Guessing Garrett's WS appearance wasn't a leisure trip, he went on a recruiting trip to get Houck on board.

@SlaterNFL: Cowboys DL David Irving suffered an ankle injury during practice today per sources informed. Tough year for Irving following off the field issues and suspension to start the year
@SlaterNFL: Irving was carted off the field.

Jerry said he sees no circumstance to make coaching changes during the season. And he said Dak will be extended.
Honestly I hate myself for not being able to stop watching this team.

Troy Aikman calls for big changes to Cowboys organization
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...plete-overhaul
Quote:
"I've heard Jerry say, 'OK, look, we're going to do it differently. I'm going to do it differently.' ... But it's the same. Nothing changes," Aikman said. "And that to me is the bigger issue. ... Yes, coaching is important, personnel, all those things are important, but how are you going about evaluating how you're going about running the organization?"

I listened to Jerry on the radio this morning and couldn't tell if it was someone impersonating him or not. It also sounded prerecorded. That's the state of his ownership these days. It's just all so robotic...like the way Garrett coaches.
Unfortunately, Jerry isn't going to change as the GM. So the next best thing is firing Garrett.

Man he made a great play on that third down beating two blockers to get the guy. He's looking like the real deal and good thing with ever injured Sean Lee out again. 13 tackles tonight.

Man, the Cowboys are either one of the best teams in the league or one of the worst, nothing in between... Problem is, you never know which one you're going to get.

They are a .500 team. That's pretty much all they've ever been under Garrett unless he's gifted with an easy schedule due to prior year meltdown. This year they will finish around 8-8 and will hang their hats on the year-to-year improvement after missing the playoffs yet again. SMH

And the worst part is even if we manage to win this game I'm pretty sure we win at the cost of JG 100% keeping his job. I was going to say it was 50/50 but if they beat a 10 win team that nobody gave them a chance at then he's a lock for next year.

That awful punt penalty is one of the lowest iq things ive seen. That offisides was super ticky tack. He needs to not be so close but I literally see guys line up like that every game never called unless their helmet is over the ball and then some really.

Defense was pretty fantastic, offense controlled the clock. Nothing splashy, but it was enough to take down the Saints.

Amazing game by the defense. I am looking forward to hopefully 6-8 years of Vanderstud + Jaylon anchoring this defense. Dlaw too but those twin backers are amazing.

Some bad calls both ways... jaylon gonna get flagged for helmet to helmet one of these days. They missed Beasley’s knee down but missed s pretty flagrant face mask on dak and missed the offensive PI on the saints TD.
Happy for the win but man our O lacks consistency and any sense of a killer instinct. Dak needs to make more plays with his legs and he still has terrible pocket presence at times

Yeah that was a killer... beautiful route and overthrown smh
I don’t think dak needs to go all Lamar Jackson but they need to take advantage of his running more to keep defenses honest

I actually give him some slack on the roughing the punter penalty. He was hit low and had no balance whatsoever. I don't know that he was in enough control after the shot to the lower legs to change direction...

Yea, and in my opinion, a big ass DE doesn't need to be the guy rushing for the block. Let that be a smaller nickel DB or safety, someone a little more nimble that can either avoid the cut block or recover from it.

Big win by the Eagles last night. Cowboys in the driver seat for the division. Take care of business Sunday and it's all but won. Eagles have the much harder schedule to finish out, and the Redskins are toast with butt fumble running the show.
Need to get some health injection from the long rest. Smith sounds like he will be back. Lee sounds like he has a shot to play. Would love to hear something positive on Irving this week regarding availability going forward.

Actually, it is won with any kind of Eagles loss or Cowboys win the next 3 weeks. The Cowboys have the tiebreaker over the Eagles. That's not including the Redskins..but they're down to their 3rd/4th QB and are dead in the water...

Yep. The quoted was from right after Eagles > Redskins. But in hindsight, with how bad the Skins looked against the Giants...
Eagles will be headed to LA this week to face what should be a pissed off Rams team. They should be toast.

Hate to see the Eagles squeak in, but hope the Bears shut them down.
Seahawks will be tough, but I think the extra rest for the Boys can put them over the top. Lots and lots of Zeke...

Cowboys value Dak Prescott, but at what price?
http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas-cowb...-at-what-price
Quote:
One NFL executive said, “Dak is great for Dallas while he's cheap, but at $25 million, he might be a drain on their resources because of how limited he is.”
The executive went on to say that the Cowboys should consider trading Prescott if the price is too high.
“If I were Dallas, I would trade him if he didn't want to sign an extension in that $15 (million to) $18 million range, and I'd sign one of the many QBs on the market this offseason,” he said. “If they don't like the trade market for Dak, maybe that tells them what the free-agent market will be like."

Paying him 25m a year would be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen this team do and that's saying something.

Let's wait and see how these playoffs go first. He wins one, possibly two or more, then I think you have to get him an extension.
However, you'd hope the AAV is less than $20mm. That was a great article hitting all the angles. Going to be interesting.
There's also been a couple rumors that Garrett had more to do with the offensive game plan last week. I still maintain that Linehan is holding this offense back and I'd like to see a fresh face as OC next year.
Speaking of coordinator, I have a sneaky feeling the Cowboys will make Kris Richard the full-time DC. I think this comes by way of a Marinelli retirement, as he's been good enough to keep his job. It won't come as a force-out. Perhaps a co-DC promotion as DC in-waiting. Something, since Richard will be taking more interviews this off-season and I don't want to lose him.

It looks like MIA, NYJ, and TB are all looking to interview Kris Richard for a head coaching job... You might have to replace Garrett with him if you want to keep him.

The problem with giving Dak 25 million is that you have many other guys to pay. You have Byron Jones who's developed into a very good corner. You have a game changing DE to sign. You have a WR that broke enough tackles to make Dak look good in some games in which he probably wouldn't have otherwise looked good. You have Zeke who is significantly more important to the offense. If you sign Dak, you can't sign them all. I think Dak is a very average starting QB. No, he's not one of the worst but he's definitely not one of the top QB's in the NFL. So how much do you pay a guy like that? The going rate is north of 20 million which is scary for a guy that has accuracy issues.

He's been a DC before, so it was surprising to me that the Cowboys were able to hire him as the DB coach and quickly named him passing game coordinator. That's why I think there is a bigger picture, under the table type deal with Richard to be the DC next season with a Marinelli retirement. Just a gut feel as Marinelli will be 70 by next season.
I'd peg the same type of agreement to Will McClay, as that's another guy I thought would see some serious GM interest (he has had some, but turned down interviews).
Edit: would LOVE to see both back, but understand the nature of the business and would root for their success elsewhere (outside of the division, of course)
