I hope US-guys will be noble-minded, because they all like Dirk All in.

Interesting article on ESPN.com about Kaman's father's reaction to him competing for the German national team.
-----------------------------
Half a world away, Kamanhaus is divided.
Actually, LeRoy Kaman would probably take issue with calling his home Kamanhaus. He'd prefer "the Kamans' house."
And if LeRoy Kaman turns on the television in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Monday morning to watch his son Chris play basketball, he'll be cheering against him.
"My dad is not so thrilled," Kaman said. "My mom has always supported me, she's great. My dad is kind of negative about it. He's like: 'You're not German, you're an American citizen.'
"He should be happy," Kaman said of his father, whom he has not spoken to since the Olympic tournament began more than a week ago. "It's his grandparents, so he should be happy about it, but sometimes he focuses on the negative a little bit. I tell him, 'C'mon, it's just basketball. That's the way I look at it.' But my dad was a little negative. I had to get in his face a little bit."

That's kinda of sad. The parents should both support their son no matter what their opinions on it are. It's his dream. I want Germany to lose, but I hope Dirk and Kaman can give a good showing.

I want Dirk to have a monster game...even if he does, sadly that won't be enough. I wonder if Kobe is going to try to guard Dirk since he is touted as guarding the best offensive player on the opposing team.

You can't control what the Dirk do...
(unless you swarm him with 3 players when the rest of his team can't hit the broad side of a barn...)

I figure there will be a ton of full court pressure, and a fair chance Dirk gets a lot of doubles tomorrow. I thought about the zone but Team USA hasn't had to use that this much in the opening round.

I worry about the effect this Olympic failure will have on Dirk’s psyche.

He said all the right things going into it, that he was just happy to have qualified, etc.
But he was awfully pissed after losing to China, and as others have mentioned I think he left the court without shaking anyone's hand, and he definitely wasn't in Germany's huddle at center court.

I don't think he will see this trip into the Olympics as a failure. He definitely would've seen not qualifying for the Olympics as a failure. He's put a lot of time and energy into the national team. I, myself, don't see his outing as a failure. On top of making it to the Olympics, carrying the flag into the Bird's Nest for the Opening Ceremonies, in retrospect, will definitely ease the pain of not making it into the next round. It definitely is a special/rare thing to do, to carry your flag in.
Is he upset, sure...he's a competitor. He can't blame himself for all of the shortcomings for the team. He had every right to be upset after that game vs. China. He knew what was at stake and he did all he could, he just didn't have much help. He realized the next step was just outside of his reach. He was in better spirits today it seemed in the game and he was very appreciative for the moment/big-ness of it all when he checked out of the game for the last time.
He can be upset for a few days, then recharge and get ready to accomplish his next dream. Now, nothing else will be in his way of putting the time and energy into it.

I always get a little nervous when the words "Germany's" and "pissed" are used in same sentence.
Not like Dirk to be anything but an all class guy...

Because we all remember what happened the last time Germany got pissed:

Dirk is gonna need help, guys have figured how to get under his skin and defend him more efficiently. It's gonna take Jho and Kidd playing out of their minds to do anything in the playoffs. I wonder how much faith Dirk has coming into this season.
I am becoming less impressed with Kidd offensively, but more impressed defensively. I don't have AS much faith in Kidds abilities (other than passing) as I used to after watching these games, it would surprise me if he penetrated the lane and probed around this season like he used to and like CP3 and Deron does. Im kinda frustrated I guess. Im trying not to overreact but unless JHO and Kidd step up and someone playing SG plays above expectations, things aren't too hot round here. go mavs

Going to the Olympics and carrying the flag for your country is a one time experience that he'll never forget. The being said, I'm pretty sure he see's the tournament as a failure. It's not just that they didn't advance; it's that they played terrible. They were embarrassed every time they played a good team and shot about 30% in the game that would have sent them to the medal round. Luckily for them China was just as bad.

I agree...but who can take the blame and say, "I didn't make my teammates shoot better." etc, etc. That isn't realistic at all. Now if they lost their games and you take away Dirk's production as well...THEN I can see him being devastated. Kaman was involved here and there in the games, but no one else was really "there" for Germany. He had to know what he was working with and going up against. Sure, he'll be optimistic and hope stuff can fall into place, but he should know as well that if they don't that they are in major trouble.
I guess it's just the perspective that needs to be questioned when he looks at it as a whole. I still think it's alright for him to be upset about it, but he can still take away a ton of positives from the whole experience. I still wouldn't say it was a failure. He knew they were fortunate just to qualify.
