I like having Powell here (but I?d also trade him for an upgrade). I think the issue isn?t Powell. It?s Cuban, Donnie, and Nico. Having Powell on the roster is good. Having such a trash roster that he is often our only option? That?s in Cuban and Nico.

You make a good point. Powell can be a useful bottom of the roster player. It?s not his fault that the owner and GM have so poorly constructed a team that relies on a guy like Powell to be more than he is capable.

Mavs 2-7 and headed to:
Resurgent Suns
Jazz
Pelicans
Warriors
Jazz
Clippers
Kings
Kings
Other than Pistons Monday we won?t play a legitimately bad team until February 23
Can?t suck against the bad teams. Now we?re about to get tossed around by good teams. Fully expect us to go 3-8 or 2-9 over the next 11

Mavs 2-7 and have fallen from 4th to 7th with a brutal run of 11 games about to begin against 10 playoff teams
Mavs now just 1 game away from 12th place and being out of the play-in

We're 25-24 we still have 19 games against teams that are .500 or better, 14 games against teams below .500, but those include Golden State twice (currently 24-25), Indiana twice (24-25) and Minnesota (24-25). So a huge majority of our remaining games are going to be against teams with either a similar record than us or better.

Tank and become sellers. Rebuild around Luka, Green, and Wood. You might even get a high enough pick to land a real star via draft or trade. Cuban doesn?t have the balls to do it, but it?s what we actually need.

He won't do it because people buy tickets. His success is based on sellouts and entertaining casuals who aren't that knowledgeable about the game. Those who go to a game or 2 a year and don't follow Mavs super closely.

I mean how long does the 2-7 record have to last before people stop buying tickets without the tank?

Y'all act like the tickets aren't already largely sold. Mavs operate much like the Cowboys in that corporate sales dominate. Just peep the stands at how many lower-level seats (usually 2-4 in a row) are empty. Companies don't mind the expense in the end, and Cuban still gets to claim sellouts despite the actual attendance being much lower.
Also, TV deals and shared revenues, fans in the stands don't make as much of an impact.

If they are already sold out then there is no argument not to tank and retool for next year.

No, you're right, company tax write offs pay for a lot of tickets. BUT there are quite a few blue seats available on weekday games.
I think people will show up as long as Luka is here, but for the little that it's worth, I'm not buying until changes are made (had season tickets for 13 straight seasons at one point). I do pay 20 a month for Bally. Re-thinking that one as well...

I hear ya, but in the end, your contribution will likely only affect Bally, which is still a noble cause!
I do think the public outcry and rumor mill will nudge Cuban and FO to make a move. This isn't like last year, the Mavs are set up for a slate of games that will be a sludge fest. The likely results will push them even further to make a move. We just have to hope it's the right one...

Kenneth Faried looking to make it back to the NBA. Excellent rebounder who could help in that area. For a team that plays DFS a ton at the 4 and only really has McGee as a viable big man backup, it makes some sense.
Rumors of a Will Barton buyout, too. Would be a solid addition if only to fill some spots after a big trade?

I've always like Faried. His rebounding would definitely help which is more sad than anything.
I'd even take Dwight Howard. That's how bad the center position currently is.

My assumption is that we make the play-in.
Teams 7, 8, 9, 10 make it to the play-in, 5 more teams that won't. I'm just going to assume Spurs or Rockets don't make a miracle comeback so 13 teams going for 10 spots, but that still leaves 3 that won't make it.
Denver (top 6)
Memphis (top 6)
Sacramento (currently 3rd, could see them flaming out or staying, probably at worst play in)
New Orleans (top 6)
La Clippers (top 6)
then there's
us (currently 6th)
Phoenix
Minnesota
Golden State
Utah
Outside looking in:
OKC
Lakers
Portland
I'll just guess now that OKC and Portland don't make the play-in, so it then comes down to us or Lakers hoping one of the other teams get eliminated? Or maybe both of us make it. Endless possibilities, but we do have a pretty tough schedule. I calculated that 23 of our remaining 32 games are against teams with similar or better records than us.

The $1.8M salary of Tyrell Terry has been removed from the Dallas Mavericks team salary, league sources tell ESPN.
Dallas applied for a career ending injury exclusion for Terry and were approved by the NBA.
The Mavericks projected tax bill decreases from $60.4M to $53.7M.

I doubt Noel will be waived. He wasn't traded to a team looking to shed his contract and it's fully guaranteed.
This summer he can become a UFA if the Pistons reject his team option.
They pay him for the next few months either way. Unless the Pistons really want his roster spot, there's not a lot of reason to believe he will be available.

Mike Curtis: #Pistons center Nerlens Noel is out for tonight?s game against the #Spurs. The injury report says he?s not with the team. 4 hours ago ? via Twitter MikeACurtis2
Noel couod very well just be injured, but the fact that he isn?t with the team leaves the door open that it?s possible?

Maxi returning tonight. Hope they ease him back with like 8-10 minutes off the bench. He may not be our white knight and savior, but damn it if he's close to our only hope of shoring up this defense and making an impact.
