Folliwell on the post game show dished out some amazing stats about Haywood's ability to always stay out of foul trouble.
Its not the exception its his norm. The guy is smart...and keeps himself out of foul trouble.

This is true. I'm not sure if Haywood is as big of an upgrade over Dampier as some are making him out to be, but the one thing he brings that Damp couldn't do is the ability to stay on the court for 35+ minutes on any given night. And considering what we have behind him at center right now, that's been HUGE.

Haywood is just as good defensively if not better than Damp
and is at least twice as good as offensive player.
That is a huge upgrade in my opinion....because I think Damp is a pretty dang good defensive center.

Kidd goes for 14pts, 13dimes, 7rebs and a steal....and he is almost 37.
Dang.

[Sarcasm]Kidd has declined drastically. Not long ago, he got 4-7 steals a game, but recently he averages an abysmal 0.5 steals. [/Sarcasm]

Were the two decimal places necessary? Couldn't you have just gone with one?
He's been awesome, though. Hands are like 100000000x better than Damp's, late in the shot clock he can pull out a hook shot or two, and he's extremely smart with his fouls. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he hasn't really been in foul trouble for these 6 games, has he? Uses his fouls wisely, regardless.

Such a huge win and without Damp and Butler. You have to wonder just what we could do against LA if we meet in the WCF with those two and healthy lineup?

I'm excited that the Mavs can now actually start a true NBA sized lineup. That extra length on the perimeter is so much better.

As long as injuries don't occur and they remained focused, this team will be the #2 seed by the end of the 2nd week of March...book it

Dirk & Jet were huge. So was Kidd & Haywood.
I really like DeShawn. He's such an upgrade to the usual "poor shooting defensive specialist scrub SGs" we often started in the past.
Stevenson>Ross/Wright/Newman/Buckner/Hassell/Rawle Marshall.
I'd like to see him get 10-20 mpg depending on matchups.
Najera & JJB might kill this team in the playoffs. We just CANNOT rely on either against elite teams. We desperately need a healthy Damp/TT/another PF.
As is, when Dirk/Wood rests...that leaves Najera at PF or Center. Against good teams, that really gets exploited. And JJB is just absolutely terrible at this point. Kidd can't continually play 40+ a night. Roddy is too inexperienced (in part thanks to RC) to see more than 5 MPG in the playoffs. We either need to:
Play Jet at PG with Butler/Stevenson at SG when Kidd rests. Or sign a vet PG. JJB is just not going to cut it.
And we damn well better not see that 3 PG lineup in the playoffs (I know we will though).
Great win for the Jiggaman!

That's my solution come playoff time. In the regular season though, I think Roddy needs to get as much burn as we can afford to give him.

great post.
Stevenson is going to be stout as long as he can keep right with ball. I agree that he is the best version of that type of player we have had in here for a while.
I don't expect to see Eddie or JJB in the playoffs...not much anyway.
I want to point out how happy I think Dirk and Kidd are to have the new guys in here...and how happy they are to be here. This is a happy crew and THAT is great!!!

What needs to happen is from now until the playoffs, Carlisle needs to ditch JJB from the rotation, and start splitting the backup PG minutes between JET and Roddy. See if you can develop Roddy over the next month into at least a semi-reliable backup. If you can't, then be ready to roll with JET at PG.
At this point, JJB accomplishes nothing except stunting the team. It's a waste of resources and time and it's a good way to lose games.

I love how everyone stepped up tonight they treated this like it was precursor to the post season.

The National media LOVES Butler...I think most of the talking heads looked at the trade as a huge move in a positive direction for the Mavs. Not making them a favorite...but at least in the mix.

This. Everyone, media wise, is all about "how Butler helps the Mavs". Yeah he does, but IMO the Haywood addition is far far more important.

BTW, we've been talking about DeShawn a lot, but I don't think anybody has mentioned Marion's defense on Kobe tonight. That was HUGE.
EDIT: Nobody's mentioned it except for Kante's picture of Marion's ass in Kobe's face.

I'm glad that RC made a determined effort to keep Kobe frustrated. Marion looked good out there tonight.

I just checked with the judges and they say Kante's pic speaks a thousand words on the topic.

Absolutely. He was fantastic on Kobe in the second half. What a luxury to be able to throw Marion, Butler and Stevenson, three good defenders, all strong and legit 6'5" or more, to guard the best perimeter players in the league. Also, I thought Kidd did a good job on Artest when he was mismatched in the post.

Depends on what you mean. Do I think the Mavs are gonna win the championship? No. Am I absolutely thrilled with the trade, and the direction the team is headed in? Hell yes.
