Chalupas at Cheesesteaks (Mavs at Philly gameday thread!)
V.
I got a good feeling about this one. Mavs have regained their hunger on the road and are looking to drive thru and dine out, with the cheesesteak missing its main ingredient, top cheesemaker Allen Iverson will sit this one out. As the Mavs head for chalupa territory, it promises to be a feast!
Mavs 110- Cheesesteaks 98

Didn't the 76ers beat Sacramento without AI? We definitely can't blow this one off. If Korvair is hot, we could be in trouble. I like both teams, but the Mavs need this win and the 76ers haven't played too well the whole season. Last game against them (with AI) at AAC was pretty darn exciting....double overtime! They can definitely give us troubles, but hopefully not too much without AI.

RE: Chalupas at Cheesesteaks (Mavs at Philly gameday thread!)
Matt Pinto
Mavs @ Philadelphia, March 22
For the second straight game the Mavericks catch an injury break as their season long five game road trip moves from New Jersey to Philadelphia Monday night (March 22 at 6pm CT) for a clash with the 76ers at the Wachovia Center. Dallas saw a Nets team minus Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin on Sunday, they'll face a Philly squad missing Glenn Robinson in this game. And that's a significant setback for a 76ers team that struggles to score. Robinson clobbered the Mavericks with a 34 point, 7 rebound performance in helping the Sixers push Dallas to double overtime January 14 at American Airlines Center.
Michael Finley
This will be the second and final meeting between the two teams. The Mavs withstood a furious 76ers rally in the earlier encounter that saw Philly erase a 14 point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to force not just one, but two overtimes before succumbing 125-122. Dallas had three score 20 or more that night as Michael Finley led the way with 32, followed by Dirk Nowitzki's 25 and Antawn Jamison's 23. Philadelphia got 34 from The Big Dog, 31 from Allen Iverson and 24 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocked shots from young center Samuel Damelbert. The Mavs were outshot in that game 46-42% from the field, but turned the ball over just six times to 15 giveaways by the 76ers.
The Mavericks have had success in this series recently, taking four of the last five with the Sixers including three in a row in the city of brotherly love. In fact, Dallas won easily here last season 107-94.
While the Mavs are slugging it out with the Lakers, Spurs and Grizzlies to determine who'll secure the final two home court playoff spots for round one of the post season in the West, the 76ers are scrapping just to get into the playoffs in the East (currently sitting tenth overall). Philly's endured a coaching change (Randy Ayers fired, Chris Ford named his interim successor), internal squabbling between Ford and Allen Iverson, a laundry list of injuries, and troublingly inept offense this season. Are the 76ers capable of rising up in this setting and smacking the Mavs? You bet they are. But is it likely? Probably not.
Eric Snow
Philly will start a back court of veteran stabilizer Eric Snow and Allen Iverson, forwards Aaron McKie and Kenny Thomas and athletic center Samuel Dalembert. Off the bench, Derrick Coleman, Zendon Hamilton and Marc Jackson supply the interior punch, while former Maverick Greg Buckner, Kyle Korver, Willie Green and John Salmons present a capable quartet of options at the guard spots.
Iverson's presence on the floor will have the Mavericks on red alert to his every move. Travis Best played 32 solid minutes against him in the earlier encounter between these two teams and could again be called on to stay in front of A.I. defensively, although Steve Nash will likely draw the assignment initially. Aaron McKie is a streaky three point threat that can hurt opposing teams if he's not accounted for. I suspect that Antoine Walker will start against McKie. The Kenny Thomas-Dirk Nowitzki battle at the power forward spot should be interesting. Thomas is incapable of stepping out on the floor to defend Dirk, but his rebounding strength around the basket could challenge Nowitzki physically. Just a hunch, but I think that Don Nelson will go with a bigger body (maybe Danny Fortson) against Dalembert at center to keep him off the boards in the game's early stages.
Allen Iverson
The Mavericks have far more offensive fire power than Philly, but can't afford to put it on cruise control (like they did at home against this team) defensively. Dallas should have success running versus a slower Sixers outfit, if it can control the boards. Rebounding will be key in this game. Philly shoots a low percentage offensively, which means there will be plenty of defensive boards to be had by the Mavs if they're up to the challenge of competing physically with Thomas, Dalembert and Derrick Coleman. If the Mavericks limit second chance opportunities for the 76ers, force Allen Iverson to take a ton of shots to score his points and keep McKie and Kyle Korver relatively quiet from three point range they should be in good shape in this game.
Dallas has been very good playing the second night of back-to-back sequences (posting an 11-5 record in such circumstances this season) and this is a terrific opportunity to continue that trend. Philly's loss of Glenn Robinson to injury really hurts them here as the Mavericks would figure to have too much offensively in this game for the 76ers to deal with without their Big Dog. If the Mavs maintain their intensity and focus for the full 48 minutes they should be off to Indy for Wednesday's clash with the Pacers winners.

RE:Chalupas at Cheesesteaks (Mavs at Philly gameday thread!)
Can I just say that the picture of the cheesesteak looks absolutely disgusting?! I've heard they are really tasty, but the picture turned my stomach a bit. I don't like chalupas at all, but at least the picture looks good. From that alone, I predict a Mavs win. I'll say 114-90. And don't laugh at the basis of my predictions. I am 2nd in one of my NCAA brackets and 3rd in another. My husband is 34 (last) and 9th in the other. I'm not too bad at this predicting thing. For the NCAA brackets, I just went on hunches if I didn't know the teams. I, of course, picked Kansas to win it all since that is Raef's alma mater. (yes, I'm psycho) If they win it all, I pretty much have it in the bag since they are a 4 seed (with Kentucky going down, their road to the final 4 seems a bit easier, though a hungry UAB team could have a say in it!).
Go Mavs!

The Mavs catch another break. Let's hope they don't wait till the 4th quarter to take advantage of that.
Mavs win.

I hope Dirk doesn't have a slow start again....Finley has been great but he can't keep this hot shooting up all year to keep this team from killing themselves.....
this team has been having offensive problems lately......

the mavs will put on an offensive clinic from the time they decide to show up. At what point they decide to show up is anybody's guess.
In the end they get a w, but it might get pretty ugly.

We should remember that although they have Glenn Robinson out for this game, they did not have Kenny Thomas the last time we met them. Kenny is a good player and can hurt the mavs on the boards and inside.

I am feeling a clinic being put on display by Finley. Mavs prevail in the city of brotherly shove...

76ers - 97

Finley will have trouble tonight. The best players the Sixers have are McKie and Snow both solid defenders. Where we need to attack is with Dirk and the Antwins. It would help if someone would control Dalembert and not let Korver shoot uncontested 3s. They are going to attack our interior D..surprise surprise with Thomas, Dalembert and Marc Jackson. Play with some urgency and determination and we win fairly easily...let them get confident and we struggle till the end like in Jersey.

The last time I participated in this, my 20+ point prediction in favor of the Mavs vs. the Hawks left me looking like a complete moron...
So this time, I will stay in the single digit spreads...
Mavs 102
Sixers 95

thats the third time walker has not guarded salmons. It was his man and he just had two open threes and one layup. Walker goes back and turns it over.

Are Nash and Finley being guarded well or just not looking for their shot?
Walker and Najera are no help offensively right now so Dirk will have to carry us it looks like.

RE: Chalupas at Cheesesteaks (Mavs at Philly gameday thread!)
This is worse than the Atlanta game and it's this Zone defense that forces the players to get confused and not be able to guard the perimeter!
Every time they switch they get beat and there is penetration and there is a pick and a roll and a dunk or a kickout for a wide open 3...it's this whoel setup of defense that is wrong! Play zone with Bradley in there!!!
Dirk again leads the team in minutes and the team loses......I say sit dirk for a whole 2nd quarter and other guys will be more focused and will play better....

RE:Chalupas at Cheesesteaks (Mavs at Philly gameday thread!)
As Jerry Jeff would say: I've been down this road once or twice before.
I'm still amazed that people on this board are picking the Mavs to be winners on the road. My only question: why? It's not as if they've done anything all year to show such optimism on the road. They falt out suck on the road.
Amazing how many times we refuse to go to a center for our games. The centers played 30 minutes tonight. Bradley received 8 of those minutes. That is his reward for his stellar game the other night? Please.
There has been only one game that I recall all year that our centers played the entire 48. It was last Sunday against LA. Against LA we held them to under 40% shooting and under 100 points. It is not a coincidence Don that we let Dirk play power forward the entire night, and used our four heads and we played grewat defense. This team will go no where until Nelson realizes that we have to have a center on the floor at all times, and Bradley should get the most minutes out of the center position.
But hey... we're screwed this year. Hope for a playoff exit so Nellie and this team can be blown up.

I'm amazed that they even got 30 minutes...oh, wait...you're including Eddie...aren't you, Bayliss ?
That's sad when you have to count Eddie as a Center.
Instead of responding to the "wake up call", this team rolled over and hit the "snooze" button.
This is just plain sad.

I wasn't able to watch this game, but, judging by the 3 point stats for Philly, either they were just too hot, or our perimeter defense just sucked, or maybe THE ZONE DOESN"T WORK!

I only saw a few highlights on Sportscenter, but Philly was just blowing by the Mavs. Wide open at the 3 point line with no one running out. Or if they did they didn't even put a hand up.
