in the summer. Anyways, I'm thinking one of the teams above has to give Golden State a draft pick or cash or both to sweeten the deal for them (Probably New York since they're getting Walker for essentially nothing).

That's a fine looking trade if you ask me. It seems real from everyone's standpoint. Dallas gets a center for a Power Forward, which we already have 6 power forwards on the team now. Golden State reduces their salary obligations, gets a talented young big man, and yes, they would need at least a pick or two thrown in. New York obviously upgrades. Indiana takes a risk with Van Exel's knees, but their window of opportunity is this year and next, and Van Exel might just be able to give them a good two years.

I'd substitute Bradley for Delk if necessary.

Do it!

Nash - Best
Fin - Delk
Jamison - Howard
Nowitzki - Fortson
Dampier - Williams

Ok heres why this deal doesnt get done

Dampier is not worth Walker...and id take delk over croshere seeing that if we trade him and nash goes down were screwed

I see no reason for Indy to do this deal...NVE would not be happy on that team at all and Anderson wouldnt come off the bench behind Artest Miller and Wallace

Only team that does this is NY

More like "Walker isn't worth Dampier" no knock on Walker but Dampier's trade value trumps Walker's, if even for the simple fact Dampier is a above average big-man. I'll bet my house that when Dampier gets traded its for somebody better then Raef Lafrenz.

Id have to disagree with this Jamisonite. Walker and Dampier's trade value may be about even if not slightly in favor of Dampier due to his break out season along with the fact that many teams are in need of a good center. It would be a fitting move to give up Walker and Delk in this scenario because for 1) We get the center we desparately need...and set up a chance for a very good center rotation next year if we can pick up Ostertag as well..Dampier/Tag/Bradley would possibly be the best center rotation in the league. 2) If we part with Delk, we still have Best and Daniels if Nash goes down.

As to whether Indiana would do this trade, ..I agree that they would be reluctant towards this trade. They would have to be really set on dumping some salary to do this though Im not sure they would want to part with Bender, Pollard is good insurance at the 5, and Bird seems to be pretty high on Croshere. On the other hand, I think Van Exel would compliment Indianas game style very well and dont see why Van Exel would not want to play for indiana..the situation is extremely better than the one he is currently in and he would be playing for a team in title contention

I could see Golden State doing this. They get compensation for the soon-to-walk Dampier and a decent p/g in return for Van Exel.

From a Dallas perspective, I feel you have to do this

New York should do this trade

I really distrust any player who has a "break out season" in a contract season. I'm sure most GMs do as well.

I agree, Max. This is like the 2ND TIME he's done this so it can't be viewed as a coincidence anymore. DAMPIER IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. He plays hard to get the money, then when he gets it, he relaxes and just goes through the motions while ROBBING THE TEAM HE'S ON from its money.

Walker Not worth Dampier? Yeah....sure. And the World is Flat, OJ is Innocent, Michael Jackson is normal, and Jayson Williams is sane.

Look, I don't Want DAMPIER here. Let's make that clear. This guy ONLY PLAYS WELL IN A CONTRACT YEAR. Make no mistake...This IS the 2nd time it's happened so it's no coincidence that he is all about the MONEY and ONLY THE MONEY.

Keep Walker and sign Tag in the offseason.
